New horse--hate her name. HELP!

Check in with the horse on whether she’s OK with a different sounding name. Most are

Our

Rusty became Macrae (for Gordon MacRae colored hair)
Candy became Harry
Kramer became Ned
Max became Max - he wouldn’t answer to anything else
Sergio became Alex (was also named Moon something and some other name. Came immediately the first time we called for Alex in the field

You have some nice names to choose from

O…Canada

O.P. (Oversized/Outrageous) Pony

Tovah (Wife of Ernest Borgnine, I believe, fell in love with the name when I first heard it.)

Odalie?

I just finished The Other Typist and loved the name of the anti-heroine. (Keira Knightley’s making a movie out of it, I’m told.)

Topaz.
Cora

As a take off on Opie, how about Aunt Bea?
She worked hard 'most all the time and held it all together…
When I saw you calling her Opie as a barn name, I totally thought “Mayberry”!

In Greek mythology, Calliope was the mother of Orpheus. Calliope also has that “Opie” sound she is used to. Calliope herself is famous as a muse and very powerful.

From the Divine Comedy…

“Here rise to life again, dead poetry!
Let it, O holy Muses, for I am yours,
And here Calliope, strike a higher key,
Accompanying my song with that sweet air which made the wretched
Magpies feel a blow that turned all hope of pardon to despair.”

New personal dream: Obtain gorgeous mare, name her “Strike a Higher Key” as a show name, Calliope barn name. Callie for short.

Optimistic Outlook
Opposites Attract
Opera Gloves

Opulent

Barn name remains Opie.
Ooo - I love Opulent! You can call her Lena around the barn.

When I’m trying to think of names, I check the dictionary and foreign dictionaries for something with the sound and rhythm I want, and I seem to have thing for one word names.

Inky Dinky became Inclination - barn name Inky
Red Wrecker became Razzaro - barn name Rico
Travis became Trevelyan - barn name Travis
Annie Mactagish I didn’t change - don’t know why, but I liked it.
Majestic Wind became Cisco
Nag became Cissy

Ok. I’d explain it to you, but I’m all out of puppets and crayons.

Change it to HARPO. ;)
Oh, you made me spew.

Oooo I like Cora. I wonder if my mare would be interested in a name change. She mostly goes by “No, stop it”

O Valencia!

No to Opie. Sounds like opium. I like Odile (the black swan in Swan Lake) or Olivier (boy’s name, but there’s a female character with that name who kicks butt. She’s beautiful, but also an army general and a master swordswoman)

Whoever suggested Sophia, I like that.

My dad’s grandmother (I think) was named Olive Jane. Went by Ollie. I like how old-fashioned it sounds.

Black Pearl. Or just Pearl.

Cliche means “a phrase or opinion which is overused and worn out.” I’m afraid it’s one of those names that could overshadow the horse’s performance negatively. People might be saying, “Didn’t they know what that word means?”

Odette or Odile ( oh - deal)

the swans of swan lake, Odile is the "black " swan

Orana

When I was a kid my ponies name was Orana Karunda which means in Australian Aboriginal language Moon of the Beautiful Black Lady.
