NBC coverage

Especially this paragraph, this delayed and packaged presentation drives me nuts… just show the goddamed sports LIVE!

And although Rio is only an hour ahead of American East Coast time, the most eagerly-anticipated events, including gymnastics, are being shown on delay, forcing many viewers to stay up until midnight.

Anyone that has ever had the oppurtunity to watch the OG coverage by the likes of the BBC knows what I’m talking about and what we’re missing.

I am so thankful for cable and satellite.

Say what you want about the televised broadcast. But, I’m thoroughly enjoying watching what I can live via my IPad and then watching it in its entirety at night when I get home on my computer.

I am however missing the live scoring showing up on the screen.

If the commentator says one more thing about Simone Biles’ parents not being her REAL parents I am going to go ballistic. She was adopted for crying out loud, she calls her parents mom and dad, and that is freaking real enough for me.

What I love are the people on who keep complaining that NBC is spoiling the surprise by posting results, photos, and video on Instagram (@nbcolympics) before the tape-delayed prime-time telecast. Hello! Pick your century. If you want to wait until it’s available on TV then don’t look at your Instagram.

What I wish they would do is instead of playing repeats of men’s soccer they would show other events that are live. They seem to be dedicating a lot of air time for soccer and basketball, though I will say this time they do seem to be showing many more events, even if for short periods of time. They did great with the eventing but then decided to broadcast dressage later rather than live. Not sure if they will show the jumping live or as a recording.

Unfortunately, it’s more than just Instagram. You need to stay away from your 'puter completely. It’s on FB, all the media outlets (not just NBC). I’ve seen more than one result on CNN…

I’m glad I’ve got CBC and can watch live all day long! I got to sit in bliss for 3 hours yesterday afternoon and watch women’s gymnastics live in its entirety and see all the competitors, and then in the evening watch the amazing swimming of Penny and Simone… A proud moment for Canada and the USA:)

Live Stream is the ONLY way to go. I have been thrilled with the coverage of Eventing and Dressage, and an added benefit is the English commentators. They are worth it, even without the video portion.

Please instruct me how to get the live stream, because I hate the cut up version NBC is giving out.

Yes they seem to be covering more sports, but it is half as**d coverage.

I just wish they realized there are other Olympic sports that are not swimming, gymnastics or track. Maybe we could see some of the other recognized sports in prime time?

But these are the sports that pay the bills…

Those idiotic comments by John Miller of NBC in your link made my blood boil. He wants firing like YESTERDAY. What an antiquated, sexist pig.

I wonder how many people are viewing each of the individual sports on the NBC livestream. Certainly NBC would/should be keeping up with the numbers. I sure would be if I ran NBC! Overall, if it weren’t for the livestream, anyone in the USA would think there were no Equestrian events in this Olympics. I checked the NBC Olympics Facebook page, and no mention of the USA bronze medal today. Hopefully there is better equestrian coverage in other countries. The NBC emphasis on just a few sports is very disappointing.

I just don’t get why NBC doesn’t offer up all the events on demand with the option of paying for commericial free coverage or free streaming with ads. They have absolutely no other programming that brings in any other revenue. They’ve been dead last in the ratings for over a decade and are existing on fumes at this point. They should have the Olympics splattered everywhere playing up any angle they can to attract viewers. It’s not wonder they are in last place with the way they do things.

I’ve had no problems with NBC’s coverage.

I love the live stream, which is available “on demand” after the fact. I watched the gymnastics after the fact. In the mean time, I’ve live streamed the equestrian events and haven’t had any commercials.

The olympic coverage was ALWAYS on delay for primetime. For everyone who complains that it wasn’t covered live on TV, there are people who complain that they’re working at 3 pm (which is when the gymnastics meet was) and would miss it. Also, people complain when the coverage is America-centric…and then people complain when the focus isn’t on Americans. NBC will never win! Pre-internet, people were really screwed! Now, there are tons of choices.

Their website is pretty good (in my direct experience). I love that one can choose to stream one of 15-20 events, and that one can go back and watch other events in full later on.

At least NBC didn’t haul out Johnny Weir and Tara Lipinski to provide commentary on the equestrian events.

(I actually like Johnny - he’s funny as hell. But it makes my stomach do sad things when NBC puts him and Tara front and center during Triple Crown coverage).

T.V. is money and they will play the events that are the most popular. I think the NBC website/live streaming and the fact that you can watch replays of prior live streams is fantastic.

nbcolympics.com doesn’t have a search feature that works. I just came from there, trying to find out what day and time the women’s discus will be and I couldn’t. The info wasn’t there. I searched “discus” and got links to the Olympic Trials, a short video about discus, and a couple of other equally useless videos, and absolutely nothing about the men’s finals (already done) or the women’s qualifying or finals. I had to Google “discus” and then I got to a site (not an NBC site) that gave me the schedule. Of course when I went back to the NBC site to look at the full schedule, there was nothing there at all about discus on the day and time.

It’s bad enough that NBC has no app for my laptop, so that, despite their claims that anyone can watch every event in live feed, I can’t; they can’t even post the schedule for ALL the events.

I have to agree the coverage is really disappointing. I don’t have cable so all I get to watch is what’s on NBC and that’s swimming, gymnastics, and track. I get that these are the popular sports, but I feel like in the past NBC has shown bits of the other sports if say someone sets a world record. As a result I haven’t watched much of the Olympics. I wish I could watch the live stream; I would be happy to pay a fee so I could watch online.
