Maclay Finals 2021

Why yes, announcing team, adults do enjoy riding in the equitation classes too. We’re not dead once we turn 18, you know!

Those under 18 standing at the in-gate preparing to go in today: gals and guys, when you think you have enough in your opening canter, kick twice more. Good luck.

That bay horse with Christian Dominguez sure is a scopey, rangy fellow.

Is anyone else having trouble with the NHS website? It’s not loading at all for me…maybe too many people on the stream?

It looks like it should be the logo for a line of feminine products.

So far the course is winning. The horses are very overwhelmed in this ring and that’s making it rough.

Yes.

That is exactly what it looks like.

Aesthetically, I do really like the oxer with a white rail in front, curved wings, and a whole line of mums in the center. And the rolltop is beautiful, too.

I love that Christopher Coberley’s horse shows under the name Brownie.

I agree the course is winning, but I’m seeing the riders come in with their heads up spooking, too. I’m not seeing a lot of leg on, do some sympathetic flatwork in your opening, okay pony I’ve got you let’s get on along to the first fence as I would like. It’s not backwards, it’s just conservatively accepting that the horse is spooky rather than doing something about it.

Is anyone else’s feed really choppy? I’m watching full screen with the CMH free trial. Have tried on a couple of different devices. Watched some other classes during the week and didn’t have this problem.

I swear, Skylar Wireman makes distances magically appear out of thin air.

I agree and it seems like she has a different horse in every final yet does a great job on each one.

I think the way riders choose to enter the ring is really going to matter today. The ones who can manage their nerves, be patient with their opening circle and really set their horse up to fence 1 are probably going to have a better day.

If they panic and rush to get started… the wheels sort of come off before they even get on course. Riders and horses both sort of look wide eyed the whole way around.

20 have gone go so far - favorites are:
Audrey Schulz, Christian domingueZ, Campbell hudkins, Stella buckingham and Skylar wireman

Just an FYI for those looking for the stream on cmh, it’s the live now Longines jumping final link with a grand prix picture. Labeled wrong.

I appreciate a live stream but CMH is such a bad website. Impossible to search and so poorly laid out. Similar to H&C.

Man, shame for Grace Rabb. I really liked that horse watching him trot in. I can’t tell if she’s petite or if he’s just a beast. Huge barrel on that horse.

She does. She has excellent control over her track. I’m rooting for her to win one of these.

Having said that, I thought she was a little off her game today. She made that round happen, but you could see it happening. She establishes her track early, and over this course I thought that some of that came at the detriment of her track to the fence she was actually jumping- little shifts left to right at take-off. I don’t expect it to take her out of contention, but as she matures as a rider I look forward to seeing how she preserves that excellent ability to manage line while increasing the subtlety.

Beautiful round from Mimi Gochman!

I like Mimi Gochman so much better on this horse and Heroy than on Kaskade.

What an absolute bummer for the girl on this white horse who is simply not having any interest in this party today. Horsemanlike move on her part to go in, canter a couple loops, and call it a day. That wasn’t going to go well. Excellent presence of mind shown there.

I had the same thought. Props to her!!

Agreed - that had to be devastating to make it to today and have your horse say “nope” before you even get to fence 1. She handled that with poise and made a wise choice to try again another day.

Agree. I’m done with both. Even the GP last night kept erroring out!

I’m using the CMH app on my tv and having no issues.

I think the best rides today are going to really use track to their advantage. Mimi has such a good feel for the horse.
