My horrible experiences with Texas horse trainer/instructor Ellen Doughty-Hume

I have an official copy of Matt’s arrest records from the Texas DPS and am trying to upload it but it keeps saying “new users can’t upload documents”. Bottom line, he was arrested on multiple drug related accounts that resulted in charges of 1st, 2nd, and 3rd degree felonies, along with some misdemeanors. He plead guilty to reduce his sentence and ultimately was given 8 years probation and hefty fines. In 2020 he was charged with assault in a domestic violence case, which he also plead guilty to.

He recently posted on his personal facebook page that “certain individuals are attempting to tarnish my girlfriend’s and my business by spreading false accusations about my past”. Well first of all, Ellen’s name and business have been tarnished for years… and secondly, they have been dating less than a year so I find it funny that he considers it “his” business. But that is besides the point! He claims in his post that his roommate was selling steroids from his house (without his knowledge of course) and he was personally charged because he owned the house. He also states that he was NOT convicted and pleaded no contest and charges dropped. Well… the official police records I have show that he plead guilty, was charged, spent some time in jail but ultimately was released with fines and probation. That, my friends, IS a conviction. You can’t plead guilty to something and it “be dismissed”. And that is what Ellen has hanging around our children. It’s sickening to say the least.

That’s funny! Both of their reputations are horrible. This site going back years and hundreds of examples of her atrocious behavior. just imagine what’s not posted!! I’m SURE there’s a lot more.

PS- I believe it says he served 8 years probation. That doesn’t happen unless you were convicted!

The nature of addiction is that they lie and claim they aren’t doing it and remember It’s always everyone else’s fault but their own. Look at the sad story of the Friends actor.

I agree people need to know what kind of people their kids are potentially being exposed to. An earlier poster said Matts nephew works at the barn now and speaks openly of he and Matt doing lines of cocaine together. If that’s true it’s insane to have your kids around that!!

Yes, Keegan is his nephew and has told many clients at RHEC that him and Matt have done lots of drugs together and Matt ALWAYS looks like he’s on something. Rumor is he is addicted to xanax, and I know Ellen has been known to ask around trying to find him some before when she “accidentally forgot to bring his”.

What would you like to know? Ellen and Matt were out of town when this last incident happened. They both openly admit to Matt leaving the gate open, but in the same breath are claiming the barn manager (BM) at the time and her boyfriend (the farrier) intentionally let the horses out to “ruin Ellen’s life”. Not one person who knows BM would EVER believe she would intentionally hurt any of the horses. In fact, she is the only reason several clients stuck around for so long. She is the only one who took care of the horses and was reliable and capable. She bent over backwards for Ellen who in turn, treated her like crap over and over.

Ellen called BM around 5am that morning and said the horses were out. BM and her boyfriend went to figure out what was going on and found 5-6 horses waiting at the gate breathing heavily, out of breath, panting, sweating like crazy, and one seriously injured and bleeding profusely. These horses had somehow made their way back into the pasture after going on their excursion. I have personally spoken with Rockwall PD (and have a copy of the police report) and they said they chased the horses up and down the highway trying to “corral” them. Eek. The police report states a trucker is the one who originally called it in, so they were also chased by an 18 wheeler. After taking a quick headcount, BM realized 2 horses were still missing and went off to find them. Tracked them down on foot 2+ miles away! Once she got them back home safely and looked over all the horses involved, she had to take the injured horse to the vet. Luckily, there was only 1 injured horse and the rest had just minor cuts and scrapes and did not require vet attention. After she returned from the vet clinic she quit.

Was the BM Summer or Katia? Obviously they’ve had a huge falling out. Ellen goes through employees like toilet paper.

It’s unfortunate that she’s back on the instructor list when she’s made some really concerning calls. At some point, it seems like people will have to make decisions about what they’re okay with rather than relying on “an authority” to tell them what’s right and what’s wrong. I have some experiences with being hoodwinked by unscrupulous trainers when I was a child. I wish my parents had listened to their instincts and removed me from those programs rather than staying in them because “AHSA” said they were good trainers.

You keep posting with the name and the facility name IN THE TITLE so that goggle searches pick it up. Post on Texas state barn searches and trainer names.

Agreed. However …

Not completely sure, but it’s possible that the OP hasn’t interacted on COTH in years. The original post was made in Dec. 2016 (7 years ago) (and I think it has been edited since, although the original might possibly have been copied into another poster’s post somewhere). Her last post was about 8 months after that, as far as I can tell.

The OP has been a little bit busy since then.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to alert every person who needs to know. It is up to the parents/guardians to do their research. Some do this better than others, as we know.

I’m sure there will be some knowledgeable suggestions for getting the word out on social media. Haven’t done that in some time, others will know more.
