Yeah. Get used to that…
I thought it was cute to teach my little Half Arabian to play fetch as a weanling. Now, as an adult, she will grab things out of my hand, toss them, “fetch” them back, and then stare at me expectantly, waiting for her cookie. I created a monster. A very cute monster, but a monster nonetheless.
hahaha no good deed goes unpunished! I spent ONE afternoon clicker training my mare when she was 3 to bow for a treat – she’s now 23 and will sometimes just start waving her massive clodhopper around in hope that a treat might come her way.
Yep, that’s what I needed in my life – someone else who thinks I’m incompetent
dog thinks she is a horse, she was raised with foals, that photo of her with the buckskin was not staged, she saw him relaxing and joined him
One of my ponies disliked dogs. He would steal the dog’s favorite squeaky toy and hold it up where the dog couldn’t reach it, squeaking away the whole time. The dog learned very quickly not to take toys where the pony could get them.

I’m on a roll! Here’s us futzing around over some poles in hand. At least one of us is somewhat coordinated

My friend sent me these videos — Pete vs the tractor:

Yesterday I thought we’d play around with walking over a tarp, and I left him loose in the arena while setting stuff up. He grabbed the tarp in his teeth, trotted around shaking it, dropped it, rolled on it, stood on it, walked over it, then looked at me smugly like “was that supposed to be some kind of test? Did I pass?”
And finally, this picture cracks me up — Pete’s best buds are two enormous drafts and he’s frequently found sandwiched between the two. He’s hard to spot, but he’s there. To me he looks like some skinny little rock star with his enormous body guards
When I had a flock of Jacob sheep, it took two of use to mow the grass—one to drive the tractor and the other to walk in front, chasing the sheep out of the way.
He’s so cute and fun, I love all his updates!
No pics to prove it, but I had my first “ride” on Pete today!! We were playing around with lining up and standing at the mounting block, and I was putting a leg over and leaning on him… I slithered too far and ended up on his back. He stood quietly, sniffing my boots. I sat for a few seconds and then nudged him with my legs and he walked off calmly. I hopped off after a few steps, but I got my first feel of him moving under me and got my first view through those cute little ears .
Today was an utterly craptastic day for other reasons, so thanks, Pete, for making it better.
Yay! That is a perfect first “ride”!
Thanks so much, @OnAMission!! I was so happy to see how he took it all in stride — hoping there won’t be too many fireworks in the process! (At least if there are fireworks, the ground isn’t that far away lol!)
Pete is doing a great job supervising the tractor work.
ps, he will be driving it next week on his own.
Love it. I told the story on the other thread, but one of my saddlebreds did that out of exasperation early in our partnership when I was taking too long to mount. He LITERALLY flipped his head around to either side, pointing at the stirrups with his nose like “girl, your foot goes in THERE”.
Love the intelligence of these breeds!
I fully expect that! I was holding him while chatting with the BO in the tractor… Pete was intensely sniffing it and staring at the engine… I expected him to say “excuse me, but has this thing been safetied recently?”
A few of the boarders where I have my horses will park their UTVs in the field with their horses. I always marvel at that. If I tried it with mine, they’d be taking it for a joy ride, and then come back and strip it for parts.
There’s a local Morgan breeder who posted years ago that she parked her lawn tractor in the arena with a couple of her fillies. They disassembled it. (seriously, you’d think a Morgan breeder would know better)
Oh goodness, he is so cute!
