Gorgeous mare! Why in the world would someone name her Oprah?? That seriously sounds like a name my husband would give her. I’m not kidding.

Are you looking for a short, one syllable name, or doesn’t that matter?
She sounds like a sweetheart. The possibilities are endless depending on your taste.
In keeping with her color: Blackberry, Night Sky (Sky for short) Dark Star, Black Rose (Rosie) Shadow, Black Satin, Black Pepper. . . or just a cute girlie name like Sally or Sadie or Tracy. And there are so many talented black actresses and models whose names you could borrow as someone else suggested.

It was a guy. A weird guy. He literally said he named her that because she was ‘big and black’ (or going to be big). I’m not making this up. It embarrasses me to type it.

Doesn’t matter. At this point I’d find a show name for her just fine to put on a coggins. I’m cool with single word/multi-syllable show names, etc.

Just need something that I can put on that damn coggins and her vet records that isn’t profoundly embarrassing.

I say go with Opal for two reasons:

  1. It’s GORGEOUS.
  2. It’s extremely close to her original name. I don’t think you’ll have a problem getting her to accept it.

Good luck!

If she’s an older horse, does she recognize her name when called or spoken to?
If so, you may want to re-name her something that rhymes with her old name. If it’s similar she will start learning it if it’s similar.
Like maybe…
Rojah
Rosa
Sopha (eeks)
Trofah

She’s mostly called “O” and “Opie/OP”.

I guess I don’t need to change her barn name as such but I just CAN’T put that on her official stuff. Know what I mean? I prefer Sofa to oprah.

I had a great-aunt named Hortensia, pronounced “Ortensia,” as the “h” is always silent in Spanish.

Maybe Anna or Hannah?

My name is Anna.

Whatever you decide on, she is beautiful. My vote is Ophelia… what can I say. An English major.

Stellah - Stella for star, and the added h just to make it a bit different

Stella reminds me of the dog from Modern Family. And I love that show.

The only name in my repertoire that I like for a horse someday is “Bazinga” (Love big bang theory). But I feel like she needs a little more elegance… but she’s a powerhouse who loves to move and go and work.

I didn’t look at the pics since I am stuck on Orca,
Ezelle, maybe?

Diamond. Because she is strong and came through adversity and is still shining.

Well, for the Coggins, there’s always Okra!

Pie
Pie Oh Pie
(Pie oh Pie, you’re the Apple of my eye. Sweet, sweet Pie). Sing her the part inside the parentheses.

Tomorrow the old owner rides her. I will go hang and throw names at her and hopefully something sticks.

It’s so strange how you can have a bunch of GREAT show names in your head and then you get a horse and nothing works.

Black Lily
Black Orchid
Dusk
Odelle (did someone say that already?)
Odalisque

I like Dusk. That’s pretty.

My criteria for names are:

Not cliche/overdone.
Pronouncable.

I like Trofah.
or Truffaut
or Truffle.

(My Darling Truffle. I love how you snuffle…
My Dearest Truffie. I love how you… how you… how you’re fluffy)
