Marilyn Little's horse bleeds yet again. Red rag to a groom.

I hope this is true. Since the organizations clearly don’t give a damn about horse welfare of grass root opinion, it’s good to know that companies are still listening and hopefully can use their purse power to get some changes made.

I could probably find this if I tried, but Land Rover would be dropping it’s sponsorship of what? Something WEG specific, the Kentucky 4*, or…?

Can’t imagine this could be true. With it this close, wouldn’t there be some sort of breach of contract? With so much money on the line? I have no idea, just wondering.

I think it meant Kentucky? or are they a WEG sponsor?

I think a brand can remove itself from contract if it feels the contract is not in its best interest for its image. Just a guess.

JER, Thanks for explaining about the BHS being a non profit. All of my original Pony Club manuals were put out by the BHS. I own “The Instructors Handbook”, which is also put out by the BHS. I also have the BHS “Manual of Horsemanship.” Back in the old days, passing the BHSAI exam was the gold standard for instructing, because we did not have anything like it in the USA. Yes. I am as old as dirt. So, if the BHS speaks out, then I respect what they say.

I really hope that the PTB are listening and keep ML off of the WEG team. I see a slim to none chance of that happening, because of with whom she has such close connections. I would love to be wrong about that!

Land Rover is the main sponsor of the US high performance eventing team (or whatever they’re calling the USET now), they have been for quite a few years, long before the title takeover of Rolex.

This is what I found on the Land Rover site. I don’t see anything about LR being a current year sponsor of WEG. I know the Great Meadow event usually has Land Rover in it’s title.

They seem to be the official vehicle of eventing :uhoh:

Wouldn’t it be ironic - they drop out and she’s driving the Land Rover for the next year.

She’s not. OT is.

Yes, I just had some clarification.

They are threatening to drop their support of the HP team. Not sure how much $$$ they supply but I can imagine it isn’t a little amount.

THAT is some serious action. I for one am happy that Land Rover is a company with such moral regard.

That would be some serious action. Gives me a little hope and makes me wonder how it will all play out. Sounds like sponsor $ vs the insider clique.

Is it publicly announced who the WEG selectors are?

Land Rover is historically British, though now owned by Tata Motors. The British as well as many in Europe think of Land Rover synonymously with horse sport. Frankly, the opinion of the ML debacle is WAY worse over there. The reactions make this entire thread look absolutely blase.

Its simple marketing damage control over moral standards.

yes you are probably right.

Can I just say, that for someone who has so much money backing them and is so incredibly worried about their public image, that is a terrible website! It looks like something I put together on geocities when I was 11

Do you seriously have such rose-colored glasses that you think the sport was better for the horses 10, 20 or 40 years ago? I’ll happily pull out videos and photos and that will remind everyone just how ghastly eventing used to be for the horses.

Yes, in Show Jumping when they went from just the selectors to a mandatory Trial system which has since been modified. That’s was, like, 20 years ago. And they got sued. Somebody with a better memory can fill in the details.

And many sponsorships in major sports have an escape clause for conduct of the sponsored athlete or event creating a negative perception of the product. Depends on the contract wording. Or the skill of their lawyers.

I’m not so sure I would go as far as saying it was “ghastly”. But I agree with your comment by and large. That being said IMO the pendulum as swung too far to the other side. This thread is a good example. IMO “social media” gives any Tom, Dick or Harry regardless of their “expertise” a soap box to stand on. IMO because of this, “social media” can and does more harm then good. There’s the real world and then there’s La La Land.

To each their own…

Do you think no bloody mouths in FEI sport is too far?

I have to ask because I believe it was you who defended Phillip Dutton hawking a calming agent specifically for use in competition (expressly forbidden by USEF) because you know him and he’s a nice guy, are you similarly defending ML ie bloody mouths in eventing because you personally like her? Because that’s such a poor reason.

Or do you really think no bleeding mouths is, as you have asserted, “lalaland”?

thank you.

I wonder what the mother and father of little horse mad susie/johnie think about their kid wishing with all their might to be just like Bloody Mari one day?

maybe The Powers That Be are relying on a full blown political scandal/impeachment to be going on at the same time as WEG - they know summin that we don’t? - so a few equine bloody-mouths will just be a total non event and not worth the main stream medias time. . .?

seems its not just the swamp in DC that needs a jolly good draining.

a while back on this thread someone suggested thinking up a Hashtag similar to the #metoo movement.
it needs to be simple, not too wordy or lettery - howz about; #nomorebloodymouths!
simple and to the point.

#nomorebloodymouths!
