Microchipping at all USEF Shows

Just so everyone is aware, USEF passed the rule at their Mid Year Board meeting requiring all horses competing at USEF Events to be microchipped by December 1, 2025.

Here are some other ones passed as well!

Correct, my computer was trying to autocorrect the date!

I’ve had the trainer microchipping when getting to the shows as of last week. No clue who is scanning, bc my horse has never been scanned recently :woman_shrugging:t2:

Cue H/J freak out in 3… 2…

All H/J horses have had to have microchips since 2018.

Duh, I completely forgot about that! And it was a magnificent kerfuffle, you think I’d remember, but getting old sucks

Why would you presume that the H/J folks would “freak out”? Aside from the fact that it’s been required for years, getting your horse microchipped is easy. Literally no one I know even batted an eye at it.

It’s the Arabian owners in my social media orbit who are freaking out.

must say I am one of the first to byotch about the and and and fees and red tape required to show sanctioned but microchipping would be one I wouldn’t complain about as it has big picture benefits beyond being able to show. Of course EC has been working on an Equine ID program for 10? years now with little results so a moot point here.

What kinds of concerns are they having over it? It seems like such a non-issue to me.

Because there were endless, and I do mean endless rants in the hj board when it was originally proposed (several times before passing, I just wasn’t paying attention when it finally passed, as it was no longer relevant to my interests).

You are :100: correct, it’s shockingly easy, completely baffling why it would be opposed and very useful to make sure your horse is who it is supposed to be (unless you are actively trying to give an oversized pony a new identity) but that didn’t stop the conspiracy theorist keyboard warriors from completely losing their shit back when it was originally proposed!

@Montanas_Girl my money was on the saddlebred peeps, but the Arabian peeps makes complete sense!

We are a nation of people who were worried a vaccine included a tracker. Extrapolate from there.:rofl::rofl:

Everything from “added expense” to “No organization can tell me what to put in my animals!” It’s absurd.

Exactly. Not surprisingly, it’s the same people…

Exactly the same thing the hj peeps complained about. Although in hindsight, once it went into effect, I don’t recall much hysteria, so there is that (probably why I forgot it passed)

Saddlebred people are freaking out as well. I’ve had to unfollow multiple trainers due to their nonsense.

I’m so glad they didn’t disappoint me!

Oh right, I forgot I live in 'Murica . All of my horses have them, as do my friends horses, but… not long ago my NextDoor feed was filled with people who were convinced some sort of monitoring device was being added to street lights. So, yeah.

Street lights? Seriously?! There’s cameras everywhere.

On a side note, a lot of STB people got upset when they went with chips, but only because they wanted to drop the freeze brands completely. So now people can still freeze brand and many big farms and stables are making sure their younger horses are done so they can be easily spotted if they land in a bad situation.
