New farm two pregnant barn kitties. New pics 7/20

That’s interesting. Our Leia, of whom I posted a picture before, had 2 extra toes on each front foot and 1 extra toe on each back foot.

ETA: She was a barn kitten from our barn in AZ. So, no east coast roots for her I would think. But you never know.

This was my thought too!

That kitten is going to find a home very quickly!

The last few days I’ve noticed Victoria’s kittens are noisy. They sound hungry. I haven’t yet heard them satisfied. She remains protective and isn’t finishing the food I give her, so it isn’t that. The only way to intervene is to separate. She’s too protective and feral. Six kittens is a lot. Should I crate her and raise the kittens? They seem to be almost trying to eat her dry food. I think they need help.

How old are they now? Can you make them a milk replacer/kitten food mash to supplement them?

Yes. I have KMR on hand.

Here’s the plan. Later today, we’ll put the cat crate in Victoria’s crate with wet food and shut the door when she goes in. Then, we’ll weigh the babies and check them over. If they seem undernourished, we’ll separate. Otherwise, we’ll clean her crate really well and put her back in to carry on. We have the weights of three kittens from last week to compare. They really shouldn’t sound so hungry. The other kittens are much quieter (except when they see us, lol). If we separate, we’ll move a small crate into the house to feed and care for the kittens and the large crate into the workshop for Victoria to dry up and get ready to be spayed.

I am just wondering if they are old enough to nourish themselves if you provide additional resources in their crate.
But bottle raising them will make them super friendly at adoption time so that is not a bad thing. Well, except for your soon to be lack of sleep.

Sounds like an excellent plan. You are a great kitten tender, even if you were drafted and didn’t sign up to enter the service.

Funny story about bottle kittens. I belonged to a cat chat group once, and one of the members found two little kittens, definitely abandoned, not doing well. She asked for advice and got the usual notes about KMR, stimulating them, etc. Best wishes for these poor little things. She settled down to bottle feeding, and they perked up, grew, and thrived. She started offering cat food at appropriate stages, etc. All doing well.

SIX MONTHS LATER, she happened to ask the group, as she posted a picture of her healthy and frisky half-grown cats, “By the way, when can I stop bottle feeding them?” She was new to kittens, and in all of the advice, nobody had ever said stop giving the bottle when they were eating other food well enough. Her only previous experience was with human kittens, who still are on milk at six months.

After everybody had a good laugh and the facts of cat ages were explained to her, she said, “But they still took the bottle and even asked for it!” I’ll bet they did. Feline con artists!

We got Victoria in a crate without too much trouble. Her kittens are actually doing well. They were a bit louder and hungry, but we got all of them to eat a little wet food and put them back in with Victoria. She wasn’t as angry as we thought she would be. There definite personalities with her kittens. I think they all act a bit like royalty. Anyway, she can keep them and continue to teach and feed them better than we can. Especially if they continue to nibble wet kitten food. They really took to it, so they probably need the boost.

Looks like a couple of them are very interested in the “real food”.
They’re so cute, but Albert takes the cake! I’m in love with the fuzz on top of his head!:smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

 Very dignified names. No Fluffy or Marmalade for you.

I suppose the timing for royal names is good right now. I did avoid more recent names, like Andrew, lol.

More kitten pictures from this morning. The personalities are becoming more obvious. Han is a little reactive and hyper. Luke loves his food. Miggy is still silly. Chloe and Leia are fearless and playful. Caleb is sweet and quieter. Lewis is another sweet one, but he loves to wrestle with the other boys. Zoe runs with the crowd. And Louisa is a lap cat.

My favorite age for kittens when they first learn to run and play with each other and their little tails look like Charlie Brown’s Christmas tree.

they are adorable.

I watch your little cat videos and pics over and over when I am at work to relieve the stress. Sometimes I think it’s the only way I get thru my day.
