My horrible experiences with Texas horse trainer/instructor Ellen Doughty-Hume

And now there’s talk of a book

What an incredible, disgusting travesty.
No fair trial in Texas for the woman who had the courage to stand up to HRH.
And a horse abuser gets rewarded.

Wow this made zero sense to me until I saw a comment mentioning the maga of it all. Not trying to get political but reason # infinity that I don’t say a word to anyone one about anything around here.

Is this Texas ? If so. Understandable. And gross

Did Ms. Conrad mean to write that Stormy & Erin’s claims were refuted (disproven) or that they were ignored by the jury?

From where I sit, in the cheap seats, it appears their claims had basis in fact and the jury simply turned their heads.

I don’t have access to the info - did Ms. Walker’s dressage scores drop while being trained by Ellen (surname du jour)? It certainly sounds like it.

As for USEA - as a non-member I can loudly state that they SUCK. They ASKED FOR someone’s experience then shared the name so they wouldn’t be named in a lawsuit? What craven cowardice. They can ban me for life as I have no interest in being a member.

I think that she didn’t mean “refuted,” but that the claims were disregarded by the jury.

Oh good, I was hoping that was her intention but she simply lit upon the wrong word. I mean, that’s what it sounded like to me but I wanted to make certain.

Thank you!

This is so incredibly disappointing to hear.

Incredibly saddened for Stormy, all of the other clients whose horses were hurt, and the impact this is going to have on stifling voices of other people speaking up against abuse in this industry.

That’s… wow.

Wow.

I know very little about how lawsuits work and such but regardless of what did or didn’t happen with dressage scores and treatment of horses … a $2 million award in her favor because someone told the USEA she’s not good at her job and another person said bad things about her on the internet? That seems like a bit much.

I agree. It seems completely nuts!

Can Stormy appeal this?

Not going to be a popular answer….

She can try, but unless she can prove gross violation of procedure she’s not going to get the jury decision overturned. At best she might get the award reduced.

There is some lawyering going on behind that award, for sure. I don’t know any details, though.

This makes me sick to my stomach with rage.

It would appear that in this day and age, justice is never done :rage::disappointed:

Up is down and down is up. And the big losers in this are the horses.

Does anyone know the amount that stormy owes now on judgements? I looked and saw some under appeal and other things etc , but can’t find the amount she actually owes as of now

As of last year, she reportedly owed 600,000. It was related to legal fees.

She was worried about losing her house.

I doubt Ellen will ever get any money from this judgment.
