Considering the number of times this has happened without repercussion, I’m not sure it’s actually entirely accurate to say she’s worried about being DQed.

Fair enough, but she is a vendor to the eventing community, so I still think it’s a positive for her to put it out there. No, it’s certainly not as if the COTH or Eventing Nation stuck there necks out and actually asked some hard questions for once.

There is an article in horse and hound now about it. On eventing UK Facebook people are calling for her to be banned for life or thrown in jail! Annnnnnd everyone here in the US think people here are overreacting for contacting her sponsors and wanting a change in the blood rule. :winkgrin:

If you look a little closer, the person who wrote the post is a Dapple Bay ambassador. Yes, way to go Dapple Bay for putting it out there under their aegis especially since they are eventing focused. And I can’t resist putting this in because it is making me giggle - I bought a “Recycle Racehorses” t-shirt from them about 4 years ago in a coral-red-orangey color, and it still bleeds every time I wash it. For this reason, I don’t wear it very often. :lol:

I was trying to find a youtube video of the 2016 crash to refresh my memory and compare it to Elisa’s and shock of all shocks, I had no luck. Hopefully someone else knows where to look but I have a funny feeling it got poofed…

Just for a bit of levity in an otherwise serious thread…I have to say, having successfully evented two Appaloosas and been informed by the third that he preferred being a hunter…,Appaloosas do NOT have esteem issues. They tend to pity the poor horses that lack spots.
As for ML - I haven’t evented since the late 80s. I retired my first good eventer in '79, the second in '88 when I, as an ammy, got intimidated by the increasing technicality of courses at Prelim and above (then I got the one that didn’t like eventing, and you rarely change change an Appy’s opinion). But “back then” I did not see the type of HARDWARE that I see on ML’s horses. I saw Dr. Bristols, Rubber Tom Thumb Pelhams, double-rein gags with smooth mouths - but not these long-shanked curb bits used with martingales. It hurts me just to LOOK at them. My best event horse was nearly 17 hands and even when fit was about 1,450 pounds of big boned Appy, and while he may have been lazy in dressage, he LOVED to jump. The first time I evented him, my trainer had me use a double rein gag snaffe with a smooth mouth, feeling that if he got tired, there was no way I would be able to keep him “up” in front, between his size and his very long back. Well, we learned the further he galloped, the higher he galloped. After that I used a Dr. Bristol, no martingaleon X/C and a French link regular snaffle for everything else. I look at ML’s Scandalous, and while she may be a WB, she certainly looks a modern type with a lot of TB,. Does a horse like that REALLY need all that hardware in its mouth? No wonder she gets cuts. Sigh. Well, I’m just a nobody who fools around with being a DQ these days (still with Appies), so who am I compared to the Big Names in eventing, but I don’t read of stuff like this happening with Boyd Martin, Phil Dutton, Buck Davidson, Kim Severson, et al.

Well, the second half of the story will have to wait until we retain counsel. We got the expected ugly cease and desist letter today, both my 19yo daughter and I. In case you wondered if what I shared was legitimate, the cease and desist doesn’t accuse us of lying only of damaging her interests.
I may be starting a go fund me for the legal fees (joking…I think) but they want to take it to the courts so that is where it shall go. Sadly, this forum has already moved past my posts, and it would have likely died off already except that they chose to threaten us. Yes, actually threaten us. The letter is all full of overblown threats and some bizarre revision of history they are using to try and scare us into silence (ie…you should know if we go to trial this will be a matter of public record…) We knew they would likely respond, but there’s nothing of value they can take from a dying woman so…
I don’t back down when someone with money thinks that means those without money should have to sit down and shut up about the truth.
In any case, for the rest of you, part of the cease and desist letter accused me of contacting Marilyn’s sponsors in order to harm that relationship (threatened us with “tortious interference”) which I’ve absolutely not ever done. So they are trying to identify people here who have actually pressured her sponsors to drop her so they can threaten to file suit. If you’ve been part of that crowd, consider yourself warned.
Because I need my family attorney to refer me to a proper attorney for this kind of matter, I won’t be sharing more for a few days. However nothing I have said is untrue, nothing my child has said is untrue, and so their threats mean nothing to me. It’s not illegal to share actual factual occurrences, only to lie in an effort to maliciously damage someone’s income or reputation.
Thank you to all of you who have messaged me with support and encouragement. I have passed your supporting words on to my daughter and she is grateful also.
