Need a Better Cat Litter

I have been using Arm & Hammer Slide litters for years. I haven’t found any other litters that clump as well as this one does and also scoop as easily. This litter almost never cements itself to the scoop or the litterbox.

But it is so heavy!!! Before I discovered Slide, I used to use lightweight litters. They clump well and I can actually pick up the container to fill the litterbox. But they cemented themselves to the scoop and the litterbox. :frowning:

Do any of you know of any slide-type litters that don’t cement themselves to the scoop and box and are also lightweight?

Has Tidy Cats gotten any better? It went downhill as soon as Purina took it over years ago, but I usually like most Purina products.

I use the walnut litter. What’s it called now? Ah, Naturally Fresh.

It’s light because it’s not clay. It doesn’t cement to the box (at least afaik, we scoop daily so not sure what happens if you don’t.) It doesn’t smell, cats seem to like it, and it biodegrades. It clumps well but nothing clumps as hard as clay.

We used to use the red bag (multicat variety) but several years ago they started adding perfume to it. Ick. So we switched to the green bag instead.

It is sometimes a little dusty.

World’s Best unscented is the only litter I’ll use. It’s lightweight, clumps well and doesn’t stick

Thank you. It sounds good. I don’t use scented litters. I scoop daily.

Thank you. I’ve heard of it but haven’t tried it. I’ll check it out.

I get it on Amazon subscribe and save, it’s a little bit cheaper than Chewy

I know a lot of people who like Worlds Best but gawd I cannot STAND the smell. Dunno if it’s one of those things like how some people think cilantro is soapy tasting, or what. But it smells like vomit to me

I love the World’s Best but for some reason my current two cats won’t use it. :woman_shrugging:

I used it exclusively for years with my last cat. The smell isn’t atrocious to me, but I agree it doesn’t smell great.

It’s corn.

Yes… I understand?

It smells foul. :woman_shrugging:

Not to me, so maybe it is a cilantro type thing.

Is it just a corn smell, or more like a silage corn smell?

I’m not sure I’ve ever whiffed silage, but the litter smells like vomit to me. It does not smell sweet like fresh corn, or like the fields when they’re harvesting corn.

The walnut litter smells like fresh dirt.

I like the smell of fresh dirt.

I too, use Slide. And now that I am older I buy the smallest boxes, even though the huge, heavier boxes are a better deal. I also order from either Amazon or Chewy to cut out the number of times I have to lift the boxes.

The problem with Chewy is that they will load up a single huge shipping box if you order several containers at one time… I prefer Amazon, and I just order one 19 pound container at a time. Thats the beauty of Prime - I can stock up slowly, but have smaller boxes.

I posted this because I have found nothing lighter and better than Slide. And I have had several indoor cats at a time continuously for the past 40 years, and done my shopping around.

Thank you. That is how I feel. I often order the 14-lb. box from Walmart, but presumably this last time I ordered a heavier box by mistake.
I wish A&H would switch to a plastic spout with a cap like the ones on milk and juice cartons because their tabs are almost impossible for me to open.
Do you have any tricks? :grinning:
I do respect their not using plastic, though.

I tried Catalyst a few months ago; they give you a serious discount for your first shipment. I love it so far. It is lightweight but lasts unbelievably. I thought “no way” when I opened the first shipment and saw what they said is a month worth per cat. But it really is. It is also 100% biodegradable, unlike clay. Good for odor; it itself smells woody, but you don’t smell the feline contributions. Cats approve.

Thank you. I have never heard of Catalyst (I love the name). I will check it out.

Yes, I do have a trick. After I get the box of litter next to the litter box, I use a box cutter and slice through one long side and the two short sides, creating a lid. I don’t bother with that spout thing, since that means lifting the box. Then when I need litter, I just flip up the top up and use a small feed scoop to shovel what fresh litter I need into the litter box.

Cool. I must try that. I used a scoop with the huge Tidy Cats buckets back before I switched to Slide. I will try my box cutter; my scissors don’t cut it!
