My horrible experiences with Texas horse trainer/instructor Ellen Doughty-Hume

Clicking links over a year later, I was surprised to see that she hadn’t updated her sponsor list.

In other (relevant) news, she’s putting up another row of stalls  Despite this thread being the second result for her name, business seems to be doing well for her.

We best keep bumping this thread then

Well, this thread provided some good reading for my 12 hour shift of “required to be at work but only allowed to respond to emergencies due to the government shutdown” aka - we have hours of down time since we can’t do “routine” work. So thanks for that. Props to the OP for speaking out, I’m horrified at all that has come out about this trainer.

That is utterly horrifying.

I am not much of a consumer or participant in social media, but a link to this post was recently posted on the Area VI Adult Riders FB page. I have binge read the 60+ pages over the last few days. Until now, I didn’t realize just how very, very lucky I’ve been over the years. My horses seem to be happy where they are boarded in a not very fancy barn with no resident trainers. Overall it is a fairly drama-free space where people pitch in to help each other out.

Stormy - my heartfelt condolences to you for all of the events that precipitated the creation of this post. They say things happen for a reason so KUDOS to you for giving voice to them. When I think of the impact you have had (and will continue to have), words to Rachel Platten’s Fight Song come to mind:

“Like a small boat on the ocean
Sending big waves into motion”

and

“I might have only one match
But I can make an explosion”

All of the best to you going forward.

perhaps more germane is that she sits on the board of this horse welfare related non-profit:

I’d forgotten all about this thread…till it was bumped up! Took me a while to catch up, but thank you for the entertainment on a frigid freezing cold day when there no hope of riding or any pony time outdoors! There is no end to some of the shady crap that goes on in the horse industry.

I get that if one spends enough time training with Ellen the worm will likely turn, but does anyone know why Erin Walker is named as a defendant in Ellen’s lawsuit against Stormy? Back in the earlier days of this thread a little over 2 years ago (post #239, p12), Erin was apparently on good terms with Ellen. Thanks for any help and explanations on the proceedings to date. I looked at the court record, but not being an attorney, it didn’t mean too much to me.

Like most psychopaths EDH can be very persuasive and will bad mouth all the trainers and people against her, that it seems like hers is the only voice of reason. Until you realize, wait a minute, why are there so many people saying negative things about her and have had horrible experiences concerning training and horse care. Also until Stormy decided to stand up to her, everybody was threatened and bullied into keeping silent. My experiences were very early in her career, and were small potatoes compared to Stormy’s and later owners/riders.

I’m not at all surprised that Erin has apparently “seen the light”, I was just curious if anyone had information on what specifically had made her into one of Ellen’s targets in the lawsuit. Pocket depth may have some influence I imagine.

So that things just don’t get swept under the rug and forgotten about. That can happen with lengthy drawn out court cases. It was a pretty quick bump, but probably starting to fall back in the pages which usually means things “go away”.

And she was on social media bragging about her weekend. People who threaten others with bullets and kill horses by neglect shouldn’t be out Eventing having a grand time.

Perhaps she witnessed some of the infamous abuse and neglect firsthand, or the horrible riding, or any number of atrocities mentioned. Thankfully she got out before her name was ruined (or so I assume, I’m not local).
