Michael Barisone/Lauren Kanarek Civil Suit

Quite a paragraph. Yes, I personally tend to read their accusation s of others on this board as an indication of what the Ks and their ilk have been doing themselves that is foremost on their mind.

I think their current, self-created public reputation upsets them because it is so bad and so universally regarded as bad. They cannot do anything about what’s already been said and done and put out there (by themselves on SM, via arrest records, on the witness stand, and through court filings), but they can try to drag LO’s reputation down, too.

It would be a truly awful thing to do, as she has done nothing to warrant the attack. But, sadly, it would not be surprising if this is the newest angle. I hope she’s well supported and protected. She deserves none of this.

Ambitious_Kate, my apologies that this isn’t actually a reply to you - but I just can’t work out how to add something here without it being a reply! (Is it because only the OP can do that?)

Just came across this on You Tube; no doubt there are going to be differing takes on key events, some inaccuracies and/or omissions - anyhoo… for what it’s worth:

When a Dispute Gets Ugly | True Crime | Olympian vs Pupil - YouTube

The comment section might be something of a predictor as far as the civil suit.

Wow, that’s a great documentary. Thanks for that link

PR, if you drag your finger, on your phone, over what ypu wat to copy, you can get a grey “quote” tag that pops up when you remove your finger from the now highlighted text. Tap that “quote” and the text appears in the reply box, if you scroll down to it. On a computer, highlight the quoteable text, do the same thing.

I find getting to the reply box tricky, but keep scrolling down to find it.

It only let me like this post once. That is not enough. GREAT post, very great post!

When was the last time you saw so many online comments agree on anything?!?

I didn’t read all of them. I wonder if LK has jumped in there with both feet yet.

As LO has become MBs rock, I can see how a plot to weaken her might, to a simple minded and malignant person, seem to make sense. To a damaged thinking person it might seem that weakening LO would also weaken MB too thus making him more apt to settle.

That’s not going to work.

I imagine given the high drama of this situation that both LO and MB have multiple other rocks to lean on - at least that’s what appears to be given the strength and number of witnesses on his behalf at the trial. And the number of donations to his fund.

And the harder the push to destroy him, the more hands are offered to him to help.

It is inevitable that MB will be released and will be embraced by his friends and supported in his future endeavors whatever they might be. And as of now, the person holding his hand through this will be LO.

I am sure a practicing litigation attorney might be able to answer this easily, but isn’t it unlikely LO is included in any attorney client conversations as that would waive attorney client privilege? (You cant just waive a little A_C can you?) Plus complicating things she will likely be an MB witness and MB attorneys would have that in mind in any interactions.

That might also complicate things if LK claims her father was representing her before the shooting (that does not seem to have happened at this time, as father seems to be staying away from that, but if so what has been waived, and when does a lawyer becomes a witness, etc. etc.)

(This case could provide a lifetime of bar questions on a vast areas of the law it seems.)

I know you do not do this, Omare, but leaving the post whole so no one claims I edited to make confusion.
Pieces I am replying to below.

She was not part of the criminal trial, so why would she likely be a witness for the civil trial?

I believe they tried that already and the annoying fact that Jonathan Kanarek (@Inigo-montoya) is not licensed to practice law in NJ (or Florida) ruined that attempt.

Ditto. @FitzE did a superb job of articulating the heart of the matter.

This. 100% this.

IMs earlier posts on this thread, when he was allegedly addressing ‘LO’ ? He sneered and mocked and belittled. It was a totally transparent and crude attempt to ‘divide and conquer,’ and frankly… very revealing with respect to the fact that the guy is quite unsophisticated when dealing with others. He came across like a teenager who lacks decent manners. Not like a grown adult who has had any sort of meaningful professional career.

Add to it these stories about how he reached out to multiple Wellington professionals, to see if anyone would take on Lauren and her horses for training, and was apparently declined, and reacted by spewing nastigrams…

Anyway… the guy is who he is. And we now all know who he is. And LO will be ok… regardless of his pathetic attempts to trash and harass her… because she is clearly cut from a different cloth than IM and Lollypop.

I guess desperation is speaking. I just watched that newer podcast linked recently and read the comments. Even with a few questionable statements made in that doc NOT in favor of MB, the epically overwhelming number of comments favoring MB and damning LK were stunning to witness. I’ve never seen a bigger consensus of opinion anywhere, on anything.

A civil jury? Oh my!

I don’t think it has anything to do with her and more about economics. A super trainer can make a lot of $$ in a one weekend clinic than boarders. The boarders they do want are really dedicated and want to learn and work hard. After all if they are successful it helps the BNT’s reputation.

At least this is how it seems to be in NC now (the place dressage goes to die).

Because they will be able to go much deeper into the background of the atmosphere around the barn leading up to the shooting, which they were not allowed to do in the criminal trial.

The goal is when those students go forth into the horse world and show world they represent that trainer. Yes their riding quality does, their behavior does, their disposition does.

Certain bad students can, by their own actions, have a negative impact on their own trainer’s reputation.

I had the same thought.

The civil trial is not a referendum on the criminal trial, right? It’s on the whole situation.

That video did a good job. It seemed to me everything they presented was factual.

They left a few things out, though. IMHO, they should have included MB’s trip to town to speak with the LE Supervisor, the non-collecting of forensic evidence and how CSP was actually contacted.

The commenters all believe LK contacted CSP herself. (I think we did, too, in the beginning).

Clinics and selling horses are where the big money is made, but deep-pocketed ammies are the bread and butter of most trainers still. Not your Olympians and super BNTs, maybe, who have big sponsors and owners to support them. And a lot of trainers don’t really care if their ammy students progress, as long as they pay the bills. Many of these rich older ladies are happy to have a lesson or two a week and let the trainer ride and show the horse for them. Having the talented YRs and up and coming pros get great results is good advertising for their program, but not so much the average ammy who is delighted to reach Third Level.
