New farm two pregnant barn kitties. New pics 7/20

OMG!!! $635 for each kitty?? Are there any vets in the area that partner with a rescue organization? Sometimes vets will do this and offer lower cost spay and neuter.

(Sorry for hijack, OP!)

So here is the rub: The veterinarian that was handling my case left the practice. Reading between the lines, it sounds like it was not an amicable parting. Originally, the vet was aware I was working with ACO and that it was expected that at the very least, the kittens be covered by the TNR/low cost voucher umbrella that a few local orgs have.

However, looking at the email I just got from my vet clinic, it sounds like they only have one (!) vet left in the practice, the former vet left “no notes about Stray Cat or her kittens”, and they are booked until late July. In their email they suggested I contact the state SPCA. :open_mouth:

OK, so I live in a clearly-less-expensive area than you, so just Fed Ex those kittens and mama to me and I’ll get them vaxxed and neutered for about $500 total for the lot, and mail them back to you! Easy peasy!

Lol!

Oh my! It took some sleuthing to find our local group. I hope you locate one

There is an organization that does low-cost spays/neuters - about $100 - throughout central NH. I would hope there is something similar down your way, but I know it can take some looking. Good luck!

Add me to list, too!

Where do they even come up with a number like that?

There were yellow jackets in the silo this afternoon. I killed three but couldn’t find their nest. If I see more tomorrow, I might have to move the cats and kittens into another dog crate

They were yellow jackets and they were attracted to the kitten food. There’s a vent they were coming in through. We moved the mamas and kittens into a large dog crate of their own near the feral mama in the garage. Probably for the best. I want to keep a closer eye on Polly and Louisa now that they are sharing nursing duties.

Victoria has really calmed down. Our son petted her a little through the bars. She meowed nicely at Polly and Louisa when we moved them in.

We picked up kittens and Polly and Louisa when we moved them and they were great. No meanness at all. So, this afternoon, we’re going to get a base weight on their eight kittens and try to figure out how many boys and girls so we can name them. Their new owners will probably change the names, but we have to call them something.

Victoria’s six kittens will have to wait. That’s fine. No hurry. I did squirt flea meds on her back while she was in the trap, so that should help keep her kittens healthy until we can handle them.

One more update and back to fencing projects for me…

Louisa seems to be doing most of the nursing. We’re getting base weights to see how much we might need to supplement with KMR.

Another reason we moved them was because that metal silo got really hot yesterday, despite open windows. Between the heat and the wasps going after their food, we wanted them to be safer and more comfy.

Also, and this is evil, Mr MLO has a soft spot for kittens and this puts them right in his line of sight when goes into the garage.

Very smart of you!

This will get them more socialization.

you are a beautiful evil genius!! Yep, you are experiencing what I did last year. The felines Gods have taken your measure and judged you worthy of protecting multiple mamas and babies. Its a high honor.

@avjudge was right - I had the 2 feral moms in 2 big dog crates as my makeshift maternity ward last year(sorry for the posting delay - I’ve been insanely busy at work). If you ever have questions or need moral support I am here for ya!

I’d foster again in a heartbeat, unfortunately the other humans I live with were less than impressed by having 10 (at one point 11) kitties in our urban garage. something about “The garage is for cars not cats” or other such nonsense. It is a good bit of work, but socializing the babies is THE BEST.

Tell them they are spelling cat wrong. It is a T not an R.

Polly needs to man up and nurse some kittens too! Hopefully Louisa has enough milk for all but you’ll know by weighing them. Maybe they’ll take turns nursing.

I’m glad Victoria has calmed down some

I know several have offered as well, but I’d be happy to send a dribble for food or whatever. It’s a shame the prior owner left so many in need, but all these cats/kittens lucked out with you guys for sure!
