My horrible experiences with Texas horse trainer/instructor Ellen Doughty-Hume

Curiously someone went poof!

Eventing212121, (ahem, Erin), I think perhaps that some might take you more seriously if you hadn’t insinuated that Stormy’s horse Bailey deserved to die because of karma. No matter your “position” in this argument, you stooped so low with such a disgusting suggestion that you should be able to discuss the inner workings of the earths core.

Please just stop while you’re…“ahead”.[/QUOTE]

Thank you. I dont give any person the time of day when they pull this. Horses are gifts to us and “forgetting” two horses in a flood is not even remotely acceptable. Also saying they were pasture boarded so it’s no big deal doesn’t help you any further.

I dont actually just read something and say wow about ten times in a row very often but today was the day. Step away from the Kool Aid and maybe put yourself in her shoes Erin.

Two of your horses drowned because some one forgot them. How do you forget horses??? Especially after they were not supposed to be there. Your horse colics and you give no notification? Would you be ok with that?

Also if someone freaking stripped my farm bare and then left a single bullet on the counter I would take it as a threat. She sounds like a sociopath.

If you are talking about me, I’m flattered you even noticed. I deleted my posts, won’t make the same mistake again! And my posts are still weird, can’t edit, and its getting REALLY ANNOYING to have this tech issue (still)

What a cray- thread! I’m going to get some more popcorn and go back to lurking… I have a feeling we aren’t done yet…

Merry Christmas everyone!

babecakes you have a PM.

Wait, who went poof?!

I can’t handle the comment about pasture board. My boarders who are on outdoor board are checked three times a day, blankets changed and have a full look over. They get the same care as the others. :frowning:

The bullet thing is scary as hell. When you have dealt with unstable people before you know how easily things can escalate. I don’t know if that is the case but that would be scary as hell to find regardless.

Erin Walker posted this on my FB page and asked me to share it here. I publicly apologize if I misidentified her earlier. I cannot go back and edit my post so this will have to do.

“I am sorry to write this in your wall but I am not friends with Stormy. I just got called out on the COTH and I am not a member. I did not even know it existed till yesterday. I said my piece the other day and tried to be as professional as I could. I am out of it as it only turned into a mud slinging match and I do not care to be involved. I do not appreciate being dragged into this again. I was done saying what I believe is true. I was not present for any of those things and I honestly did not know about most of them until reading the post. I do not make a habit of sticking my nose were it does not belong. It does not belong in this fight. I should have never posted the other day, but I do believe in Ellen and until I witness these things for myself I will continue to ride with her. Trust me am very picky about my horses and I care for them so I hope I don’t witness these things. I would appreciate if you would post this for me as I am not on COTH and I never plan to be. Thank you. Again I am sorry for all of Stormy’s losses and I would never wish all these things on anyone.”

As I said before, my issue is not with any of Ellen’s students or friends…

This will be my only post on this thread but have been following and will eat all my hats if eventing212121 is not an alter of Ellen herself aka texas trainer-

so do not feel too bad, flaxen.

My question about the flood was the barn manager who got fired, was it the 8 year old? Because that’s the only person with a plausible excuse for that oversight. That storm raged and changed directions for quite awhile. Long enough to remove horses from the field.

As for eventing212121. I have to say that Erin’s response on Facebook would be what a truly classy response can be and is well written and understandable. Everyone has to learn in their own way. Hell when my friend told me she was taking a lesson I said “I have not heard favorable things but everyone’s experience is different.” Of course it did not end well for her at all.

If itd an alter if Ellen well then she’s clearly more mentally disturbed than we thought. And as for the bullet on the counter? If I had been that individual I would’ve called the cops, said I felt it was a terrorist threat and file a no trespass order to have something on file.

I, too, was highly disturbed by that minor detail. I cannot imagine how that poster and her partner must have felt finding that on a counter. There’s no other way to call it, other than a threat. It’s not like that bullet tripped, fell, and landed on the counter on its own accord, accidentally.

Stormy it was really brave to stand up to this cretin. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas and your husband eventually finds a new trusted steed.

The victim blaming is really disgusting by some of you here.

It’s been a long time since I’ve been on COTH but this thread has really been eye opening.

It is very difficult to do the brave thing and do a PSA when you see or live through something so horrible. Most people do not want to get involved, knowing how ugly things can get even when they are telling the truth and doing what they feel is the right thing. Kudos to Stormy for taking that step.

Whoever posted something a few pages back about the bullying mentality is spot on. Sociopaths/Psychopaths are especially adept at their evil skill set. Those who have never dealt with Narcissistic Personality Disorders really don’t have the experience or background to know how to deal with these people.

As for the working student, I do think there is a bit of “Stockholme Syndrome” going on here. I was a working student for a short amount of time for an ULR. I have my own home and family as a support system. The younger WS or barn workers weren’t so lucky. They were totally dependent for housing, money and horse board on this ULR. Such an unequal shift in power is difficult in any situation, but if this person also suffers from a personality disorder, I can understand the “Stockholm Syndrome” effect. Bullying, intimidation, gas lighting are just some of the techniques used to keep these workers powerless.

