I would imagine that once MB does his steps he will be released and restraining orders will be issued for both parties. NJ will only care about NJ goings on.
Continued therapy may be ordered but as most appointments are done virtually nowadays that won’t restrict MB to NJ.
As this is not parole MB will be free to go wherever he wants. I’m sure NJ will be more than happy to have this become Florida’s problem.
There is an excellent 2017 article in the New York Times Magazine, “When Not Guilty is a Life Sentence.” I would link to it but it is under a pay wall.
Here are some statistics cited:
According to a 2017 survey by the National Association of State Mental Heath Program Directors, there are more than 10,000 people in the U.S. held under NGRI, both before a trial and after a verdict.
The group’s director estimated that, based on states self reporting, the average custody was 5 to 7 years.
The NY Times study of six states’ data found a significant portion had been hospitalized more than two years. NEARLY 1,000 had been held 5 to 15. More than 400 had been hospitalized more than 15.
Tennessee has adopted an immediate evaluation of NGRI before any hospitalization. 55 percent now go immediately to out patient care with no change in recidivism. But other states have not adopted that strategy.
The last step is unconditional release. So Barisone will be out if and when he reaches that.
I think the conditional release, the penultimate step, is where Taylor and the board will be ultra cautious because of the civil case and the proximity.
I can’t imagine how she could possibly show in Wellington - that bridge has burnt and collapsed. If I were at a show and she was competing I would walk out and probably boo her - although my Angel mother would wishper in my ear not to do so…. But I think the tent and stadium stands would turn their backs to her. She doesn’t have a chance
You would be surprised at how many people don’t follow this story in the dressage world…neither one of my trainers who go to Wellington would know her if they fell over her.
This is not the average case. He is not the average patient. He was not the average defendant. He will not be held for that long unless he suffers a mental episode.
He will not suffer a mental episode. Or at least he shouldn’t.
Things have progressed from 2017. One such reason is covid.
These are negotiated sentences based on plea deals where the defendants agreed to lengthy hold times in the face of guilty verdicts and criminal sentences. Apples and Oranges, since MB got it through a jury verdict.
And even if they know of her or have heard of her, most would probably not recognize her on sight. Most people look pretty similar in their show clothes if you don’t actually know them.
Or as a friend of mine expressed it about somebody else years ago, I would not know him if I stood in line behind him at the horse show food stand. Lol.
Top trainers do know all about the case as they trained with MB -aka those going to the Olympics - and those hoping to go to the Olympics - Oh they know…. BNT do know her name and what she did …. And those around these top trainers who then go and start their own training facilities know who and what she is - she doesn’t have a chance. And it’s only going to get worst for her as more things unfold
Agree, but once her name is announced and posted on the screen - everyone will know who she is - I think there will be a lot of people standing with their backs to the ring
They know Barisone they are just not as involved in this drama and don’t know who Lauren is. Seriously, there are a lot of people who are not following this story at all. I bring it up here and there and people barely remember anything except that Barisone shot a client. There are a lot of top trainers who are not going to the Olympics in Wellington.
Agree. But if she came to their barn I wonder if they would let her in. A lot more stuff is going to come out. I know she is currently at a very good, highly regarded barn now. I wonder how they are feeling right now…. They must know what is going on - and this is a barn with high expectations so…. One reaps what one sows…
There was an article in the WaPo today about people who have recipes carved on their tombstones and one woman is now seeking out more to photograph and, of course, give the recipes a try.
She says the spritz cookies were amazing. They also posted photos of the fudge recipe. I want the recipe that features dates.
I think that is a great idea. Names fade, relatives have no stories to share of their dead ancestor - but post your favorite recipe on a gravestone and you may be cherished by more than relations!
Also, so far it is only women who shared recipes. I must chivvy my dad for his best/favorite recipe. I dunno if the cemetery he is likely to want to be buried at will permit a recipe on a tombstone, but I’ll try. You know, someday.
If one looks at it from the other side… She’s afraid of MB and MHG who plotted to kill her, correct?
It would make the most sense, in that case, when choosing a house to buy, out of all the houses out there to pick from… to pick one far, far, VERY far… from any of the people who allegedly plotted to kill her.
But maybe that’s just me.
