Maclay Finals

The judges for these big equitation classes provide a list a couple of times during the class so riders will know if they are still in contention to come back for the next phase of the class. In this case, the next phase is tomorrow, so the riders who know they are done could head home if they choose.

My feed went blank. Have they announced the final standby yet?

For those brave souls who watched from the beginning, how did the girl from Oregon do? The one profiled in the Chronicle as creatively earning her way here? I think she was 42-ish?

Gosh, is Grady Lyman the only West Coaster to make day 2? I was hoping they would keep Breanna on the list, her horse is fantastic.

Do you mean Fallon O’Connell? She was one of the featured COTH riders. She rode well but her horse was very sticky and balky in spots. She went towards the end of the order.

Is there someone else you were wondering about? There was a girl from PNW that rode in the Medal a few weeks ago. I may have missed her if she rode in the Maclay as well.

Thanks AndNirina and MHM, that’s pretty much what I thought.

Sophie Lang is the girl from Oregon whose barn fundraised to get her and her horse there. She is a barnmate of @541hunter Here is what the COTH blog had to say about her round:

“Sophie Lang has been blogging for the Chronicle! Her horse is a bit backed off, but she gets him going. She’s weak to a few fences and hangs up over the triple bar a bit, but finishes well.”

I think getting around at your first big final is a pretty solid accomplishment. I really feel for the ones who don’t make it past the first few fences.

Thanks for the final standby! I did pay my $5 then of course it cut out several times during people I wanted to see. But enough about me! Is that final standby also the final ranking?

The flat phase is scheduled to start at 1:00 PM on Sunday. It will be interesting to see what the judges ask them to do on the flat, especially considering Bernie’s dressage background.

Don’t forget to turn your your clocks back tonight. We could all use the extra hour of sleep after the early start this morning!

I would think so. The top few had the best trips today.

There’s plenty of field hockey, motorcross, and rodeo on cable this morning btw. Signals all strong.

Emma Crosbie is west coast. She rides with the trainer my D rode with growing up.

Oh that’s right… I totally overlooked Emma Crosbie. Need more coffee from this morning apparently.

Is anyone surprised not to see Taylor SJ ranked higher?

No, it wasn’t flawless. Her horse spooked once maybe even twice. I bet she moves up in the standing tomorrow. She is absolutely amazing. If that girl doesn’t go professsional, it will be a crime with all that talent.

I think her eq is so absolutely flawless on the flat (to me at least), so I’m hoping she moves up high enough for another round and test! She will be able to shine if that’s the case. I also hope Madison G stays up there. I thought she got totally screwed at Medal Finals.

Towards the end he seemed all salty. He started just saying, “Nope.” That was cracking me up.

I noticed the same thing. But he had been sitting there for quite a while by that time.

For those who missed the live feed this morning, this article includes videos of the top three rounds on the standby at this point.
