I don’t think so, I was volunteering & I know the TD was called to talk to her, I saw her after that but the incident was also in one of the last divisions of the day.
I wouldn’t accept her entry if I were in charge.
Actually there are rules about that. I don’t think organizers have the option to not-accept entries for a recognized event, which this was.
I don’t have the details about these rules – but trust me, TX organizers have looked into them closely.
Yep, and for clarity, she was on the ground, not riding the horse while beating it. I think her student fell off in SJ warm up and she was ‘reprimanding’ it. I wish the TD had kicked her out, but I’m not sure how the rules differ to apply when you’re beating the horse from the ground, or if the TD did report it to the USEA in some capacity.
Makes you wonder how she treats horses at home when she’s so comfortable beating a horse with an audience at a rated show.
How does this POS woman get away with all of this? Mystifying and infuriating.
She left a dead horse in a field at a facility where she had paying boarders.
Remind me where we thought she cared that much at all.
Em
It’s wild to me that this thread is still going… I remember when it first started. I guess it goes to show that you can be really really awful, and still somehow keep a business going. Scary.
I did actually briefly lesson with EDH many years ago (before this thread), but it was in a limited capacity and I wasn’t around long enough to see anything crazy. I rode a school horse, so I basically just showed up, groomed/tacked, rode in the lesson, then untacked/groomed, put the horse away, and left. The lessons themselves went well for the most part and I felt like I learned some things (in general the jump lessons were more productive and dressage lessons were less productive), but after following this thread and also hearing things through word-of-mouth, there’s no way in hell I would touch her business with a 10 foot pole these days.
When there’s this much smoke, there’s got to be fire somewhere.
It was sarcasm, we all know how she treats horses at home. Also, isn’t the first time she’s publicly abused a horse at a rated show.
Wow! I am glad I found this thread (and dodged a bullet)
My daughter was spending a lot of time “working” up at Ellen’s barn and I started to hear all of the crazy stories and drama that was occurring up there.
I knew that something was up when I realized that all of these kids were laboring around the barn from sun up until sun down - mostly taking care of Ellen’s personal horses (and cleaning our her cars, camper, etc.) and then witnessing Ellen berating and disciplining these kids like they are paid adult employees. I get it, the kids love to work the horses… but the lack of respect that Ellen demonstrated to her client’s blew my mind. As time went on we realized that she treated her employees just as bad and watched them come and go, a new employee every few months it seemed; each time Ellen would post an excuse on Facebook about why they left.
Recently, the amount of “incidents” started to rise once again. Issues with bad feed making horses sick (Ellen switched to a different feed that the kids reported was “powdery” and “smelled funny”), major dog attacks (recently two of Ellen’s pit bulls brought down a horse in it’s run), gates being left open and horses getting onto the major highway and getting injured, damaging cars & street signs, etc.; and even a horse 'breaking its neck" (how does that happen?)
All of her employees and several of her boarders have left the barn over the past month. My concern is that (somehow) she continues to do business, putting animals, children, and employees at risk daily. Meanwhile, selfishly using that barn’s revenue to support her own horses, continue to pursue her washed-up career as an eventer, and fund her alcoholism.
We have moved on and are now working on breaking some bad (unsafe) habits that my daughter picked up while spending time with Ellen. Hopefully, she will eventually be pushed out and someone else can take over Rockwall Hills and run it like a legitimate business. It has so much potential for greatness - but Ellen remains. so… good luck
Yikes! I’m glad you got out of there.
I’m so glad you’re out of there and your post reminded me of why I like to bump this thread up every so often. I haven’t done so in awhile, but I’ll try to remember.
We removed some recent posts (and responses to them) that appear to be unsubstantiated and/or personal in nature.
After recent events, I was shown this page.
The amount of havoc running rampant at this facility is unnerving. Ellen continues to get away with murder;
Starting with animal control, how does Ellen continue to get away with countless infractions? Is she bribing animal control? One of her dogs attacked a boarders horse, Ellen in turn waited hours to inform the owners and did not take the horse to the vet. She still has this dog!
Speaking of dogs, her dogs run wild on the property! I have seen a small tan one and gray spotted dog chasing and not allowing people onto the farm without intervention from Ellen and her employees. How are our children suppose to be safe on this property?
Not only when you enter the property are you in danger of the multiple dogs, but the entire facility smells of sewage. It is evident when I stepped on a piece of soiled toilet tissue that the sewage is leaking on that property. Do we smell biohazard?? No pun intended!
There’s many topics that I could highlight here, but one of the fellow parents pointed the plethora of issues out above. I will touch on the fact that she cannot keep any employees around. Since we started there I have seen people come and go more than any facility I have been at as a child and now when my child is riding. It’s clear there is something wrong there!
I heard rumors when I first started and shrugged them off, as Ellen is super kind and welcoming when you arrive and promises you all the best. My daughter had a lot of friends at this facility so when issues started popping up, I tried to push them to the back of my mind, for her.
In light of most recent events, horses are loose more often than not, Ellen has a new boyfriend who she’s allowing to run her business into the ground. While we’re on this topic; Matt has countless drug records, he’s already ruined multiple of his own businesses (just a quick Google search will suffice) [edit]. This is who we’re leaving our kids around?!?! Please, I urge you to do your research prior to taking your little one to this facility. Not only will it eventually turn sour, but you will have to explain to your kiddo why their happy place has been taken from them!
I just did a Google search …
If there’s a sewage leak, presumably that should be reported to the local health department. Even if it’s not an area that the public routinely accesses (not sure if a boarding/lesson barn would be considered public access), that’s still a hazard for contaminating ground water and the soil, so I would think the county would need to monitor clean-up efforts.
Anyone can say anything on the internet but that doesn’t make it true. If he’s a documented felon, post the legal records of his conviction, not some random “complaint board”.
Seems like this poster has more of a problem with this man than the subject of this thread. For those that were not privy about 10 posts already went poof regarding Ellen’s supposed boyfriend. Deleted by the mod.
Umm wrong. I simply googled his name as the prior poster suggested.
Why don’t you investigate yourself?
Look him up on truthfinder. I have nothing against this man. I’ve never met him. But he does have a criminal record .
I have no need to Google. Ellen’s reputation and documented deeds are enough for me. I do not care who she associates with. You’re losing the plot. This is a horse forum. We understand what she’s done. Additional details might be significant but they’re really unnecessary to make anyone believe she is a monster. And your deleted posts were regarding said man sleeping without his shirt with a bed full of her large dogs. 🤷
