It sounds like in some cases the sponsors “stopped supporting” without clearly withdrawing their sponsorship, so it’s quite possible that the ML team isn’t clear themselves which sponsors remain and to avoid anymore public disclosures of “oh well we really stopped giving her anything after the fifth of so bloody mouth but we just didn’t say anything because we’re afraid of her family” they have likely pulled that page until they know themselves what sponsors she has left.
email from the FEI this morning:
“You will be pleased to know that the FEI Eventing Committee is currently working on proposals to strengthen the Eventing rules regarding blood on the horse and a redefinition of the whip action allowed during competition with the express purpose of providing clarity for athletes, officials and everyone who follows the sport.”
I’ll be less cynical and say that perhaps ML doesn’t have a round the clock web designer, and with several sponsors no longer being affiliated it was easier just to break the link rather than have some non tech savvy person try to remove all references to certain sponsors
It was up. It has recently been removed from what I understand.
I think it works for all at this point. The sponsors probably do not want to be listed there anymore than ML wanted people contacting her sponsors.
Obviously we (general COTH member) will never know the real reason why the sponsor list is not showing right now. I, like all the others here, am just guessing.
So when do we start taking bets as to whether ML gets named to the WEG team? Does anybody think USEA will have the guts to not put her on there?
I certainly hope that she does not. Unfortunately if they are using objective criteria, then her chances look good.
Nope. I think she will be on there. Sadly, although I would love to be wrong.
COTH needs a “love” button!
Related to sponsorship, I’m sure Rolex is congratulating themselves right now and land rover is kicking themselves. What a mess.
JER, Off topic a bit. Where did you hear that the BHS is a charity? When I studied for and was one of four, out of eleven, who took and passed the British Horse Society Assistant Instructors (BHSAI) exam, it was the equivalent to the “A” Pony Club exam. A much more difficult one to pass is the British Horse Society Instructor (BHSI) exam. It is similar to the ICP program here. I do not believe that it is a charity organization at all?
From their website:
"
- The British Horse Society is the UK's largest and most influential equestrian charity"
Yes but that isn’t their whole purpose, they just also happen to have a charity
[h=3]The British Horse Society – fulfilling your passion for horses[/h]
We want a world where every horse is properly protected and cared for and we want to ensure horse owners and riders get more from their relationship with horses.
We represent the interests of the 3.5 million people in the UK who ride or who drive horse-drawn vehicles. With over 95,000 core BHS members, 34,000 members of affiliated Riding Clubs and the members of Affiliated Bridleways Associations, we have a powerful voice with Government.
As the foremost and most influential equestrian charity in the UK we can bring to the fore the full scope of our charitable objectives in education, welfare, access and safety.
We work tirelessly for every horse, rider and carriage driver, focusing on horse welfare, horse and rider safety, access and rights of way, qualifications and careers, and working with the proprietors of riding schools, livery yards and trekking centres to maintain the highest standards. We also work in partnership with many other organisations, not least the British Equestrian Federation, to promote the interests of all those who participate in equestrian activities.
You can use this section to find out more about The British Horse Society, its mission and vision, its governance, structure and awards.
Find out what we achieved last year, to see how you can help us to build on that and achieve so much more by joining as a member, donating or volunteering in your region.
basically everything horse falls under their scope in one way or another.
They don’t happen to have a charity, they are a charity. They are also far from the only charity that offers education and community outreach.
‘Charity’ in this case is the legal status for the organization. It’s like what we’d call a non-profit in the US.
I do think she was snooty and always has a bad attitude. Re-watching this, with way more coffee in my system, does change my first opinion a bit. (Not about her bad attitude though)
Oh man, you know she will.
Yes and when she comes off Cross Country with a bloody mouth, then what?
Of all the awesome riders out there to represent this sport for America, and we have this?
This sport is so far removed from what it once was.
The USEA is probably worried that she would sue if she was not on the team. I believe it has happened before. I don’t know if the coach or chef d’ equipe can insist on a properly fitting noseband.
Ok so I just had some interesting intel dropped on me.
From a very reliable source; there are rumors going around that if ML gets named to the WEG team that Land Rover is going to pull its sponsorship because of all the bad press around her.
No worries – Intrepid Internationl will step up ;)…
