I guess I’ve seen one field with a similar issue: military families. Some spouses and other relatives take on a bit too strong a personal association with their spouse’s/family member’s military experience. I understand it is STRONGLY frowned upon by those who don’t - considered a real faux pas in that community; not a done thing by respectable folks.

The breathtaking arrogance of self-declaring over qualification with no supporting professional credentials or experience is, just, wow.

Its like they absorb the family members cred via osmosis.

Hmm, I speak proudly of the military members of my family - especially my WWII fighter pilot / career Air Force father. I do it because I AM proud of them, and so very, very appreciative of their willingness to serve and sacrifice for the rest of us.

Do some folks really consider it a faux pas to be proud of your family’s military service? How very sad.

I also thought the 48 Hours episode was very balanced. But as I remember it, the presenter herself stated the background as a battle of two women for MBs attention.

Then they interviewed people from each side.

I don’t find the idea about a rivalry between MHG and LK strange at all. I think it was his inability to choose between MHGs demand that he send LK off and his financial interest in keeping her as a client that created the mess. He should have made a choice, and instead he dithered and put off making a decision.

I think LK and JK are big talkers about money. I’m sure in the beginning part of her time with MB, he had hopes that she would prove to be a lucrative client. I think by the spring of 2019 it was becoming clear she was more trouble than she was worth. But sometimes it’s hard to cut clients loose when you initially had a promising impression that they would prove lucrative. I think MB dithered a bit for that reason… and failed to see just what sort of a monster she was until it was too late.

I don’t think it’s anymore complicated than that.

I still have doubts about JKs net worth, and sincere questions about what the actual source of the $$$$ is when it comes to funding LKs horses and riding at present.

The whole situation has NEVER added up to me.

$5,000 a month is better than $0 a month.

Was there a waiting list of boarders wanting to bring horses in at full board and training and zero empty stalls when he was considering telling LK to leave? No? Then telling her to leave means a loss of income. This is true whether he’s operating at a profit or at s loss at the time.

Maybe he planned to ask her to leave after he got more boarders lined up. Maybe he wanted to get commissions on more horses he sold her before he asked her to leave. Maybe he believed her puffery about unlimited means.

Again, 48 Hours. The interviewer pointed out the Coth mantra - “Isn’t $5,000 a month for two horses in training plus living quarters a sweet deal?” He said, yeah maybe, but there are bills to pay.

Not when $5k per month comes with the baggage that is LK. And how would you know if he did or did not have clients waiting? Additionally, he and MK also bought and sold horses for themselves as well as clients so it stands to reason they may want to have a couple of stalls open.

No they are not as far as I can tell. This is just LK having one of her blowups. Likely out of frustration with the progress of her other civil suits.

In order to start a libel lawsuit you need a cooperative lawyer who thinks you have a good chance, deep pockets, and then you have to get the case accepted for trial. Number one, you need to prove that the statement about you is wrong. If the other party has written proof its not wrong, then you don’t have a case.

LK is likely blowing up to try to “send a message” to chat groups and maybe SS.

Up to the Barisone incident, LK was moving among mostly marginal damaged possibly other addicted people, and only briefly among functional people (around horses). The functional people got her out of their orbits fast because they can smell junkie cray cray white trash chaos and hate it. The more damaged people didn’t, and this kind of fake “I’m gonna sue” rubbish is often used as a threat at that level of society (junkie cray cray white trash). It’s next door to “I’m calling the cops because you parked in front of my house.”

The law adjacent posturing is a real giveaway someone is uneducated and ignorant because they don’t have the scope to understand how stupid they look to the rest of the world. It’s always telling when folks are in a chat here on COTH and are gobsmacked to find out there are posters who are high level competitors, horse pros, real vets, real lawyers, etc. They just assume everyone is an adult beginner with no professional accreditation, like presumably themselves, and don’t have the basic knowledge base to tell when they are chatting to someone who knows their stuff in a given area.

Number one, you need to prove that the statement about you is wrong. If the other party has written proof its not wrong, then you don’t have a case.

Number 0.5: you also have to not have agreed to participate in using your image/statements voluntarily. I am quite sure the agreements that CBS makes you sign at the absolute worst force you to mediation in the case of a dispute about your portrayal but I am 100% sure if they are discussing an active case they make you acknowledge that you are aware that any footage you allow to be taken of you can be used in a court of law.

You know, now that I’ve slept on it. It is very interesting that the excuse given in the tweets is the pan over of the SS complaint and the boxes checked yes to child abuse/sex abuse.

Considering the transcripts are the subject of KK’s subpoena, and the specific example that Mr. Deigninger used was the SS report summary made by JK, I’m guessing there was something behind the scenes with the judge for that prior to his decisions. Or at least that what is currently weighing on their minds is that all the protestations that they did not accuse MB/MH of actual child abuse/sex abuse is about to be shown to be more SM lies…

That’s where I think the notion that RG was a Marine comes from. Robert G. Goodwin was an established officer in the USMC during the time that RG - unsubstantiatedly - claimed to have been one, based on his age and known history with LK, but the two individuals are not one and the same. I noticed that his family members call him “Guy” instead of Robert and that’s likely because there are many men named “Robert Goodwin” in the area and I suspect some of them are family members and one may have been the above mentioned officer in the USMC.

That is incredible to me. They cannot even respond properly to the suit they have in motion and then decide to go after CBS??? It just boggles the mind.

I would guess it is the typical Kanarek threaten to get what you want routine more than an actual lawsuit is filed thing.

I don’t get it. I though 48 Hours was pretty fair and even handed, especially for an entertainment venue.

I watched a repeat of another case not too long ago of someone in the area that I actually knew some background information about. I thought they were a bit off on that one (too critical of a prosecutor but the prosecutor had been in trouble) but then they printed at the end that the defendant had a new trial and was found guilty again.

The fact is his other boarders were looking for somewhere to move to because of LK and particularly RG, as testified! Now, THAT is loss of income to lose long time boarders!!

These people act like the only player in this saga is LK and her needs!!!

It seems that people believe the USEF is “much more” than what it really is. Yet if you look up their lists of rulings and suspensions, it clear they have a very narrow focus.

1. MANY suspensions of people who owe the USEF or licensed competition money.
2. People whose horses have had positive drug testing results at a show.
3. People who personally have tested positive at a show (very rarely is testing done but just recently two people in Europe, FEI levels, got hit.

I think I’ve said this before, but I have never in my life seen a human get drug tested at any USEF horse show. Not once. Horses, yes, many, many, many times.

I think the human drug testing probably only gets done at the FEI level, and by the FEI officials, and then USEF just follows up with reciprocal suspensions for people that are set down by the FEI for that issue.

So obviously that is going to be a fairly small percentage of exhibitors who even compete at that level in the first place, much less flunk a human drug test.

I feel like it’s necessary to point out that the original deal with MB appeared to be $5000 a month for 2 horses and an apartment. I don’t recall if one of those horses was bought from him or not, but if so, then a part of it might have been keeping an eye on “his” schoolmaster, and $5k for 2 horses isn’t that out of line for a multihorse deal, depending. It’s low for the area but it’s not a runaway the deal the way it was for 5 horses.

When that number grew to 5, the deal seems that it was supposed to change, and to me if I read it right some # of those horses were on their way over here when all this went down and lawyers were getting involved.

Not a lot of clarity on this point but to me it reads that one side thought they could have an unlimited number of horses in training for that price, while the other understood it was a deal for 2 or maybe 3 horses, one of which was bought from him. But I really don’t know.
