my Ovations are dying...please help

My beloved Ovation breeches are dying.

My wish list:

sturdy and machine washable

under $200, closer to $100

higher in the waist

comes in 34L

no fancy piping

please, no tights

Nothing fits me perfectly. I have square hips so some breeches that fit me around the waist are baggy in the legs (not my Ovations ). I have some Pikeurs that are too loose in the legs, but I love the quality.

I love my local tack stores, but they never have my size in anything so I pretty much have to shop online.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Have you tried Smartpak Hadleys? I find the Ovations Celebrity Slims and Hadleys fit, at least on me, comparably. And they go on sale all the time!

I guess I should also say that I tried buying the same mid-rise Ovation breeches recently and they were too low cut and so cheaply made.

second the hadleys

Have you tried the Pipers compared to Ovation and Hadleys? I love my Ovation breeches and tried Pipers but they did not fit at all. I’d keep my eye out for a good deal on Hadleys if you think the fit is closer (and if Smartpak still does free returns on sized items).

Check out Romfh Champions–I just found a lightly used pair on Facebook and I really like the fit! They’re mid-rise, don’t gap in the back, are flattering on my currently carrying-some-extra-weight body, and the material is high quality.

Which Ovation breeches are they? Amazon and Ebay have a variety of them in old styles. I love mine too-- I have the original slim secret ones. Good fit for those of us who aren’t, well, stick thin 16 year old girls!

If you like the original slim secret ones, you would probably like the Hadleys. They do fit differently (better IMO) than the Pipers. I was constantly pulling the waist of my Pipers up, but the Hadleys stay put and are a more comfortable fabric than the Pipers. In fact I sold all my Pipers on FB and replaced them all with Hadleys!

They are side zip stretch twill fabric. They were on sale for $40 a pair when I bought them. Another pair is like the Celebrity. They might be salvageable if I can get the zipper replaced. It comes down while I ride.

It’s the size that’s the problem. There aren’t a lot of 34L out there.

Riding Warehouse has some Fits Pippa in my size on sale, but they only come in tan.

The Hadleys fit better than the Pipers, at least on my body. The material is nicer too!

Just checked eBay and may I point out that nothing looks more terrible on a hanger than a pair of used breeches.

I’m trying the Hadleys.

I’m also a Hadley fan as well as the RJ Classic Prestige. I find they fit comparably & Riding Warehouse still has them on sale! https://www.ridingwarehouse.com/RJ_C…page-RJPG.html

The fit on Smartpak piper breech is awful. Not a fan at all.

Hadley’s!!! The material is magical.

Pipers never fit me. I have yet to try the ovations.

I really like those kerrit cross over tights too (I know you said no tights)

I gotta have mid-rise breeches, that to over my belly button and all the extra fat I carry on my sides. The Hadley’s have washed well and I’m hard on my breeches.

Hadleys are way better than Pipers, at least IMHO. Nicer fabric, different cut, no piping.

I prefer the Romfh Serafinas to the Hadleys.

Noting that the Romfh Serafinas can be had for under $100 in some sizes and colors -

Romfh Champions are my new favorite breeches and I’ve tried EVERYTHING. It’s hard to find them in a euro seat (the full seats are everywhere but I’m assuming you want knee patch) but I found some at my local tack shop last night and am obsessed with them already. The price point is great and they apparently wear like iron. Good luck!

ETA: It seems like finding a 34L is the problem for sure…I can’t seem to find any Champions in that size (plenty of 34’s but no longs!) Maybe ebay?

Sadly, the Hadleys fit badly. The Fits are shipping separately so I hope I have better luck with those.

If not, I’ll try the Romfh.

I’m sorry, OP that the Hadleys didn’t work for you! What about the fit was off? I really think you’d like the Romfh Champions but I can’t find them in a 34L anywhere. No chance you could do a regular 34?

They were just a tad too tight. I could tell the next size up would have been too large. They fit great everywhere but the waist.

It depends on the cut, but I’m 5’9ā€Ā with a long femur, so the knee patch is too high on most 34s. I do try them on when I’m shopping just to see if they fit, and then I can order a 34L online somewhere, but that’s usually the issue.

Gotcha. Yeah, the Hadleys were a tad too tight in my waist too. I’m also 5’9" so I feel your pain in having to wear longs. You might try the Horze Grand Prix breeches. They were long enough for me in the regular size and fit me great in the waist. I hope you find your holy grail! Breeches shopping is almost as bad as bikini shopping.
