Name that horse! She's here!! Post #45

I have been accepted as a trainer for the Extreme Mustang Makeover and will be picking up my horse in 2 weeks. I know nothing about the horse that will be assigned to me, except that it is a 5 year old mare.
At this point I am just looking for ideas, and will of course wait until I see her and get to know her a bit before picking a definite name.
My aim is to find a good home for said horse at the end of the competition, so I am looking for a name that:

  • will be appealing to both men and women
  • has a cool sound and is meaningful
  • is easy to remember, but not too common

Think of it as an added way to market the horse to potential buyers at the auction.

Looking for “show name” type, 2 to 3 words.

Have fun with it and thanks in advance for all the ideas. I will update with photos as soon as I get the horse!

Just don’t name her Sally.

Range Rover

Lady be good

Kiss me kate

I really, really like Range Rover

But I have to say, most horses come with their own name, which they reveal to you upon meeting them, or in the first day or two. It really is jumping the gun to make a name up for a horse you haven’t met. Oh, I just re read, its for her show name. In that case

Range Rover.

Oh come on, I was coming here just to say that they should name her Sally!!!

yes, I am not naming her yet, just gathering ideas…

Names of French origin would be great too.

Tout de Suite - in French “immediately”, but sounds like “Too Sweet” to American ears. Can call her “Tooty” for short.

(P.S. - My BO is training a mustang for this year’s Extreme Makover in Virginia. His nephew and another youngster are working with Mustang yearlings.)

I’ve always liked the names Daisy Jane and Maggie May…

Everyone does and they all think it is sooooo original  just like so many people have brought me a dog with a name pronounced Deogie and spelled D.O.G. and think it is soooo original. (I’m a small animal vet)

Actually I have one : Cadillac Desert

no name suggestions but good for you and GOOD LUCK! please keep us regularly updated

Thank you beowulf!

And keep the names coming everyone.

I do think I want to go with something french (as that is where I am from and sets me apart a bit) but it has to be easy to pronounce and easy to remember.

Well-- I would call her Morisot, after the female French Impressionist Berthe Morisot.

And then you could call her Betty or Bertie or Berta or Bertha for a barn name, depending on how she strikes you.

“Morisot” is kind of classy, and French, and unique. Plus she was a classy woman and so very talented. And a bit of a feminist ahead of her time. Especially nice if pronounced like “MOHR - ee - SO”, which I think is correct? Or “Morris-OH”, if somewhat Westernized.

The downside is that almost everyone in the U.S. will read and say it as “Morris- AHT” which is okay too, but not as classy sounding as Morris-OH.

Good luck, I adopted and gentled a Mustang several years ago and it was a wonderful experience in every way.

French?
Josephine of course!

or Notre Dame

I used to have GRAND ideas to name horses…like, in middle school…Now I would settle for ‘horse’ or ‘dog’.

The critter has to speak to me, the last animal that had a name before I owned it was the parakeet I got first. I knew he was gonna be Rico.

Lady Lafayette.

Best horse I ever owned was a Sally. Hmmm, French names…Camembert if the color is right, or Chablis.Or maybe Brittany in lieu of Bretagne.

You’re in CO and she is bay…Unsinkable Molly Brown!

Umm, jusr re-read and apparently I made up that she is Bay. I’m crazy like that

If she is chestnut, I like Red Rocks.

If she is grey, I am in love with Humboldt Fog right now. I just tried it the other day for the first time, and I may have a problem, as it retails here for $30/lb!!!
