Miniature horse folks- question about Horsewear sizing

Horsewear makes an “Amigo Petite” line that is supposed to be sized for miniature horses.

Generally HW has you measure from the center of chest to center of tail and THEN SUBTRACT 4 INCHES to determine the HW size.

Does anyone know if this is also true for the Amigo Petite? Do you still subtract 4 inches from the actual measurement? THX

That’s weird. My pony wears a 60 inch amigo t/o but he technically measures 58. He is definitely on the chubby side though and the 60 fits him perfectly. If I subtracted four inches and tried to get anything on him it would not fit at all!

I’ve always ordered my amigo turnouts and liners true to size and they have fit great I don’t know why it would be different for miniature? Where are you trying to order it from, do they do returns for free?

My experience with the Amigo line is the same as @carman_liz mentioned above. True to size.

I know nothing about the how the petite line fits.

I don’t think many local places carry the Amigo Petite line. So I could return but would have to pay return shipping and I’d rather try to get it right the first time.

Do you guys agree I’m reading the instructions right though when it says measure and then subtract 4 inches? That’s what HW is saying in the attached, right?

@vxf111 the struggle I’ve had with mini blankets is that fit is so difficult, more so than with horse blankets. I’ve never ended up with the horseware petites it part because of concerns about fit and in part because of the front closure.

In past ads, all the minis have been these tiny, slight things. I have a thicker built mini. He’s not fat (he actually shouldn’t lose weight), but he’s just thicker? Not fragile looking. And broad chested. I very much rely on an adjustable chest. For my TBs, a t-front closure is usually fine, but not with my mini. Some brands run narrow in front, some don’t (shire’s mini blankets are almost too narrow in front—we do use a sheet, but I don’t love the fit and if it want so light, it wouldn’t work. I still watch for rubs). For us, Schneider’s are the best all around fit.

I love horseware in general and I’d love to try the petite line, but I just don’t have enough info. If you do end up ordering, let me know about fit. I’d like to have another option (or rule it out completely). My mini has an extensive wardrobe and doesn’t need more than 6+ blankets (he gets body clipped or he sweats when we have warm weather and then gets chilled. I can also more easily manage his weight. He also loves being clipped and blanketed and is incredibly grumpy when turned out without even with a full coat. Clipping just works for us.), but still… when I find stuff on clearance for $25, who can resist?

:rofl::joy::rofl:
Then THIS is a jelly-filled bismark:

CAVEAT:
NOT mine! :grimacing:
Belongs to a friend who is in denial re: Tubbo’s girth.

Sorry, I’m no help with mini blankets.
My guy is so Yak in Winter a blanket is superfluous :smirk:
I do have a 100g, but not sure who made it.
I went for open neck, so adjustable.

This is Fabio, I mean Jiminy.

He’s hitting his ugly color season and currently looks like a moldy potato. He’s still cute, but I’ll spare you the pictures. I’m clipping this weekend since he’s sweating a lot on these warm days and pretty miserable. That’ll give him time to grow some cost back before we have an actual winter (assuming we do).

Minis are painfully cute, aren’t they. This is my first experience with one that isn’t a brat and I’m in LOVE with him!

IDK if this will help (probably not) but the other Amigo/Horsewear blankets run a little large on my pony and minis. I have not tried the petite line for the very reason you posted. I can’t really figure out the subtracting issue. Plus I have a feeling they would not fit depth wise on my minis and their bellies would be nekkid. My minis are not refined lightweights :grinning:
Schneiders fit my guys well FWIW and run true to size.

Beware!
They lull you into a false sense of security & mastery with their weaponized Cuteness.
Nobody has told them 34" is not equal to 18H :expressionless:

Bugs has finagled the privilege of coming in the service door with me.
I started this so it was easier to get him into his own stall to be fed apart from the horse.
Before he needed different grain, he’d share with the horse. In the same stall, from the same feedpan.
Heck! Sometimes I’m merely the Doorman.
Then he inspects & samples the stacked bales from the aisle, while pony & horse wait for dinner in their stalls.
He does obey when I open his stall & tell him “Go to your house!”
But his wittle ears are pinned.
Which I translate to:
“I’m going because I want to. Not because you told me to!”

I ended up buying some non-HW brand blankets after contacting HW and not getting a response back. Plus these other ones were a good price and I can return them, so I figured I’d give it a try and then at least I’d have some general sense of how blankets fit the wee boy.

Can you update us with review when your blankets arrive? I’d love to know what you got and how it fits. And if your mini approves of his new duds :slightly_smiling_face:.

Happy to update everyone.

I got Hobbit the County Pride. He measures a 43 which should have been a large, but it was plainly a size too large so I exchanged it for a medium. The sheet and blanket fit him well. I was most concerned with the drop being weird, but it was perfect. He’s a medium sized mini and neither Arabian horse type build nor a total rotund butterball. He’s more of a Shetland horse inspired look? I should measure him and confirm his height. He seems medium to me. I’ve seen bigger and smaller minis. Anyway, I’m happy with the fit and we’ll see how this wears.

I have a couple of older mini Country Pride blankets and they wear like iron, mine are the velcro ones for the mini and a turnout for my welsh. Your mini is a cutie pie !

Thank you. Me and my mare are obsessed

Even though I have minis I am always amazed at how tiny they are!

I haven’t measured him but I should. I feel like he’s on the small side for a mini? But I mostly ride 17.2+ giants so my eye is way off.

He’s pretty small! My two minis take 46-48 inch blankets and they measure just barely 34 and 33 inches in height. I would guess by the blanket size your fella is quite smaller than mine.
