New farm, let's build some stuff

The gate stays open, they can come and go as they please. I only want one water trough to tend to!

That fan is a nice touch! I really like that idea. It looks really neat and everything is so easy to find.

It uses the same outlet as the heater eventually will, so it’s on the timer switch so I can’t forget to shut it off! I love not having to dig stuff out of a grooming box or tote!

Thank you! It’s hard to remember all the work that’s gone into it - it’s super fun to enjoy it now!

I have never seen a one man…errrr woman fence crew, much less a one man/woman barn crew. It kind of blows my mind that one person was able to do all this. Signed, Susan (who can’t hammer straight).

It’s more stubborness than skill, and I may have permanently damaged my hands. I wouldn’t want to do it all over again, that’s for sure.

I put up the doorway hanging strips and shayney thinks they’re the devil. I have them all tied back but two strips on the sides and have been luring her in multiple times. She’s kinda…slow. Niko has it worked out though.

Built a mounting block out of spare lumber and put some more mats by the hay area. Horses got out on grass for 3 hours today.

Just stop already! You’re exhausting me. If I ever win a lottery will you come up to the great white north to help me plan at least?

Right? She gets more done in a day than I have gotten done in nearly 3 years.

I fixed my broken stall door yesterday thanks to this thread. :joy:

Here’s the mounting block. It’s nothing special but I had a bunch of scrap treated wood and am trying to get the barn clean enough to put my trailer and truck back in it.

Grab some spare shingles to put on the steps. You won’t slip!

We’ve got some in the crawlspace, that’s a great idea!

Looks great! Throw a couple of sturdy drawer pull type handles on the sides too, saves trouble if you need to move it later

I put shade curtains on the doorway to the stall for the spooky problem child. Inside was food, hay and a fan. Outside was heat and flies. She learned real quick, no training involved. Maybe figured it out in 5 minutes. Then I hung pool noodles for desensitization. Never batted an eye at them. She will do anything to get away from the bugs.

That’s what it is for Shayney. Inside is shade, fans, and snacks. Outside is blazing sun.

I can’t do the good hay, or Niko will jump in and take over lol.

I checked the cameras last night and she had found her way inside. She has taken to RUNNING out of the doors, which is annoying as hell. I’m going to leave them as they are for a week and then start dropping more strips. She’s never been the sharpest tool in the shed, and I had an idea this was going to be an issue based on the fact that the pool noodle dangly thing was her least favorite obstacle at the thing I did in March.

She needs a big-ol’-dose of “grow up” and she’s getting it.

I have some in the barn somewhere - I was going to use them on the big barn doors but I don’t have the clearance. This is a great purpose for them! Great idea!
