ad them since I was a 2LT (Second Lieutenant commissioned in 1976). It used to be small enough that their service was really personalized, and almost all of their employees were former servicemembers. They really understood the specific issues that only affect the military.

As they opened up eligibility and their numbers grew, they lost that sense of talking with someone who had been in your shoes. I’m still with them though all these years later

We are still with them for auto and home insurance. We definitely don’t do mortgages through them anymore though. And the quality of customer service has fallen way off, sadly.

My in laws have been with them since the 70’s. They had a huge home insurance situation a few years ago… and my mother in law jumped through hoops trying to get support from USAA. My MIL is a ridiculously detailed person who saves every receipt, documents everything… I can’t even begin to explain how meticulous the woman is. And she’s stubborn as hell and will stay on the phone for hours or even days trying to chase down issues or save a few bucks (haha… it’s borderline comical)… But MAN… USAA customer service was awful to her with respect to the homeowner’s claim. She was SO upset about the whole thing, and frankly, it was really upsetting to hear about it. The MIL took the whole thing personally… my father in law is a Vietnam Vet & a double amputee, and she said over the past decades they have always experienced wonderful, personal customer service from USAA. But something drastically changed in the last 10 years.

I can’t remember all the details of the testimony - did the officer say that he had actually questioned and ID’d the person, or was it just an assumption that it was MHG’s father (and if the latter, based on what?)?
