Just weighed a quart of it and it was 1.5lbs
Mine did the same. 1-3 bags in the cart and it’s free shipping. 4 bags? $129.99 for shipping. I’m not ordering, but was just playing with it to see. I’m also on the East Coast.
Just got shipping confirmation on my order!
Mine seem to really like it so far. I’m still just mixing it into their usual ration, but no one is offended by its presence. None of them are picky, but my slowest eater seems to be finishing a bit faster (not dangerously fast, just not annoyingly slow anymore. lol)
Me too! Ordered at 11, shipping label printed at 3 (I don’t count it actually shipping until it shows being picked up). And I did the one bag, two bag, three bag - and after 3 the shipping is $129. Weirdness and probably an issue with the website.
Ordered 2 bags x 2. Fingers crossed its worth the hassle.
I just tried the ship to store option for my local Tractor supply and for two bags it wanted to add $14.98 as a ship to store fee, but the next line item gives a discount for that same amount
the Why this can occur is a corporate budgetary issue so that they can assign the cost to proper account in tracking how the money was distributed
my guess is there multiple break points of divisions within the company each with their own budget, the managers of those divisions performance bonuses is calculated in how well they actually run their divisions, the break points between divisions are often seamless and not apparent sometimes even to those with the corporation.
I can not track mine because I chose the ship to store option instead of having it shipped to my house.
I have to sit and wait for the text that it has arrived at the store.
I did not trust the delivery to not be left sitting somewhere it would get ruined.
I have a covered front porch but most deliveries are left by the first door they encounter which leaves them unprotected.
I got home the other day, after a full day of heavy rain, and there sat my soaking wet Chewy delivery.
Mine is scheduled for Saturday by FedEx. We will be home. We do have an overhang by the garage, and I can leave my porch door open so they can put it inside if I want. I remember pre-pandemic that the delivery services would put the packages in plastic bags, but now they don’t.
I did have one experience where the delivery person let my indoor/outdoor (heated) garage cat in onto the screened porch a few years ago in the bad weather. Guess I can’t complain about that LOL!
That makes a bit more sense to me, thank you!
Yes, 1.5lb makes a lot more sense!
@trubandloki, when this happens to me w Chewy, I call and complain if the product is damaged. I was told they have terrible problems w FedEx. They are very nice about replacing the product.
The stuff inside the box just needed to dry out. Nothing was the type of product that would truly be damaged. Just all the boxes were ruined.
So no reason for Chewy to replace things.
It is not really their fault that the delivery driver was a jerk.
please don’t crucify me. honest questions… because I am curious on how to better my own feeding program.
What is the point of this feed? To not feed hay? To not feed grain? For IR horses? For horses with heaves?
Real question: Why would I, in my own situation, switch to this feed? How would a person like me find this product beneficial? I looked at the Web page and it seemed unclear to me except it allowed for a grainless feeding program. But again, why?
For those interested: I have TBs in various stages of work; free choice (home-made) grass/alfalfa hay. Use straight oats w/ a ration balancer + minerals for extra calories and nutrients. Two only get <1 lb oats/day. Add alfalfa pellets and Gro-n-Win competitor for extra calories when needed (summer/competition season)
@millerra, I don’t know how it would help you, but I can tell you why I am interested in it.
I own some easy keepers. They get free choice grass hay and a vit/min supplement. One appears to have issues with soy products so I switched to a small amount of alfalfa pellets to carry their supplements. This is a horse that is not fussy, and they eat the alfalfa pellets but they are not really fond of them. I am hoping this pellet might be more popular with them. It is in a similar price range.
I am even more excited now that I see the size of the pellet.
Has anyone tried the new standlee version? I like it doesn’t have flax & supposedly some gut support stuff. Was able to order free ship to home over $50.
You “beet” me to it by 2 min! Lol
ETA: There is also this blend by Standlee. I like the fat/ fiber/ protein on this one most I think. https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/standlee-smart-carb-performance-pellets-horse-feed-40-lb-bag
2nd try was a success! I mixed a small amount of the “Forage Only” in with picky mare’s soaked beet pulp, and she ate it all, both last night and this morning. She also licked her bowl clean, which she does not often do, she tends to leave one or two bites remaining. Excited to have hopefully found something she finds a bit more appetizing than straight beet pulp, and will plan to slowly transition her over to just the Forage Only.
For reference, right now she gets 1.5 lbs beet pulp pellets twice a day (soaked). I’m hoping since the Forage Only is more dense that I can now feed a smaller volume while still providing the same amount by weight.
As far as I know this has always been how TSC handles their shipping. For years I have been able to order from their in-store self help station and get up to 3 bags of grain shipped to me for free, but anything over 3 per order charges crazy shipping. An employee told me about this when they were not regularly keeping the grain I feed in stock, so it has saved my butt a few times.
The Standlee product certainly is intriguing! But at nearly $10 more for a 10lb smaller bag, I probably won’t be trying it any time soon.
