My horrible experiences with Texas horse trainer/instructor Ellen Doughty-Hume
I’m not trying to defend EDH. Everyone that has, has been ripped to shreds. Yall are just here to throw shade at her, on the lows in her career. At least that’s what it’s turned into. Just bullies hiding behind a computer talking about the “biggest bully”. Oh yeah. On an ANONYMOUS forum.
Hey there CashEm! Angela (Grzywinski) Bowles here! I’m not going to comment on anything related to much in this particular thread but I would like to say I’m sorry that you aren’t a fan of my riding style. I will say that I have 4 main priorities in my eventing career (in no particular order)
1.) I want healthy happy horses
2.) I want happy safe students
3.) I want to work every day to be a better rider
4.) I want to do my best to live my life with integrity.

These are my personal priorities. I would however love to know who you are if you’d like to send me a message! I’d be willing to talk riding philosophy or even just hear what it is you don’t like about my riding. Please feel free to reach out. I’m on FB, have a website, and also am on here so happy to chat any time!

Actually no one has said anything about EDHs career.

Being a professional in the horse industry is about how you conduct yourself. How you treat your clients, past and present. How you treat others at shows and show officials. THOSE topics have been up for discussion. I would think that you could start a thread on “bad experiences” with any of the other professionals in the area, Angela included, and it would gain nothing near this response. As they say, where there’s smoke, there’s fire. It has been proven here, and on the FB thread, that a clear pattern of behavior exists. It is also obvious that EDH has provided answers and a response to her followers to help them to believe that all of these people are just crazy or have a personal vendetta against her. The problem is, these people have Nothing to gain at all. It takes guts to speak up and put yourself up for analysis by the Internet masses. So, if anything, they have something to lose. But, they feel strongly enough to say something. That speaks volumes.

Well, I know who I’ll be contacting if I ever move back to Texas! Those are my goals too!

And this is how a true professional conducts themselves. If I were in TX, I would certainly contact you for lessons as well- you’re goals and priorities align with my own.

I’m not sure why suddenly Angela’s been thrown into this mix. It’s not about her or her show record or her horse care. It doesn’t seem really fair to include her in any of this.

I agree, this has absolutely nothing to do with her (Angela). But new houseguest CashEm threw her into the mix by saying that she didn’t like her riding, or something to that effect when another member said that is with whom she rode. For someone to say that 87% of this thread is petty, CashEm seems to be bringing all of that themselves.

It’s my fault for recommending her (and a few other local trainers). It certainly wasn’t my intention to put a target on her!

Deflects from the real conversation…

Oh gotcha. I used to work at a local tack store so I’ve heard stories on everyone and what little I had heard of her (negatively) was something you could easily chalk up to just a differing of opinion. She seems to come from a place of gratitude and respect to her horses.

Ummm, Second Chance? In a thread that has discussed multiple people (okay, ANY thread!), could you please identify who you are trying to refer to with the feminine pronouns above? Angela? Ellen? Someone else?:confused:

It might be clearer in a spoken conversation, but generally, in any written format, it really makes more sense to the reader if the writer directly identifies the noun before resorting to a pronoun.:cool:

Just for the sake of clarity. Thank you!

Second Chance was referring to Angela

Numerous house guests and the obligatory ‘anonymous bullies hiding behind screen names’ post! Perhaps someone should direct EDH et al to the NP threads? So she (they?) can see where they’re headed with their behavior in this thread?

The thing is, as someone said earlier, most people speaking out against Ellen are extremely easy to figure out who they are. A quick Google search of my screen name will readily tell you who I am as I use this handle for pretty much everything. So, either by looking in the person’s signature line, googling their username, or cross referencing Stormy’s FB post with this one, there are very few, if any, “anonymous” people on this side.

The same cannot be said for people defending Ellen. With the exception of Ainsley, not a single person defending Ellen has put their name behind their post on this thread. That speaks almost as much as the manner in which they are defending her.

Agreed - although admittedly, i created an account for the sole purpose of weighing in here so technically I could be considered “anonymous”. But anyone who reads my first and second post on this thread can easily figure out who I am. Those of us speaking out are, not hiding. Nor are we bullying. We are merely stating the facts. The problem is - there is a much smaller group of people who don’t like what they’re hearing. That in and or itself it not bullying. It’s simply the truth.

And to the person who said we’re hiding behind anonymous screen names, please by all means feel free to reach out. Most of us have publicly added a comment to Stomy’s facebook post as well. And most of us will tell you exactly who we are.

That said, the most poignant facts are not whether nor not people are hiding behind screen names. That comment is nothing more than yet another diversion tactic. To those of you in the “diversion camp” I say this - most of you have posted over-exagerated and completely distorted account of the facts. I know this because, unlike many of you, I was there for much of it. I know these people personally. I saw what they went through. I, myself, went through it too.

Regardless of what you - or anyone else - may have been told - the overall CONSISTENT pattern of behavior should be deeply concerning when considered in its totality.

Any normal, rational person who looked at the situation, the facts, the history through an unbiased, untainted, open-minded lens would be deeply concerned.

The patterns represent a level of arrogance so great, that to ignore it would be an injustice to every person and every horse that has ever crossed paths with Ellen Doughty-Hume. It would be an injustice to the sport of eventing as a whole.

We all know that anyone in business, no matter how professional and above board will get along with everyone all the time. Part of being a professional is knowing how to get along with people and how to deal with folks who, for whatever reason, don’t click with you and your program. I believe this is one of the true tests of a professional as we all know there is a lot of truly cray cray out there.

Thanks Irish Willow. Sometimes I just assume there’s so much room in my cavernous head that everyone knows what I’m talkin’ about!

And not so anonymous that I didn’t get a personal email from EDH on my Facebook so… Before I was unfriended.

Apparently not that anonymous as well, she knew exactly who I was…unfriended and blocked.

Haha, yep. I was unfriended and blocked as well. I believe her clients have been instructed to do the same, bc they have also unfriended and blocked people. Also, apparently in previous times of trouble, EDH has instructed her clients to unfriend and/or block any adversaries, bc it would be “disloyal” to remain friends with them. It’s like the Church of Scientology over there, apparently. Lol.

Hope these clients see this red flag for what it is. If my trainer was wanting me to delete and block people on Facebook I would be a bit concerned.
