New farm two pregnant barn kitties. New pics 7/20

I like that you can only get pictures of toes while they are sleeping. Or mauling your hand.
They sure are cute - I love kitten toes.

The ones with the little spots on their noses make me want to keeping wiping them because it makes their little nosies look dirty.

What will you do with your time when they are all gone? You know you will miss them…

We actually do have to wipe them down with a cleaning cloth once a day. Some of them really mash their noses into their food (looking at you, Beatrice).

We’re actually going to separate the five that getting picked up on Saturday to help wean them off their playmates. We sometimes take groups into a smaller pen to let them get more attention (the three oldest garner the most attention because they are so advanced). I think separating them ahead of time will help them adjust to not having so many brothers and sisters. It might also help them sleep. It’s amazing how often one hyper kitten can stomp all over the nest of sleeping kittens and wake them up.

For those wondering, the following kittens have new homes to go to Saturday:
Leia (calico female with extra toes)
Chloe (diluted tortie)
Albert (brown tabby and white tuxedo)
Alfred (longer haired black and white tuxedo)
Lewis (gray mackeral tabby)

Zoe (dilute tortie) also has a home to go to next Monday.

***Still in need of homes:
Luke (orange and white with extra toes)
Han (orange tabby with extra toes)
Caleb (brown field tabby with white tuxedo)
Miggy (brown field tabby)
Alice (tortie with orange spot on her head)
Leopold (brown field tabby with white tuxedo)
Beatrice (brown field tabby with white tuxedo)
Arthur (mackeral tabby with gray field)

If you’ll pack Han in a FedEx box for overnight delivery to TN, he’ll fit in beautifully here. I’ll even pay the shipping fees!

They do it for tropical fish and baby chicks after all!:rofl::rofl:

:joy:

I wish I could! I’m going to get pictures of the eight unclaimed kittens and start trying to find them safe homes through pet stores.

I love all their names!

I’m sure you’ve done this already, but what about flyers (with your super-cute pictures) on the bulletin boards at vet offices, feed stores and TSCs within about 45 minutes of you?

More unsolicited advice—I’ve been told to always ask a small fee (like $20) instead of giving the kittens away because apparently people don’t value things they get for free.

We need a Kitten Karavan. They can drop one off in TN on their way to take two to NC!

OK…so now I have stumbled down the rabbit hole of shipping cats. Found an entire page on uShip.com dedicated to finding the right cat shipper. I guess rates average $1.47 per mile for less than 1000 miles. I was looking at reviews there and someone paid $385 to ship a cat from Chicago, IL to Birmingham, AL.

Too rich for my blood, but somehow I still thought it was pretty reasonable?

Probably someone buying a specific breed of cat so that was a small price to pay after paying for the fancy breed of cat.

Or a family cat for a move was my other thought…

@moonlitoaksranch I know it won’t seem that way to you, but reading you only () have 8 kittens left to place makes it seem like Time really flew!
And …

Alice made my Wanna List.
Along with Bigfoot Han.
:pray:Find them homes before I pack my carrier & hold a Bake Sale to fund a roadtrip!

Or that organization of volunteer pilots that fly rescue animals from high kill shelters to their approved adopters in other states. Maybe we’ve got a case here to present to them!

That’s our plan! And we’re charging $25.

Wow! That’s a lot. I’d be happy to hand them over to someone reliable for a kitty train, but I need notice for health certificate. Also, I think they would need to be 12-16 weeks old because they can’t cross state lines without their rabies shot. At least, that’s what I could find online.

Does anyone know anything different about kittens crossing state lines? We drove our animals up here from Florida and the only at station was leaving Florida.

Also, one kitten home asked about FIV. I cannot test them all. I can’t even afford to test the mothers. How would I know if the kittens had it? This appears to be a rather isolated group of barn kitties that have been reproducing with predators and winter being the only population control methods. Is FIV common in rural areas?

FIV info

Infected mother cats transfer FIV antibodies to nursing kittens, so kittens born to infected mothers may receive positive test results for several months after birth. However, few of these kittens actually are or will become infected. To clarify their infection status, kittens younger than six months of age that test positive for FIV should be retested at 60-day intervals until they are at least six months old. If their antibody test remains positive after six months old, they almost certainly have a true infection.

If the momma cats are FIV negative, the kittens will be negative.

The local vet should be able to give you a rough idea if FIV (and/or if FELV) is relatively common in the area. If there’s a local TNR group, they may also have some info on the prevalence in the area cats.

They might technically need a health certificate, but realistically, unless someone is foolish enough to Stop and Declare at state lines, there’s no way on earth they would be caught, much less questioned. They would have to be nabbed right at the state line, otherwise LE couldn’t prove the kitten came from outside the state.

I have driven my kitties willy-nilly across more state lines than I ever want to count, and I’m pretty sure that even if the car was pulled over, catching smuggled kittens going to new homes is about the lowest priority ever for the cop/deputy/trooper. Now if the driver is smuggling guns and drugs alongside the kittens, all bets are off!

Thank you. Not common here, apparently. Whew!

Yeah, I suppose it would strange watching someone getting taken down for smuggling a kitten! Meanwhile, cars with illegal guns and meth go whipping on by…

“Dispatch, we’re in purr-suit”
“Hey, lady! Drop that tabby!”
“Mew?”

So, if a COTHer shows up for a kitten, I’ll ask you no questions and you tell me no lies…
