@Dr_Doolittle ~ are you admiring Miuccia ?!
She won the bluest of blue ribbons !
Miuccia??
really ? just crawl out from under that rock - Crufts ? Dog Show ? anything sounding familiar ?
CRUFTS ~ Best in Show ~ world’s largest dog show ~ Miuccia !!
Oh!!! Good heavens, yes! I didn’t connect that right away because I didn’t immediately recognize the dog’s name – but I was jumping around the room and cheering when I read this online - even though I didn’t get to see the show!
SUCH a big deal and a huge honor for a Whippet!!
@Dr_Doolittle
Phew ! Canter on ! But carefully and stay in the ring with the gate shut perhaps !
LOL, thanks for your concern – fortunately I think dementia is a little down the road for me, or at least I hope so
I’m hoping this link works – I shared it on Facebook, posting: “I want to kiss that face, but I’ll have to settle for kissing my own whippet’s face”
This sweet girl has the characteristic Whippety “look of existential angst” Their body language and expressions are all exactly the same - hilarious, and of course very endearing to me and other Sighthound lovers.
You know me too well!
Awww, I love how proud he is of her and he said “I adore her”.
She seems to have a brindle color. Is this common in Whippets? I’ve seen lots of Greyhounds with brindle coats.
Yes, I love that – I say the same thing to my whippet(s) on the regular!
Yes, I believe she’s a brindle (a common Whippet color), though she is more of a tan brindle; whippets come in any and all color combinations, it’s all “legal” for the breed standard - but light eyes are heavily penalized.
Here is the Best in Show judging for those (like me) who missed it:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-pjKClC2K4&t=18s
Thanks for the video!
A question for all the dog people. (I love all animals but have always been a cat owner as an adult).
Cats are a much more homogenous animal than dogs where the breeds vary so greatly. All the dogs were beautiful and I’m sure at the top of their breeds as far as conformation/meeting breed standard. When a judge has close-to-perfection with each of these dogs, how can they possibly decide on best in show? Does it come down to a sub-conscious preference for small vs large, working vs non-working, etc? I’ve never understood how they can decide when the breeds are so different.
P.S. No offense to the darling whippet, but I would have given it to the cute-as-a-button Jack Russell.
I would imagine it could be similar to chickens, where different traits are weighted differently in the judging. So if it’s very close but one has a better something but the other has a better something that’s worth more that could tip it.
Ahhh, my dog of choice for over 30 years. After losing my last boy to cancer and it was very tragic as he succumbed in the middle of the night while a was praying for God to take him, I never got over it. I now am the proud mom of two little Italian Greyhound stinkers!! They are great barn pups and the most snuggly sweet house dogs. I am blessed to have them.
