More New Horses: Bert and Ernie

Yes, the pony’s transformation is a fabulous story. Amazing!

I need all your secrets! That pony looks fabulous, I never would have guessed the same equine.

I know folks are partial to Ernie, but I adore Burt, he seems like a watcher and you can see his wheels turning in your foot video.

I’m with you on Bert, I loff him!

I am also partial to Bert.

Both are cute, but Bert just calls to me with his careful, slow to trust mindset.

What?
You mean there are people who don’t talk to their horses? :astonished:

(I love Ernie too, but I am more in love with Bert.)

Team Bert!!!

That confo shot confirms my initial gut feeling about Bert, sad face notwithstanding

Can’t wait to see you in the show hunter ring Bert!!!

I honestly think he’s still just a little confused about what I’m doing way over there :joy: I swear, he looks much less pained when we’re working.

He reminds me of my dearest departed TB (as a youngster) a LOT. All head and legs right now.

As far as the pony goes, I’m afraid there aren’t many secrets! Just all the hay he wants (plus a touch of alfalfa) and a ration balancer. He’s a pretty easy keeper, and he self-regulates really well so I’ve never had to worry much about him over-eating or getting too chunky.

I think we’ve got pretty close to a 50/50 split on fans of Ernie vs fans of Bert :joy:

 I can promise it won’t be with me, my pockets are far too shallow to go to H/J shows! But as always, Bert decides. I think Bert could probably go just about any direction!

I can see Bert driving and excelling in CDEs.

I am a sucker for a chestnut and would likely pick Ernie but something about Bert, based on my experiences, tells me he might be the better partner of the two. Can I be team Ernie but be in Berts fan club?.

I’m on Team Bert too.
I used to own a “Burt” and he was the best horse I ever had. I see similarities.

I love Bert, but am team Ernie all the way. I am a sucker for red heads with personality. If I had the funds and room for a young horse, he would have been on his way here before his price dropped. Alas, I only have room for one more and it needs to be both sound and under saddle since my two have decided to be pasture pets.

Can’t decide which I love more. Generally, a chestnut with bling is my jam but such a hard time deciding here. I love them both and look forward to the updates.

You can be team both! I certainly am :joy:

Um, you want me to send you one of my others? I have three that fit that bill, plus the OTTB that is theoretically “broke” but I haven’t gotten around to restarting him yet. Plenty of horses and ponies to go around!

Much like children (of which I only have one, so don’t have to choose) I could never pick a favorite horse. I like them ALL, just in different ways. That goes for the pre-existing ones too. It makes it very hard to decide who to sell when you like them all.

I think Ernie is going to be the more ammy-friendly of the two. Bert’s got the “special sauce” but it comes at a price. Both boys move about the same, although I still have no evidence to back up that claim. But I’ve seen Ernie’s trot and it’s every bit as nice as Bert’s.

It’s nearly done raining, so I’m off to go play with my youngsters again!

I’ve never met a horse I didn’t like :joy:. I’ve met some that I wouldn’t want to ride, or I didn’t like handling because their owners wouldn’t maintain manners, but I’ve never met one I didn’t like. I’m sure the universe will find one for me someday lol

I’m very partial to a chestnut, seeing as I’ve owned so many! But Bert has the handsome factor going for him right now!

Well I am in the market…

Back to thunderstorms. 15 minutes with each, threw a late lunch and did my dinner prep chores and that was all she wrote (for now) with the lightning breathing down my neck.

Ernie has mastered both the hair brush and the spray bottle. That boy has some good hair genes, his tail his going to be gorgeous when it grows out.

Ernie needs some help with his neck posture (a growth spurt wouldn’t hurt the situation either)

Then it was Bert’s turn. Bert also mastered the hair brush and the spray bottle, and he remembered his lessons from yesterday on picking his feet up very well. Gold stars all around.

I hid some cookies on top of the round bale in an attempt to get Bert to do a better job of posing

Big? Small? Fast? Slow? Flashy? Plain? Something for just about everyone here.

LOL, I bet you do!
OK, here is my wish list.
Min 15.1h as long as it takes up leg, and no older than 12.
I need something that I can have fun on - lots of trails, some low-level dressage, possibly a bit of low level eventing in the future. I need to get fit (which I am not ATM) and build my confidence back up (the fitness will help with that too). Ideally the horse will be able to be used eventually to pony my PSSM mare for fitness.
The plan is to get something beginner safe so that DH will be able to learn to ride on it. He rode for a little bit back in the 90’s, but I would still consider him a beginner. He prefers horses that go if you ask, but their default gait is stop, lol. He probably won’t be riding until next year though, so as long as the brain is there, I can put some training in.
