New Picture of Gem Twist's clone

What a lovely athletic looking chap.

I too would love to see a comparative confo shot of Gem at this age…

I dunno Synn, I heard about this cloning business before. I think Donald Sutherland wrote a book on it. They take some kinda pod and put it in the horse’s stall…
You sure it’s not an egg containing Lady Gaga?
BTW, is Gemini registered ? I didn’t think that JC, etc. accepted clones.
Or is there a registry that does ?

If he’s not registered, how will offspring get papers ?
Gemini is registered with the AES.

So if you could have your choice of mares to put to Gemini with an eye to breeding a Grand Prix jumper, what mare would you select and why??

I’m building my fantasy stable and I need to fill it with horses, lol!

A very powerful mare, by Galoubet, Cumano or Darco.
Sapphire is a good candidate

Oh man, I would LOVE to see a Galoubet mare x Gem Twist (Gemini)!

I have a Galoubet mare and was debating to try it. The debate was not because of him but because of her age. I have a Galoubet filly, but she is too young still.

There is a breeder in the CS that is thinking about a breeding to a Darco mare.

I figure at DD’s age, If I breed her GP horse right now the timing should be perfect, lol!

I want to say the Chapots may have breed something similar. I thought they had a few out of Mary’s mare Anaconda by Good Twist or Good News Joe (can’t remember). Not exactly the same but similar lines. I could be TOTALLY wrong on that…

Since Frank has been breeding for years…I bet he has a very good idea who will cross well.

Only concern I have is the current stance on the FEI on clones or offspring of clones. Not really worth having a GP horse if you can’t compete them in FEI classes. I wonder if that stance will change in the future…

He certainly is a looker…but of course, so was Gem.

Is that stance codified and official?
Frank told Practical Horseman that he didn’t just have Gem cloned to pass on the genes (duh, on that one) but that he also wanted an Olympic horse as a gift to his daughter. Just wondering why he’d so publicly say something like that if there was no chance (even under current holdings) that it could be done, y’know?

Thanks for posting that and the video wow never actually heard of this horse before. Good on them for cloning the horse will be interesting to see what he produces.

Gem Twist himself, or Gemini (the clone)?

…if the former, then yeah, definitely wanna be familiar with him: he vies with Milton/Big Ben as the greatest name, ever, in the sport of showjumping.

Actually neither but if I was interesting in breeding jumpers I would be interested in his clone.

Gosh, I can’t imagine anyone not having heard of Gem Twist! LOL But maybe that’s like thinking everyone (my age) knows what an 8-track is

This is probably THE most well-known picture of him. God what a great horse!

So how’s the FEI going to know who’s his daddy?

Unless they change the rules, someone is just going to either forge a set of papers for a cloned horse, or say they don’t know it’s lineage if it turns out to be a superstar jumper. All that has to happen is that it goes undercover for a year and comes out under a no name trainer with a no name rider then of course it will deserve a top trainer and rider and next thing you know Mclain Ward is riding it.

Either that, or Frank has an “in” and knows by the time his horse is ready to breed or ready to compete, they’ll loosen it up.

Anyone remember the story or Rugged Lark, the Quarter Horse who wasn’t???

Once they start winning everything, they’ll have to let them in.

I’d like to know the story of Rugged Lark. Was it proven that he wasn’t QH?

 I know not really into jumpers but throughtly enjoyed watching him jump and I never watch a whole online video as I get bored.

I’m pretty sure the QH stallion that was shown and was proven to not acctually be a QH appendix was TB stallion Bett Ohio!
