It was a dare/demand to directly provide the criminal history of three employees.
I thought that the information was posted above?
I’ve been following this since the start and I just hope that when people search, they find the information posted on the thread.
In no way should children, adults, or horses be subjected to EDH. I had a non horsey mother and before Google/social media was prevalent, I had not a great experience with a trainer as a teen.
I hope that people see this thread and avoid her and her barn like the plague. She is preying on the new, the uneducated, and the unconnected. The facade, well I admit is pretty in pictures, hides a rotting business with poor choices both in staffing and horse management.
Maybe that is why it was suddenly deleted? Someone started in the thread and was going to try to throw down the gauntlet before they realized there were receipts and backed out?
That was the way it felt. Like someone was going to start issuing demands and threats.
I love when that happens on COTH.
I deleted it because I was going to add to the original comment and got sidetracked. I commented that i would pay to see the criminal record for the 3 new employees. I didn’t realize it could be edited.
The names and criminal records of the employees running the camp are listed above?? I must have missed it!!
Just what this thread needed to be revived again, a houseguest
Sometimes reading the whole thread is helpful, and even an eyeful in this case.
I’m currently working on that…
House guests never seem to realize it’s not a good thing to do, but here we are.
But this is a new houseguest, not like the ones posting back in 2017. Can tell because this houseguest does not seem to be an apologist like the others. So, maybe some new info!
Toured the barn and talked to the assistant trainer about moving there, decided to do research before making a decision and found this gem of a thread. Really peaked my interest when I saw the comment with her Facebook post that said she probably has a serious criminal record.
Read through the entirety of this thread finally, definitely a lot to take in. I’m glad that I saw all of this, the assistant trainer definitely didn’t come off like someone who was like what is in this thread. Dodged a bullet.
So glad this thread was able to save you from stepping into that mess.
It’s good to see this has been bumped up again. Given the length of time and amount of personally witnessed information on this thread, it is disturbing that she has been added back to the ‘official’ list of trainers. I would think the USEA would be cognizant that they could be partially responsible by ‘recommending’ her as a trainer should something happen to an animal, or A CHILD. A lot of folks looking for trainers are new to the sport and will rely on the governing body to provide names of trainers who will ensure the safety of children and are responsible, competent, moral and ethical. It is horrendous to think what this says about the USEA.
The thing is, newbies and parents who don’t know the sport place great reliance on those who they see as active in the sport, and as an authority in the sport.
They rely on USEA information. The USEA conveys a sense of trust. Maybe once some people see a name on a USEA list, they don’t dig into the background search, or not as diligently.
And, people rely on their expert, their trainer. As a parent has said, “We don’t know the way to do things. We believe what the trainer tells us.”
The gp has a very limited scope to truly background search anyone, anyway. How many people truly know how to do a background search? Or even what they should be looking for?
There used to be online search services that did a passable job, for a fee. Those are no longer available to the general public. Plus, to do some types of searches, you have to have the person’s social security number, their signed permission, and the search is limited based on the specific purpose (housing, credit, etc.). I’m fairly certain that only law enforcement has access to unrestricted information searches without someone’s permission and SSN.
In the U.S. there is no centralized database of all records that are available to the public, such as court records and arrest records. Those records are often kept on a county or municipal basis. Different jurisdictions have different computer systems. If someone has lived in multiple states or even multiple counties, the search becomes more and more complex.
For a plethora of reasons ranging from privacy to thousands of separate computer record systems, it is harder now for an average citizen to do a background search than it was even a decade ago.
Anyway … a long explanation of why having a name on a list published by the USEA can matter a great deal to establishing one’s credibility, as it is hard for the gp to learn more about someone.
Stormy & COTH are featured on WaPo today. Gift link below. May Ellen Doughty no longer be able to harm others after this case - or at least not nearly as many.
The link kept covering up the story to a sign in page. Is the court case settled? Did Stormy win?
You can close the sign-in pop up page by clicking the x in the upper right corner. At least that worked for me.
No, the case hasn’t settled yet and they mention this thread a fair bit in the article.
Thanks!
edit Well darn that doesn’t work, but thanks for the gist of it.
