Navy field boots

Tax refund season is approaching and I’m on the hunt for a new pair of boots. I just love my navy leather Charles Owen helmet and am considering a pair of DeNiro boots in navy to match. I’d pair with navy gloves, navy belt, tan breeches and a white polo. I spend 80% of my time in the jumper ring (both rated and schooling) along with some eventing and dressage if the mood strikes. The only time I would be in the hunter ring would be in a baby green class on a youngster. I have a black pair of Ariats that are more than serviceable if need be.

Will I look foolish or awesome?
Could I wear in the jumper classics? If so, what color coat? More navy?

Thoughts?

I can completely understand the desire for something a little different than black … but … I would hesitate to wear anything that detracts from your riding. I believe you will be fine in the jumper classics with navy boots, provided you wear white breeches. The jacket can be navy as well, but depending on the shade you might have difficulty matching it to your boots. Personally, I would stick with black, but its your money and you should do what makes you happy.

Maybe get black boots with blue piping at the top. My trainer got some lovely custom boots with red piping at the top and it looks great. It is subtle, but adds a little something extra.

I agree that an accent in a color will look much better than boots entirely in a strange color.

^^^^ agree. Is there a picture of these blue boots? Boots are a huge financial investment. If you have the funds, certainly get what you want…it may just be a passing fancy.

These are the boots.

Thanks for the feedback!

To me those don’t look navy, they just looks worn?! I know they are navy but my eye expects to see black and sees that as lighter so worn?!

For what it is worth, I think they look kinda cool.

Yeah me too, they look tired and faded. I would stick with a more traditional black boot with maybe a tiny bit of accent. A friend has the top of the boot trimmed in black alligator, which is very elegant. And considering the new rules for jumper riders, I would hesitate to make such a financial investment in something that may not be allowed at some point in the future.

You will need to be one great rider to pull this off. It can be done, but not unless you’re pretty flawless in most every way. And young. So unless…

I would look quite gauche in them myself, as with any other non-traditional look outside of a pure classic. You on the other hand may be quite different.

Seriously? No judge will notice or care and clearly there is no one to judge your attire in the jumper ring. As long as you can handle some catty comments from other riders… Go ahead and do what makes you happy.

I have these at the local tack shop, I love them. If you just want them for jumpers I say get them!

They look a bit flat in the photo. If they shine up the way a standard black boot would shine then I think they would look quite nice. Black with a navy cap or visa versa might be interesting as well.

I got to fawn over a pair of navy Tucci boots a few days ago and they were drool worthy. Then again, at $1,400 they better be showstoppers!

unless the photo isn’t doing justice to the boots, I have to agree, I don’t think I would spend a healthy tax refund on them. Also agree w/ the poster who said it would be tough to pull off the look too. I saw some this fall at a vendor booth and didn’t think much of them but then sometimes it takes awhile for a trend to kick in. I would also wonder how good the boots would look after they were worn in

The picture just isn’t quite what I was envisioning. I was going to say heck yes to navy boots, because I’ve seen some I REALLY (and I mean REALLY) liked but those are just kind of “meh” to me. A darker navy that had some shine to it would sound great

Here is another picture of the navy leather but in a totally different style of boot. I was hoping the leather would be more of a dark look like my helmet. I have heard such good things about DeNiro boots and they make so many crazy fun styles I thought I would try something a little more adventurous. Even if they end up being a little much for the rated shows I could use them for schooling and local shows.

If I order them I’ll post pics!

I like the idea of Navy once they are shined up! I’ve been waiting YEARS to be able to afford a pair of brown boots, but not yet. I’ve always thought Navy would be cool too.

I once saw a pair of dark, dark, dark green boots that I thought would be killer fun for XC. No idea where you would find green boot polish though!

I have a navy Samshield helmet that I adore…not navy boots, but I too like the idea of a little navy accent work on boots. I’m not good enough to rock the entire navy look, but accents I could do!

To each their own… I just don’t care for the look of leather boots unless they’re back or natural brown tone. Now, I think CORDOVAN boots would look SMASHING with the OP’s navy ensemble… but I just don’t dig the navy leather. Cordovan would look swoon-worthy with the navy, IMHO, and not as matchy matchy as navy boots. It looks NQR to me. But if it makes the OP happy-- go for it.

While I love navy blue, that is a very hefty amount to spend on what may end up as a pair of schooling boots. Far better to put it in your IRA or in your retirement account. By the time you retire, that bonus will have grown nicely and the boots will just be a memory.