As horse people, we tend to think of this as “business as usual”. The fact that we love horses and the lifestyle so much we are willing to overlook treatment that wouldn’t be tolerated anywhere else in our lives.

This is where we do need to make a difference and tell our stories if there is abuse or neglect. We owe it to our horses and our fellow horsemen.

Eventing212121,
I’m yet another person that knows neither the OP or EDH, but your post #176 has stuck with me and I want to share w you that what you typed comes across as offensive and rude. My sense is that you are young so I offer you this: when you are arguing or debating it is ill advised to throw in any description of your ‘opponents’ personal traits. Slinging a descriptive word regarding anyone’s sexual orientation says far more negative things about you than the person you’re trying to hurt.
I suggest that you apologize. You might feel better for it and trust me, you’ll appear the better for it.
I wish you well.

I am one of those dreadful COTH lurkers. I am usually here to learn, and read news. I did post a few times years ago under another name, which I can’t remember. This is hard, and it will probably result in back lash from the followers but here it goes, strength in numbers right?

I don’t know Stormy17, but I know EDH very well and have been on the receiving end of suspect behavior. I would like to apologize to Stormy for not coming forward and warning people about EDH. Maybe if I had, and other people had come forward she wouldn’t have been able to screw so many people over and put lives in danger. She would also not have so much power to manipulate, and blackmail people into keeping quiet. My story from some years ago, is small potatoes compared to Stormy’s, there were no horse deaths or injuries, just questionable training, and I can only put down a small part of the whole story (otherwise it would be a book). We got away lightly. My son (14) and daughter (10) took lessons with her, but we kept our horses at home.

This was some time ago, after EDH was kicked out of the first barn, she worked at…first red flag. The kids were with her about 18 months. We had older schoolmasters for the kids to ride, which was going okay, but when I bought a young, talented Irish sport horse mare for my son, is when it all started to fall apart. This mare was a jumping freak, and my son was pushed to jump her. Stupid me let it happen, I should have known better. There was nothing out there our lovely mare wouldn’t jump. Pretty soon, my son was out of control with no tools to slow her down. There was a pattern, every kid she taught and trained had problems cross country, out of control horses, and her only answer “rip his face off”, and a bigger bit. It took a friend telling me, you need to fire her, or your son is going to die, this is a dangerous sport. That was the difficult part, firing her, she had been known to send nasty emails/texts to customers who wanted to leave, even shouting matches with parents who wanted to withdraw their children, accusing them of being “immature”. She made it so it was hard to leave, so I can understand completely, why others remain with her, other than of course the people whom she has told are fabulous riders and continue to drink the “koolaid”. All I have seen at horse shows, is some very scary riding and kids who have no business out on cross country. And this is a common pattern, putting small kids on her two “upper level” horses, and making them jump 4’ or above grids, yeah been there done that with my young daughter. Yes people of the “koolaid” that is nothing new. There are several in my daughter’s group, and my son’s group who no longer ride. Confidences smashed, and screamed at and belittled in lessons.

I took the easy way out, I tried to leave without too much drama. No such luck. We needed to fix the non existent dressage for the highly explosive, at this stage, Irish mare. A friend of mine, who is a dressage instructor was trying to help my son with his mare, and who should come into the Willow Draw arena but EDH. Anybody who knows Willow Draw, knows their covered arena is large enough for at least two flat lessons to go on. EDH proceeded to ride straight into my son’s lesson, riding nearly over the top of his mare, of course she exploded and wouldn’t settle. I know people will say, you should have said something, I admit it I am a chicken, she is nasty and manipulative I didn’t want a shouting match.

I have witnessed her cruelty and again, didn’t say anything. I saw her continuously beat her (not yet) sister-in-law’s horse because he couldn’t manage a jumping grid she had set up (at Willow Draw). The beating went on all the way around the arena. I know I will be judged for not saying anything. So be it. Her sister-in-law was there, I don’t know if she was too afraid to say anything. I think I felt every heavy lash of that whip on that poor horse.

Concerning Pony Club, she was banned from Red River Region in 2008, when my children first joined, for having her dog on a “verbal leash” knowing full well, there was a grounds leash rule (Texas Rose Horse Park) and “no dogs in the barn areas during rally” rule. There were other infringements I was not party to, but she was banned by the Regional Supervisor at the time. In 2013 she was asked to return by an RS whose daughter rode with her. And subsequently her barn was made headquarters for Rockwall Pony Club.

There are quite a few horror stories I am a party to, but don’t concern me personally, so I cannot write those down. But I can say, very early on, a good friend nearly died when she was over faced at a show. She had trepidations going in to do her show jump round, but was told she would be fine. She left in a life flight helicopter that day. She lived but hasn’t ridden since.

Such horrible stories! Glad the word is getting out.

Wow. Ive heard a lot of these stories secondhand but it is crazy to see them all at once.

Who puts random 10-year-olds on their upper level horse and has them jump 4’? Her horses must be saints.

Chelseabun - thank you for posting this. I wish more parents would come forward to tell their stories. The more people that do the easier it becomes to believe all these stories - there are just too many with the same theme.
