My horrible experiences with Texas horse trainer/instructor Ellen Doughty-Hume

I suppose some of you have seen the article in The Paulick Report about EDH and her 8yo OTTB competing at Kentucky Three Day.

https://paulickreport.com/horse-care-category/breakin-all-the-rules-spicy-louisiana-bred-ottb-ready-to-tackle-her-first-kentucky-three-day/

The Facebook commenters are pulling no punches. They’re no-holds-barred brutal, which I have no problem with at all.

I just added my vomit comment. Short but effective I hope

The report was cross posted to one of the OTTB pages where comments were VERY descriptive but when I went back they had been deleted. EDH got after me once for referring people to this thread. Anyone know why she was eliminated today?

Her horse had run-outs/stops along the way, so she finally pulled up.

She didn’t pull up. She was eliminated for refusals.

Where are the comments :eyes:

The comments are on Paulick Report’s FB page. Unless EDH pitched a fit and had them deleted.

The Paulick Report got rid of the comments section on its site; they got tired of policing it. As usual, a few bad actors ruined it for everyone.

You made my day with some Clarkson!

It would require a letter to the editor, with some proof of abused horses attached, to get Paulick’s attention.

Which might be possible in this case. Especially with cooperation from key parties. Are attachments and links from several years ago still available in this thread?

If you can get the right material and research to Paulick, there is a chance that he follows up. From time to time he has done so with other systematic abusers.

So much of what you say is true about the mind games trainers play. Good for the owner who pulled her horse out from under an abusive trainer.

Agree. I’ve seen talented people (not that I’m saying the trainer the OP mentions is one) get greedy and start shady business practices. They always seem to find a new group of people to bluff. One of the most talented trainers I knew starting cheating clients, neglecting her horses (unless they were her show horses) and was abusive to her riders. Fast forward 30 years and she died alone with the only vultures who wanted her run-down farm around her.

I just want to bump up this thread a bit more, because EDH is a cancer and everyone should know it.

Is Stormy still eventing?

I still refer people to this thread. After I was accosted by EDH on FB on a person looking for an eventing trainer in Dallas, I now simply warn them by PM with this link.

Definitely not out of horses…

She definitely still owns at least one horse, based on her IG.

As I understand it, she still has her horses, but got out of eventing because she had been competing under another name, but once her public profile skyrocketed, everyone recognized her and she couldn’t compete without people pestering her about “the thing” etc.

It’s too bad.

I was just telling my DH about this thread, and was happy to see it back up.

I was impressed when it started with how intelligent and articulate she was on this thread, and then later, in interviews.
Best of luck to Stormy and her horses, definitely TeamStormy here too.

And I hope that trainer gets what she deserves.

Read her book. It focuses on her entire life as an autobiography.

It is not about the whole Trump situation until the last part. And then it is about her end of it, not the entire public drama.

It is a fascinating real-life picture of growing up as a true survivor through very problematic circumstances. Someone who didn’t just survive, but who grabbed hold of circumstances and found ways to thrive and build. And bring others with her.

She is a remarkable person.
