Was this even a USEF show, or was it schooling?
Yet another on my long list of reasons of why I would never live in Texas. (Sorry to all nice, sensible COTHers in TX).
It was a schooling show, but she was at Texas Rose (USEA) 2 weeks ago, I’m not privy to the exact details of when the outbreak started but I know quarantine is longer than 2 weeks. I am writing a letter to whoever I can, if enough people say something hopefully it won’t get brushed under the rug, but I am just a LL nobody so I’m sure it will fall on deaf ears.
Fiesta, as a TX resident - I don’t blame you, even I don’t want to live here.
Ah, oops, didn’t realize this. I think the question of whether someone could be disciplined for this at a USEF show is still interesting though.
A barn local to me had a strangles outbreak years ago. They immediately went into quarantine, called all the neighboring barns and informed them, shut down their whole operation until they were cleared by a vet and had boot wash stations with disinfectant set up as you left the barn.
You know, like responsible horse people. I just.can’t.fathom going to a show, any show, when you have active strangles outbreak.
It has always bothered me that schooling shows are not taken seriously in that aspect. Schooling shows should be about low key practice, and people shouldn’t be able to avoid repercussions for things that affect horse welfare. For example riding dangerously isn’t reportable because “it’s a schooling show” when those are the same fences at USEA shows. You shouldn’t be able to avoid consequences for any variety of horse welfare violations just because it’s a schooling show & EDH shouldn’t be able to get away with endangering the welfare of 60 other horses on a technicality.
Agree! Some SS entry forms or prize lists say that USEF rules will be followed (though obviously without the USEF enforcement mechanisms). Schooling show organizers could certainly ban violators from future shows.
She is still teaching at the Pony Club too, is she not? Surely they would have issue with this…
There is more than one schooling show organization that may have that show on their list. I do not know if, under their own rules, they would have the authority not to allow her to show anywhere they sanction the show – or if they can’t control that, just disallow points for her horses.
Although it is probably even more on her students and horse owner clients. They may also have accountability for allowing their horse to go to a show when coming from an outbreak barn. I actually think they should be taken to task in equal measure. They are responsible for their own actions and decisions. If the schooling show org chooses to take action.
I agree with you on this thought. Then I start to wonder, if you (general) have a trainer like this, are you being told things that put in you bad situations like this one? I would guess all those people were told by their trainer that there is no reason to stay home, their horses are fine so there is no problem with going, etc.
I looked at the entries for that event, and I saw three horses with EDH’s name on their stabling assignments. Don’t know if they were actually her horses or student’s horses.
Entirely hypothetically: Yes. They are.
Hypothetically: In such a situation, there are barriers to outside information. So if there is an organizational reason to intervene with them as individuals, not just as a part of the trainer’s collective, hopefully that opportunity is not wasted.
I hope being kicked out of a show at 10pm raises some kind of red flags for those students/horse owners/parents, but who knows what they’re being told.
When someone else’s actions start to infringe on my horse living their best and most healthy life, I’m going to make noise. I haven’t and will not forget.
We can but hope. Many moons ago my kids rode with her, I remember turning up at shows and feeling a complete outsider, people avoided us. I would be so embarrassed turning up at shows with her. At a recent schooling show, she had quite a crowd of students, they must not use google.
It’s amazing how often this thread gets bumped with horror stories, and this woman still has people riding with her.
I realize COTH is not terribly public and rather anonymous in some ways, but still.
Not a commentary on those who unfortunately rode with her and got burned, btw, there are many barns in my own area on a much smaller scale I still can’t believe are in business.
I pointed someone to this thread recently.
She was posting on Fb looking for lesson horses. A friend replied and I sent the friend a pm with this link.
keep bumping it!
If you google her name - This thread is the 4th thing down
But what was it!!! A new story???
I happened to see it and it was the most recent story already discussed upthread…
