Massage/Percussion Gun

Has anyone used a massage gun for their horses as part of their warm up or cool down routine?

I’m considering purchasing one for jumping/showing to help speed muscle recovery.

My son just introduced me to these via his college physical training program. Having used it on myself now and seeing how he uses it for recovery, I am curious about using it on a horse too, because it feels sooooo good. However, it can be pretty uncomfortable if you get the wrong spot, and it is a strange feeling and louder than most clippers. I am not sure how my horse would react to using one, and he is pretty chill about new things.

I have used mine many times on my horse and he enjoys it immensely!

Here is a link to my blog post showing which one I use, and using it on my guy:

I am going to resurrect this thread, I am hoping that since this was posted over a year ago, there are more people with experience on these. @HJdaydream i looked at your blog and it looks like yours is cordless? How does the charge hold up? Are you still as happy with it over a year later?

I had an add for the Hyperice- Hypervolt unit pop up on my facebook page with an ad for using it on a horse. I know when my Chiro uses one on me, I LOVE it. Are the ones that the average person can buy as strong as what a medical professional would use? As awesome as it is, I could also see it not going so well in the hands of someone who doesn’t know what they are doing.

After a quick google search, the most popular ones that come up are the Equissager and the Thumper Equine Pro, but there are many more, all at various price points. Ideally if it is something I purchase, I would want something I can use both for myself and my horse.

I just bought one of these - the Flyby F2PRO on amazon. Seems to work well for the horse and I, and for hubby who is a cyclist. It has 6 settings, and so far I use it on #2 and horse seems to like #3, so we are far from reaching its max.

I did a ton of research and tried to find something with decent specs at a reasonable price in case we hated it.

@Nova2000 thanks for bringing this back from the dead! Hysterically I saw the title and thought “oh yea I want to read that” just to realize I was the OP ha

I also got targeted recently with the Hypervolt ad, which I did click on just to see what the price was… So I’m glad this thread popped up with cheaper alternatives

Hypervolt and Theragun both had rockin black friday sales last year–I’d expect the same this year! If anyone is interested in either for you or your horse, you might want to wait a little while

I picked up the Theragun last year, and it’s amazing, seriously. I also have the purewave massage thing mentioned in the blog post above and there is really NO comparison.

Ok, so I did a thing… I ordered the Thumper Mini Pro. I asked if they had a promo, they said I had just missed the Labor Day sale, but they would be having another one for Black Friday. I asked nicely if there was any way they would honor the Labor Day sale, they said no, but offered me a 10% discount. So I went ahead and ordered because I have ants in my pants to try it on me first

I liked this option because it has a cord, as opposed to the others that are rechargeable. I tend not to have the best luck with keeping things charged. Will update after it arrives!

I found mine on Amazon it was around $80. Great deal on a cordless unit made by Bodybay.

I have the Thumper and my horses LOVE it.

Which model??

Which model Theragun are you using? This definitely seems like something my mare would love.

I have the G3Pro. The Pro in the current line up would be similar

Thank you! I’m not usually a Black Friday kind of person but maybe I will have to keep an eye on it this year

Mine’s about 10 years old, but it looks quite like the Thumper Sport model.

I’m also not a black friday person! But the deals are online now, no early morning wake up and fighting lines or crowds required

I watch slickdeals.net in November, for the stuff I need/want. Then plan purchases either on black Friday or cyber Monday or whenever the dealz become available around that time.

IIRC, the theragun was $200 off, no sales tax!!

My massage therapist used one on me and like a true horseperson I immediately thought “my horse needs this.” After getting the approval it by my vet/acupuncturist, I got a cheap-o knockoff from amazon for $70 - VWIK Massage Gun. I just keep the charger in the tack room, and use it on my horse post ride, before I do his stretches. I like how there are multiple attachments so I can put a harder or softer head on. Be careful to just focus on the large muscle groups and watch your horse for feedback. I do it when he is loose in his stall so he can shift around and let me know what area needs more work. It does make a bit of a high-pitched whine, but I’m sure better brands are quieter. My horse got used to it in like 30 seconds, and by the second day I used it, he was really leaning into it, licking and yawning.

This is kinda funny, because I just saw the Hypervolt ad with a horse, and jumped on here to see what up lol. I’ve heard rumors of Amazon Prime Day sometime in October… may be some good deals closer than Black Friday.
