It seems to me from reading on this thread and other places as if the NJSPCA knew about this for quite some time, and for whatever reason weren’t acting with any sense of urgency. A news station does a story on it, and the horses are removed within the week. Do I have that right? Was it a coincidence they finally pulled the horses this week or was it caused by the news story (as it appears to have been)?
By “handlers” I mean nurse maids to keep her episodes to a minimum. It was after her divorce that she really degraded mental health wise.
She had a huge sponsor in Sweden, and I’m not sure if she had alimony from Ron but that was the rumor, that his divorce was so expensive because it was worth it.

It appears they may have been on the fence, and the news story w/outrage got them to the farm to extract the horses.
Sounds like “the system” failed more than just the animals in this case. Hope they all get help now.

She’s not a businesswoman…a lot of deals in which she spent money went bad.
Some could term her ‘difficult’ to deal with.

Thank you for the glimpse into the past. I too hope all affected parties get help.
I just saw on FB that some horses have finally been removed [edit]!

The mental health system fails all the time (If you want to feel really disgusted, read the Adam Lanza/Sandy Hook report.) The only way we can make sure that this woman won’t hurt animals in the future is to get her help.
Again, we appreciate that this is an emotionally charged topic, but let’s please avoid getting into insults, name calling, inappropriate language, etc. – toward each other or the subject of the thread – when discussing it.
Thanks,

Our goal now is to focus on what charges it ends up to with monica,s horses, and goat. And I hope cats and dog get seized too. I have not witnessed her cat rescue myself. I do know her 2 dogs, 1 she still has last I known, and seen her abuse both her dogs. of course will follow up with the horses as it becomes available. lets keep this group on track . Stop Monica Thors. Not a lynch mob etc.
Punc grammar cops…read it and weep.

You read that account and that is the only comment you felt compelled to make? I am truly surprised the mods are tolerating your constant pot stirring. Notice I stopped short of calling your behavior what I feel it really is. That’s for you mods!

Why didn’t anyone speak up before this escalated this far?? Where is her son!?
I believe he is in Canada, and from what I understand is estranged from his mother. Which, despite the current situation and what is going on, I do find pretty heartbreaking.
Any update on the cats? I mean are there any efforts to do welfare checks on them at least? Any action at all?
This situation is just horrible for a lot of reasons, her ex Ron Waples and her son Matt have nothing to do with her. It is probably a reason why Monica started seriously losing her grip on reality 3 years ago.
I do not hate Monica, I’ve known her too many years and mental illness is a horrible disease that causes so much damage to those closest to the person.
I do hope that somebody reaches out to Monica and helps her get the help she so desperately needs and the animals can stop suffering.

I could have said they left the ‘L’ out in goat…but that’s obvious.
I am glad that I did not notice this thread until after the horses were rescued. What a sigh of relief that they will get the care they need or be humanely euthanized.
Huge jingles for these animals.
I do hope that someone who is part of Monica’s life gets her the help that she so clearly needs.
What is the pink thing she is holding in these (and many other) photos?
I’ve read at least 100 comments about the ‘helmet’.
And, I’ve read at least 50 say they’ve been up and down her facebook photo page.
(all over, not just COTH)
Yet…not a single person has remarked about the photo showing the head injury and subsequent increasing donning of the helmet thereafter.
Pitiful.
I do not know about the head injury photo but I did see several posts here say that she might have a past head injury and that is why she is always wearing a helmet.
It does not hurt that people ask a question, even if you do not like the question.
She apparently takes a photo with an animal and this sparkly heart thing when she receives a donation.
As for any past head injury, I’ve been through the photos and saw nothing about that. She may have settings on some pictures that only allow “friends” to view them though. I’m not one and shan’t be.
However, I did see her answer a question on one of the photos that asks her “why the helmet?” Her response was “always the helmet around horses.” She went on to elaborate on another photo about how it was for safety.
I think we can all see why.

I commend this young man, for being smart enough to extricate himself from a toxic person.

You are blaming the husband & the son for her mental issues?
Why don’t YOU be the one to step up & help her?
Before you try pointing the finger to me…Because I do not give 2 pigs behinds about her! If legal, I want the woman deported back to Sweden; where they can foot the cost of her mental issues. So no, I would not be her best advocate.
But I can certainly be counted in for my $ for the care & rehab of her horses, once it is determined where that money can be safely sent to. Not to the NJSPCA!
They just reported that two were put down and there are five remaining.
