New Picture of Gem Twist's clone
I have not kept up with the science of cloning but didn’t Dolly the sheep die young? Do they know why? I skimmed through the middle of this so pls excuse me if it was explained and I missed it
It was.

Review posts #28 and 35.

…out of curiosity, how would you know that?
I work there.

I see.

Question, have they confirmed whether or not they plan to add “Twist” as a surname, or will he just be shown as “Gemini”?

Varsity Hero, I am in awe.:smiley:

Do YOU know anything about the egg that they used? Was it an egg from just any mare, or was there a selection process used, i.e did they try and keep the egg in the family, so to speak?

Oh I never know those things. I don’t know the show names of half the horses on the property, I don’t think they really get one until their of show age. I was pulling for Gem Twin!

I’m pretty sure I read somewhere it was Gemini Twist. Was it not in that article? Or maybe it was in the Horse of Delval one. I found a pic of Gem and me from '05 and they look soooooo much alike despite gem was grey in the pic and double geminis size!lol

Varsity hero: I know what you mean about not knowing the names (I use to work there). As long as you can understand “Go grab that bay colt out of the field” or “put the bridle on the chestnut filly and meet me in the indoor” names arent important. hahaha

And don’t get on “her” until I get back! haha

I could see him ending up as Gemini Twist, personally I think adding “Twist” would be good for offspring purposes and it would be more recognizable to passersby as it’s announced. I’m sure there’s atleast one Gemini out there already too.

HAHA I miss all his fun sayings!! Is Allie still there? Kate’s baby, not Allie R… She was probably my favorite baby to break. And give Bella a kiss for me!!

Allie C is still there. And Bella is my favorite! I will most certainly give her a kiss!

ImmortalSynn–Thank you so much for posting the magnificent video of Gem Twist. I have been riding Short Twist, his (full?) brother, for about two years now, and it really meant a lot to me to see Gem in action for the first time. Shorty looks exactly–and I mean exactly-- like Gem, and was also quite the jumper, if not, as I understand it, anything like at Gem’s level. Shorty decided he hated the ring and had developed all kinds of evil habits, so Frank Chapot pretty much gave him to my boyfriend to see if he could straighten him out enough to be a foxhunter. Well, Shorty just loved foxhunting and in fact said boyfriend still whips off of him occasionally–he’s 29 now ( Shorty, boyfriend is significantly older:lol:) and still full of piss and vinegar!

Here’s to great genes, however arrived at, and great training!

Welcome.

I have a couple others of him. Two of them are up now; that one, and the one of him under his greatest rival’s rider: John Whitaker, which can be seen at the link below. Just look at how he clears those double oxers at 17seconds into the film (in the little inset box)!

…I’ll be putting them up eventually, but lately trying to devote my (scarce) video-creating free time to getting some up of other horses that fit in my theme of Famous 1990s showhorses.

Amazing. Thanks again.

I’ve never gotten to really jump Shorty, he sustained a major tendon injury several years ago and it’s amazing he didn’t have to be put down, much less that he’s recovered enough to go the way he does. No jumping for him anymore–although he doesn’t seem to have gotten the memo and takes any log/stream/ditch as an opportunity for unauthorized play:lol:–so the videos are as close as I’m going to get!

Congratulations to Frank Chapot for his truly forward thinking to clone Gem Twist and offer the world of show jumping the gift of that Bonne Nuit line again!!! Fantastic, and I truly hope that it works out better than anyone could hope.

Back 40 or so years ago, I wanted to breed my mare to Catch on Fire, from the Bonne Nuit line, sadly the mare didn’t catch. Imagine now I may have the opportunity to realize that dream. Thank you Frank for having the desire to go forward without fear of failure! Something you did, with admirable courage, in jumpoffs yourself! Thanks for saving this line.

Laura, your Mom and Dad are the greatest!

My rescued Connemara-TB mare is a Catch on Fire granddaughter - she gets her grey gene from him. Sadly she is 18 years old so I probably won’t have the opportunity to breed her to Gemini :frowning:

Get to cloning her!

Thanks for posting this video. It just gives me goosebumps to see Gem Twist jump. Saw him in person in Wellington when (one of the times!) he won the invitational with Lesley Burr some years back-he was awe inspiring!!!
