If you look a few posts before the yearling one on her Instagram there is a post about barn rats taking conformation shots and all of the horses have skinny upside down necks. So it’s not just a yearling thing. It’s a her barn thing.
Thought this thread was deserving of a bump, it’s never too often to bump this thread so people are aware of what EDH has done.
I was reminded of the thread because I am watching the livestream of AEC and EDH is there on a horse called “Breakin All The Rules”… Looks like a nice horse but who keeps giving this person nice animals to ride?! This one at least looks well fed…
The irony in that name is too much!
I don’t thijnk it’s irony. I think it’s “in your face”.
EDH brought horses to Meadowcreek show this weekend when she has an active strangles outbreak at her barn. She was removed from the premises last night after people found out and complained to the organizers.
good on those who spoke up! I hope no one has a horse that feels the consequence from potential infection
This! Totally this.
Thank goodness for those who were willing to say something.
That is just crazy, taking horses to a show when there is a strangles issue at your barn. Darn. People continue to amaze me.
Yep, I had a friend at that show that texted me about the situation. Craziness. Hoping my friend’s gelding wasn’t exposed to anything nasty!
We were there and only ended up staying because they were stabled far away and our horses had been vaccinated. We consulted with our vet and he was not concerned with the given situation since they were required to leave. About 1/3 of people left though and I don’t blame them. It created a lot of chaos & apparently no regard for horse welfare, you know the saying “the best predictor of future performance is past performance”
The disregard for horses and people shown by this person is unbelievable.
How sad for the venue.
I am curious, did she have some creative excuse of why she thought this was OK?
Truly not a horseman, horsewoman. No principles. Sure hope it bites her.
What are the odds she receives any sort of USEF discipline for this?
Does USEF discipline anyone for things like this?
I have no idea but would be interested to hear if anyone else does.
EV106 does say: “It is the responsibility of the competitor to know and comply with the local, state and interstate (where appropriate) health requirements for the shipment of horses.” Seems unlikely that this rule was obeyed?
I feel like that should be a general rule rather than a specific Eventing rule. I feel such a rule should apply to all horse show competitors and not be discipline specific.
A quick look at Texas state rules looks like Strangles is not a reportable disease. So while not best practice, it is possible Strangles does not fall under state law and movement restrictions. Perhaps there is someone in practice in Tx that knows different?
I agree! I searched the GR for “disease” and “infectious” and “communicable” and “health” and then I gave up. The only remotely relevant result was from GR846, which requires reporting by competitions, not competitors: “Competitions must report to the Chief Administrator of the Drugs & Medications Program, within 24 hours, any horse identified to Competition Management as showing symptoms of infectious disease, put into isolation at the competition, or that departs the competition to receive treatment for a potential infectious disease. BOD 6/22/20 Effective 12/1/20”
So they’d have to wait until a horse became symptomatic at the show. Rather like shutting the barn door after the horse has gone…
It’s not unreasonable to expect exhibitors to use good judgement, especially where communicable disease is concerned, without having to make a rule. I suppose there always is that someone who has no concern for others.
This is a selfish, awful thing to do but I don’t think it violates USEF rules.
