New horse--hate her name. HELP!

I have to say that renaming a horse is quite the chore, but I don’t agree too much with keeping it similar sounding. My Pinto Yearling came with the name Buttercup and she came when called that. She went from Buttercup to Khione (Key Own Knee) It was pretty easy for her to get accustomed to it…when ever I spoke to her I called her by her newly given name… It was always “Oh Khione, here is your supper…Oh Khione, look how soft you are…” whenever I said anything to her I included her new name…when I groomed her I sang her name to her “Oh Khione… khione, khione, your soft as velvet” in about a week she knew her name and I could begin calling her nicknames. She is KhiKhi… or Khi and she response to them.

One thing i will say…pick some names and then go scream them out into the pasture three times… pick the one that flows and she pricks her ears at.

I like Dusk too. One word names seem so simple and elegant.

How about “Confession” for a show name Or “True Confessions” playing off the Oprah talk show thing, and Connie for a barn name.

Or “Talk to me” for a show name, and Mimi for a barn name.

Whoever suggested Opera Gloves…I really like that one.

Opera?

Aura? That sounds similar to Oprah. Another one that is somewhat close is Hurrah.

Change it to whatever you want. Horses are pretty smart and will be able to figure out their new name. I have changed horse’s and dog’s names and they always coped much better than I expected. " Call me anything you want, just don’t call me late to dinner!"…

What about “Aster?” (Latin for “star.”)

Lyla.

It’s origin means ‘night’ (aka dark/black) in Arabic.

I also changed my horses’ names to something completely different, doesn’t faze them one bit.

Agree! Opera Gloves are very elegant!

Also like Aura/ Aurora (Rory).

Always wanted to name a black mare India (india ink is deep black).

Astra, I think.

Black Opal. Oh Olivia — I like that one. Oh My (call her Omie?) Overture. Oh Shoot. Olive Oyl — that was Popeye’s girlfriend.

I think someone already suggested Black Pearl. She looks like a Pearl to me. You’re going to have fun with her.

Mostly joking with this suggestion, but…

That’s My Spot (you know… for the spot on her head and The Big Bang Theory):D:winkgrin::lol:

Oh I thought the idea of changing it to something similar was just a little hint to people who had seen her show before, not for the mare. I have one mare that definitely knows her name (the TB, aka “The Brains of the Operation”), but none of the others seem to care what you call them.

I almost never use their “real” names when I call them… “Come in, you fatties!” is a common call for them to come in from the pasture in the morning. Closely followed by “Get in here now, you idiots! Don’t make me come out there!”
