I have a chirogun, originally bought one for me, then bought another for the horse. He loves it!
This thread reminded me I bought a percussion massager for me and Xander back in April… But then I kept forgetting to bring it to the barn… Until yesterday. Xander gives it a 5 out of 5 stars amazon review.
I used the round foam head for most of the massage on the highest setting, them switched to this attachment for a few places.
I’ve been thinking about one too and waiting to see what Prime day sales look like is a great thought.
Throwing another brand in the mix- we just got an Oprove. Amazon does great deals on them and we got it on Prime day. I chose this brand because it’s Max run time is 10 mins, not 5 like some brands and it’s whisper quiet. Currently my horse and my husband are fighting over who gets to use it more so I may pick another up for Black Friday!!
I know this thread is a few years old. I just upgraded to my 4th percussion gun and it is hands down better than all of them put together. I have been using it for 1 week now and not only does my wife steal it from me, our horse gets excited when we open the case. He rubs into it when we massage him where the other 3 didn’t have much of a reaction. 2 of them were $100-$200 from Amazon which felt cheap and bulky (one burned up after 4 days, reason for buying the other cheap brand) the 3rd was the Hypervolt from Hyperice at Dick’s Sporting Goods $350 which had low battery time and felt hot after 10 minutes. The one that sweeps them all away is the Power-Pro by Medi-Vibe $400 after experiencing several brands, this one has more power, it’s very quiet, smother to operate and the battery seems to last forever since im still at 40% after a week of use. Maybe this will help someone who is looking for a brand that holds its own. Don’t tell yourself a $100 brand can stand up to a quality one.
I saw this thread a couple of months ago and it got me thinking about getting something that I could use both on myself and my horse. I found a company called Lifepro that offers a lifetime warranty , so I purchased the Sonic X percussion massage gun from them for $149. They have a couple of different models but I chose this one because it is quiet, it has a 10-minute running time, and it has a couple of different places where you can hold it with two hands. I find this gives me more control if I’m working on my back or using it over large horse muscles. So far I’m really happy with it. It does a particularly good job on my arthritic neck.
I got the MaxKare off of amazon for myself and my gelding gets more use out of it than I do. He loves it, loses his mind when he sees it, and chases me butt first because he wants me to work on his hammies. It has helped him with some back soreness caused by a pinching saddle, ordered his new one today. It has also helped his back end stay nice and loose, and his neck and shoulders stay soft. GREAT purchase for him, still trying to find someone to put it to good use on my back
Heads up to anyone interested that Theragun has released their Black Friday dealz:
https://www.theragun.com/us/en-us/blackfriday/
I assume Hypervolt (and other manufacturers) have as well! Great time to pick up one of these things.
Thanks Simkie! Though does it look like they raised their prices? I thought the Thera-Gun Pro was closer to $500, not $600, before this.
I don’t know. Bloomingdales is also having a great sale on these right now:
I got something like it at Sharper Image- works great - about as long as my forearm and beefy
Posts like this are why I love the COTH forums. I love getting this kind of information from other horse owners!
My partner has something like this - it has a large handle though. I can hardly use it on myself or him though, because it makes my face tingle (?) because of the vibration. Are these the same? It would make a great xmas gift to him to have one I can use without whining and sneezing the whole time haha
I ordered a massage gun from Renpho, it should arrive tonight. I have one of the Renpho smart scales and it’s well made. I didn’t want to shell out for a Theragun, etc. I also wanted one that I can easily use on myself, and take to the barn.
I’ll update once I’ve tried it.
So glad to see there’s so many people having success- after we bought the more expensive gun for home and I took it out to the barn it really surprised me how much dust the thing can kick up on even the cleanest horse.
So I ended up getting a BodyBay from Amazon for $70 for the barn. It’s absolutely nice enough to do the job but if it busts, I can replace it. It also has more sensitivity between the range it can
Operate in aka 1-20 instead of 3 intensities. I picked this one for the good reviews AND the ability to go 10 mins without shutting off. Highly recommend. Seems everyone in my barn wants one now. I’d recommend looking at the time one can run as well as the reviews. My mare loves her Sunday massage- can’t recommend it enough.
Btw- I essentially used the same method to introduce it as you would clippers. Start with it off and run it over their body then I would turn it on and let her feel the vibration through my hand before I put it against her. I did it in her stall with a halter and lead the first time, now she stands loose and loves it.
Which model of Bodybay did you get?
How does the “10 mins without shutting off” correlate to the claim of 5 hrs of battery life?
@endlessclimb good question. Most of them have an instant shut off timer to keep the gun from overheating. So though the battery can hold a huge charge like 5 hours, the gun will automatically shut off after a certain run time. I’ve seen 5 and 10 mins continuous use the most in descriptions
@hillary_again I got this one- though it must have been on sale at the time

Thanks for the link! I ordered one.
I bought a Vybe on Amazon when I hurt my back. I began using it on the horses and they love it. It is as powerful as the Theragun, but cheaper ($150 now) .
The only issue I have with it is after almost 2 years of use, one of the two batteries that came with it, doesn’t stay seated, and will fall out if I don’t hold it or tape it. I have been very happy with it. I use it on the horses without tying them and they will position their bodies so I get the spots they want worked on.
eta, it doesn’t shut off automatically, and doesn’t over heat even when I work on both horses, one after the other.
