It’s a strange thing. An Olympian is someone who excels at whatever their sport is. Beyond that they’re regular people, albeit with different drive (and maybe physical attributes) and skill sets than the rest of us. LK tried to make it sound like he was all powerful because of his Olympic experience. It’s an example of her juvenile thinking.
Makes her look like she had climbed to the level of training with “an Oplympian”. Made her look to uneducated eyes like she was training for the Oympics. And makes it look like what she claims he did ruined her future etc. It didnt;she was not on an Olympic track and indeed her lack of talent and laziness and drug addiction may have made her someone MB and even MHG were uninterested in training, once tgey realized how little talent and what a poor work ethic she had. Psychopaths often need to be recognized for their storyline, whatever it is, and once the MB crowd was disillusioned with her she may have been enraged enough to go after them in retribution for not giving her the laud and honor she required.
Having him be an Olympic Medalist also makes the loss of her place in his pantheon more monetarily valuable in her .mind.
Well, incorporating what @Ambitious_Kate said, it’s sexier to have been training with an Olympic caliber rider, than just a really talented rider, I guess? Name dropping 101, for those who think prestige rubs of on the people in that person’s orbit.
MHG actually testified that LK was a nice, or competent (I forget the adjective she used) rider and we know she didn’t have a good work ethic, so maybe she does have some talent.
She also, being a classy individual, had only kind things to say about Lauren, though they were not effusive. There is an irony in having to use the testimony of someone you clearly hate to represent your own character…
I remember back when I first joined the Forum in 2005, I was having lunch with a woman who had been the barn manager at my daughter’s boarding barn, and she had just taken a job as an intern writing for the Chronicle. I proudly told her I was a new Forum member, and she said, “Oh, the owners and writers think all those women are nuts.”
Except he is/was an Olympic caliber rider. That is a factual statement.
The completely incorrect statement in the legal documents that were filed is that he is an Olympic medalist, which he is not. I would certainly wonder what other things are factually incorrect in those documents if they could not even get that extremely basic thing right. It’s not like it’s hard to check on that competitive history.
I would think any legal professional would be worried about their credibility when they include something that is so simple to disprove.
What an unprofessional thing to say. The whole, sole reason I learned of the Forums and began lurking was an article in the old, real Chronicle. It was on the next to the last page and covered the death of Cactuskate and the tremendous support she received from the Forums.
I have no comment on its appropriateness - but I have a feeling there was a kernel of truth to it. She was reporting on what she had been told at the time. I personally found it funny. There have been some off the rails threads on this forum in the years that I have belonged - many of them are archived, and referred to as “train wrecks” by forum members themselves.
Ok, I mis typed, he is an Olympic caliber rider, but did not a medalist.
But I believe, with little evidence but some experience with people who think like she does, that she believes it makes her look better.
That’s not to say it has the effect she wants it to have. In fact, in the context of a lawsuit, it hurts her case as it shows she isn’t truthful even in motions where MBs status as a rider doesn’t need to be mentioned.
I mean, why lie about stuff that can easily be refuted in a lawsuit that could end up costing you a lot of money?
Edited to add that I totally agree with you, it hurts her case on a level that will be hard to overcome. And why her attorneys haven’t learned to verify what she tells them is mind boggling.
