New Article on Cesar Parra Controversy

While that certainly is the case for Steffen and Sabine, we also have Casey Perry Glass, Ali Brock, Laura Graves from 2016 games, Adrienne Lyle and Nick Wagman from 2020 Tokyo games and the alternates: Olivia Lagoy Weltz and Ben Ebeling. All of whom are American born.

2022 World Cup riders: Alice Tarjan and Anna Buffini

And the American born coaches/chef d’equips: Robert Dover, Debbie McDonald, George Williams.

Before that: Courtney King-Dye, Michael Barisone (alternate), Lisa Wilcox, Sue Blinks, Christine Traurig.
Go back even farther: Migi Serrel, Hilda Gurney, Carol Level, Michael Poulin, Elizabeth Lewis.

More American born riders on teams than those born outside the US.

I think that was more CYA than concern.

Purportedly, yes. You never actually see his face, but it looks like him, walks like him, whips a horse just like him.

Thanks!

Thank you, Kemosabe. I’m not close enough to the upper echelons of the sport to have been able to refute the claim, but I felt fairly certain that it was bogus.

His name seems to be Nicholas Torres and he works for Dr. Parra.

At least one of those riders bought their Olympic medal horse from AH (and went on to buy more horses from him as well).

Okay, but what is your point?

Many amateurs are exposed to training techniques along the way and when riding outside of those lessons apply them in a less effective manner. I’ve witnessed many times over the years trainers sensitively using whips behind horses to train piaffe. CP has ridden with top trainers that most likely did the same for him. Sadly as an untalented trainer, he applied these tools in the most harsh and inhumane manner.

William was not the first horse he flipped. I know someone whose horse was flipped during a clinic before William. The horse was not accustomed to cranked side reins. I did not personally witness it but at that time it was the talk of the barn. The owner was also on the hook for replacing a broken tree in a borrowed saddle.

Perhaps students and employees are afraid of CP’s “connections” outside the horse industry? I certain have heard this was the case is the horse killing cases of the jumper world and likely with good reason

I am glad Cesar is being sanctioned for cruelty finally, but I am so sad it has taken this long. Thank you Adam and Sven for exposing him. I don’t know them, but I have watched dozens of sale videos with Sven riding beautifully.

I am not sure how anyone can claim ignorance to Cesar’s training methods. His horses have tried to tell on him by having public meltdowns, in places like the World Cup and at Dressage at Devon.

I wonder why Sven didn’t know of Parras rep before taking the job.

According to a soucre, the “man” in the pink shirt works for Cesar, we believe his name is Nickolas Torres from Columbia. This is Cesar’s NJ facility.

Nicolas Torres has been with CP a long time.

Because people stay quiet, its spoken about in back rooms or people are complicit as was shared on FB on Adam’s post near the bottom…

“I met your lovely husband at a horse show at the Florida Horse Park, as the trainer I was with was being coached by Cesar. She had worked for him in the past and even though she has intimate knowledge of the things going on, still has the highest regard for the man, and to be honest, trains in a similar manner. I have since left her but I would believe she would defend him. Thank you for exposing this…”

And so it goes…

And which rider would that be?
