New Rambo and Rhino Blankets

Might not be the most beautiful repair, but it’s on the butt so who cares? Well done!

I had one horse who always had to have the bungee tail cords. On Horseware fly sheets especially (that are very long) because he would hurt himself catching a leg in a nylon one. He loved to roll and lay down to sleep a lot. I find the coated bungees to be very forgiving.

EXCEPT last year when my horse’s neighbor decided to keep trying to eat my horse’s stable blankets and Insulators through the bars. I found a few of the tail cords in neighbor’s stall. Most of the time they were intact or I could pop the end back on. I think he destroyed one. Somehow did not actually destroy the blankets. I did have to change to the little tie on nylon cords for a little bit because those weren’t as fun to eat? Horse moved away, and so I went back to the bungees this winter.

Any chance your horse is getting help in destroying his tail straps?

PayPal closed the case, in my favor. Already received notification from Jeffers as well. This saga is over!!!

So annoying. I might have to give the new 0 g to my slightly larger horse, who’s kind of between 78” and 81”. He already has a perfectly fine 100 g though. At this point I don’t know if I want to buy new Horseware blankets, but I’m also not excited about choosing something else about all these years.

I highly doubt it because the likely culprit still has all his teeth. This is not a horse who would tolerate that nonsense. How funny/annoying that your blanket destruction was happening through the stall bars!

I got the new navy color. I didn’t see any cranberry options in any of the sizes or weights I looked at.

I eyed the Optimo flysheet pretty hard but I’ll wait on that I think

I was wrong. What I bought and liked is the Original. Lighter in weight, with that silky kind of outer covering versus the Supreme 1680 is heavy and like plastic. I’m curious to hear your review.

I looked at some of the Originals too. I wanted the higher denier outer and the triple Velcro hood attachment so went with the Supreme. I just got the shipping notification so we shall see!

@endlessclimb there are “big changes” coming to the Ultimate line in 2025 so they have very limited availability in sizes and weights right now…
One of my replacements was a Deluxe 100g this fall after they promised me in the spring of '24 they’d be getting a new shipment of Ultimates in the fall. And the Deluxe has ripped and they didn’t want to give me another replacement since they still don’t have a 100g Ultimate in the size I need. SP did agree to send me one more Deluxe 100g and hopefully it lasts until they roll out whatever they are doing with the Ultimates.

I’m hoping it’s just new colors/new design but either way, they still owe me several years each of sheets, 100g, mid, and heavy blankets.

Yes, I just incurred this on the phone with them. They did have the size in the blanket I needed, but we are doing some fancy-footwork on the hood.

But, as usual, they were prompt in the solution and didn’t even require I send the failed blankets and hood back. They will serve as dry-weather backups, or I can try to waterproof them myself.

Now that they don’t require you send back the blankets, I have a dilemma on what to do with absolutely trashed (ripped, etc.) two 100g and a heavy weight that aren’t worth spending on repairs and no one else seems to need 87s, not even nonprofits in my area.

I still have some Rambo blankets, some in almost unused condition, but after my young horse destroyed a few, he doesn’t get to wear them until he’s much older. I still keep my eyes out for good deals on Rambo because I can’t resist, but I usually regret letting my horse wear a newer one.

My blanket lady will take the unrepairable blankets and repurpose anything salvageable for parts for repairs to other blankets - patches over rips, things like that. Maybe you have one in your area to contact?

Yeah, I’d just keep whatever salvageable hardware and material for repairs, or give them to someone that repairs blankets.

So the Duo Force from Jeffers…I think mine has settled/unfolded/stretched/something. It fits better now that my horse has worn it a few times. It’s been through rain and mud with no issues. I had to snug up the belly straps a bit from where they originally were and it seems like the length got better. He certainly hasn’t lost any weight. It’s a size 75.

Said horse is fine in a 78" Amigo Bravo and mostly ok in 75" blankets with a little bit of bum showing. He’s an “in betweener.”

I’m actually glad to see these run a bit large, because, drum roll…I took a chance and ordered one from Jeffers. They had 72s left just calling my name. Yes, even after everything on this thread I couldn’t resist trying. If it comes, great. If not, I will deal with it.
I also have last years Duo from Horseware that’s a 72 so I’m going to line them up to see how the sizing compares.

I noticed my order went through Shoppay and I often don’t receive shipping notifications from there so maybe that’s why some had the item just randomly show up with no notice.

I find the Duo Force from Jeffers to align with other Rambo sizing, or running small. The Irish made 75" I have is still short on my gelding who has an extensive wardrobe of 75" Rambo stuff. He’s in the silvery blue Duo that Horseware had on sale, and that fits like all his other 75" stuff.

Apparently the Irish stuff is hand made, and there is some “natural variation” because of that, so I may have just gotten a blanket that varied (quite) small.

Definitely don’t think it’s running large, at least not compared to other Rambo. Rambo in general does often run larger than other brands, though.

If natural variation = noticeably different, they need a better QC department!

Yeah, it’s not running large. It’s very close to my 75" Rambo 0g and 100g that were made in Cambodia (my Duo was made in Ireland). There are a few differences, but not enough to hugely impact fit. So I guess it really does vary!

This blanket is on a (too) fat PRE, and the drop is still ok.

Well if the Duo Force is smaller than the regular Duo, my younger guy can wear it.
My older one is short backed but has plumped out on pasture since being retired so I am taking a chance one of these will fit him since I’ve sized up for him in recent years. He used to be a 72 . We’ll see.

One of my mares sometimes gets a bit too big for her blankets. If you have Rambos, you can swap out the straps for longer straps and make the same blanket fit. Ask me how I know.

I do not disagree! To be fair, every other Rambo 75" I have from Ireland fits like it should so this one is just weird?

If a warranty claim didn’t go through Jeffers, I’d consider pursuing one. But…uh…I do not want to go back to that well. :joy:

Thankfully my old lady mare is a little smaller and it fits her fine!

Read through some of the replies, so I’m not sure if OP has received the answer they want. I have three Rambo fly sheets, one Rambo turnout, and four Amigo turnout including one with fill. All of my rugs (turnout sheets and my one rug with fill) have held up amazingly considering that my horse has the ability to take off her blankets, and she gets beat up pretty bad. My Rambo fly sheet from this last season was torn up really fast as opposed to a few seasons ago.
I like Horseware Ireland enough that I buy their products, but I try to get Rambo on sale now. My current Rambo turnout has held up really well, but I’m not a fan of their fly sheets, so I bought a Kensington fly sheet, which held up after my Rambo fly sheet was torn to shreds. My Amigo sheets are amazing and have held up through thick and thin.
