MB CIVIL SUIT UPDATE #10 K’s Request to Adjourn (delay) DENIED 11/01/22

It is, but it certainly can come in useful when there’s a crime.

I still remember the shooting at the Boston marathon some years back, when they went from having no idea who did it among the thousands and thousands and thousands of people in the vicinity, to narrowing it down to the actual culprits within just a couple of hours. And I think that was largely due to security camera footage, as I recall.

Our sheriff has a list of private security cameras that people provided to them that has video of the road. Mostly they use it for car accidents.

It was a bombing and they had the video of the younger brother leaving it behind a young family and others…killed a boy, his sister lost a leg and a friend of my neighbors lost her leg. All of them are seen in the footage. Heartbreaking.

edited to add that a friend who worked for the State Dept. and helped with the investigation said he told them to look for Chechens because he had done investigations in a previous job and it was their MO. So it’s not just the cameras that find these thin gs out.

There are so many nuances to law and some laws crossover. I can also Google but I understand that I’m not an expert in any field I don’t have a degree in, regardless of how many Google articles I read. I think you saying you’re overqualified is a stretch.

You’re right. Bombing instead of shooting. Horrible either way.

The one redeeming news story that day was of all the people who helped the victims, including the competitors who had just run the marathon, and kept running after the finish line to the hospital to donate blood.

Right - which is why hubby carries his ID. When we present our USAA CC and the cashier asks for proof of service, he show them his ID. Some places keep it in their database and automatically figure in the discount, so we don’t have to keep showing them the ID (Lowe’s and our small animal veterinarian are two places that come immediately to mind). And to reiterate - we don’t ASK for a military discount, but if the cashier asks us if we would like the military discount, we aren’t going to turn it down.

I’m way behind again, but I asked for input from the legal folks earlier today on whether judges sometimes read filings on their off time.

Does anyone know? I am wondering how likely it is that Sceusi will take filings home for a little bit of “bedtime reading.” I can’t imagine how he could wade through all of it along with filings for his other cases and make heads or tails of it by Friday.

Also, is it possible he might order another delay if he hasn’t reached a decision by Friday? Would that show up as a filing?

I agree. He was clearly uncomfortable about it being mentioned and it seemed to me that he was rather anxious about where that line of questioning might lead.

Sure. Being a judge is a job like any other - there’s court time, there’s reading motions, there’s drafting opinions/rulings with your clerk(s), answering emails, etc.

He could order a delay but it’s unlikely, the parties have all filed briefs to inform the judge of their opinion. At the hearing he may ask them to clarify or provide other information/justifications and then issue a ruling or state when the ruling will be available.

I’m not a parent, but knowing that someone made false allegations of child sexual abuse and weaponized CPS in the middle of a personal dispute would give me GREAT PAUSE. I’d probably excuse myself from their presence, and maybe even ask them to stay the eff away from me and my kids.

I would imagine that some judges do take things home to read. The only time judges have to complete a time sheet here is when they take vacation or sick leave. If they work 8 hours per day they do not have to fill out a time sheet.

Our judges travel, they may take other case material with them if they have a decision that is due so they can work on that as well as attending their hearing.

I have never heard there is a rule against taking work home. If documents are Sealed that may be a different story.

You can’t be the one creating an unsafe environment and then call and report an unsafe environment. It doesn’t work like that.

I am sorry that I misinterpreted your meaning. It wasn’t clear to me that you were referring primarily to those trashy folks who loudly demand a military discount everywhere they go, and especially if they don’t have adequate proof they actually qualify for it.

I wasn’t thinking clearly, having just spent half the night at the emergency vet where I ended up having to leave my dog in ICU (acute pancreatitis). I guess that isn’t really a good excuse for overreacting, but it is the truth. I’m still a bit stunned about it, and still worried about her.

Back to the main topic. Is it likely that Sceusi might cogitate on the filings “after-hours”?

Donor development, too. Hoo baby, I could have an assessment of someone’s wealth and capacity to give in about half an hour of google searching. It is amazing what is online.

In your estimation, what do you think is the reason LK is now threatening to sue CBS?

For this forum? Maybe, but doubtful. I reckoned to everyone to double check what is being spoon fed here.

I’m so sorry you are dealing with that. Our animals have huge pieces of our hearts and it takes up A LOT of our emotional bandwidth when they are not feeling well or are at the vet. The week before we had to put my heart kitty down due to his rapidly failing health I was a wreck. Like pouring coffee over my cereal because I was just so mentally and emotionally distracted. I can only imagine your stress and emotions right now. Hopefully you can take some time for yourself today and give yourself a breather.

The thing that people don’t realize who do not work in the legal field, there may be state law regarding something, you go read the state law, in that state law there may be a reference to a federal law, you go read that where there may be a mention of another law or case somewhere else, opps flip to that. Then you can also run across various Rules, in NC is the NCAC(North Carolina Administrative Code) that can be referenced.

You have to read of the Law associated with whatever you are reading, because one may trump the other.

My explanation is over simplified and not totally spot on, but I think covers the jist of things.

One reason people say the law is up for interpretation by whomever is reading it. shrug
