Same, it is an Amigo Bravo 1200D. I won’t buy the super cheap ones. I have a bunch of those and have never had this happen before. I do usually replace the nylon tail cord with coated and just hadn’t done it yet. Maybe the snap would have broken instead but I dunno!
I was just asking about and looking at another boarders SmartPak Ultimate blanket. I don’t know how they fit, but I’ve heard they are really good about addressing any issues and honoring the warranty. They often go on sale, so I’m kind of intrigued.
Is this one of the sheets that Horseloverz had on sale earlier this year?
I’ve got my old lady in that right now but it’s not been rained on yet. Guess I’ll keep a close eye tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up.
(Have you noticed that there are rings for leg straps?? I just saw that yesterday and was surprised. Don’t see it mentioned on any of the Optimo copy.)
It is - $168 deal. I have Nikwax RugProof and will see if that can’t get us squared away. I did see rings but didn’t think much of it. I hate leg straps just in that I don’t use them on my Rambos and then used a Premier Equine the other day and forgot and always thankful when my guy just looks at me and stands there all tangled up in leg straps.
Oh I’m 100% with you on the leg straps! I was just so surprised to see the rings on the Optimo.
Did you register with horseware when you got it? They should replace it with this issue if so. Reach out!
Buy upholstery needles (the curved ones are easiest for this IMO) and waxed thread and you can sew that back on yourself. I had to sew the front velcro back on my Rhino Wug sheet a couple of times. Also just had to make this same tail cord attachment repair with a Rambo Airmax cooler that I use occasionally as a stable sheet.
Also, pro tip is to remove the old thread and try to go back through the same holes more or less. Makes it easier to get through the nylon.
I have two Premier Equine blankets and I don’t use the leg straps on the one that has straps that clip at both ends, just the tail strap. But the second one’s leg straps don’t clip at both ends, so I just try to remember to do them up properly!
I hadn’t yet. Good reminder. Ugh.
Tell me more please. What do you mean? I was debating taking off the leg straps because I forget every.single.time. And then breathe deeply as he’s all tangled up and know in that moment that things could get tricky. Oh and he’s a mustang. Quiet but still. Ran wild until 6 as a stallion.
Knock on wood, the Jeffers Duo seems to be sufficiently waterproof…
My girl, who I affectionately dub “the walrus” due to her bulbous size and tendency to stand out in freezing cold wet conditions, seemed dry underneath everywhere but the normal area at the neck opening (didn’t have the hood on).
Do you not check to see that the tail cord isn’t tangled in his tail?
Not to freak you out but this is what happened to the horse who went through multiple fences - the tail strap was tangled in her tail, they didn’t check and went to slide it off her haunches, and she bolted. This was a very well known equestrian with a very large internet following - not an inexperienced nobody.
Welp. Jeffers refunded $100 for the missing liner in the incomplete 75" set. Which is fine. Refunding the entire blanket would have gone a lot further to making me happy, given that they’re fire saleing the remaining stock, and I still have to go stand in line at the post office in the xmas rush (again) to return this 81" they sent me (which, nope, they won’t let me send to another customer) but whatever. A hundred bucks is at least better than 15% off a future order, which was their first offer, and just pretty insulting.
I was surprised to see that the 75" blanket I have (the incomplete set) was actually made in Ireland. Not just “designed in Ireland”-- actually manufactured in Ireland. The 78" set is manufactured in Cambodia. The Optimo from the Horseloverz sale earlier this year is manufactured in China.
Unfortunately the made in Ireland blanket also fits a lot tighter. This horse has been in a 75" Rambo for damned near ten years. He wears an original with leg arches, a wug, or a supreme in that size and they all fit the same. This one looks short on him. I’m hoping it’ll loosen up once it’s lost it’s wrinkles from being in the bag. Or I might try swapping to the Optimo since my old lady mare is a little smaller. Just sigh.
Did anyone else receive “manufactured in Ireland” old stock? It’s shown on the back of the tag on the inside of the blanket at the chest. The velcro branding is also a little different, and the tail flap is a lot shorter.
Cambodia on the left, Ireland on the right:
Same here. Cambodia says “Horseware” and has the type centered. Ireland has larger font, and is right justified.
And just a reminder to go register your blankets. You’ve got 90 days from purchase. You’ll need the item number, which is on the bag or on the tag that was attached to the front snap, the serial number of the blanket itself, which is sewn into the blanket itself at the chest on a white tag, and a copy of your receipt. I wasn’t able to do it from my phone; had to use the computer.
Ah damn, mine is made in Ireland. I bought a 75 because my horse is between 75 and 78, and his other Rambo 75’s just fit. So I’m not sure this will fit. I need to try it on him today. I’ve been procrastinating
I did buy a new Rambo 100g in 78" and it looks stupid on him. Quite long and the neck hole is huge.
I’m super curious to hear your feedback on how it looks on your guy!
The actual fit is just not something I ever thought I’d have to worry about with Rambo. It’s always been so consistent.
This is a great illustration of what I hate about the new Cambodia version - the super long tail flap that makes my horses poop all over themselves (and the flap). I actually prefer the short version, and if I could have asked Jeffers to sort through and find only Ireland-made blankets (haha, fat chance with what you all have been reporting), I’d have ordered one for each of mine.
My wording may not have be super clear.
So, PE blanket #1 (a blanket that they don’t seem to carry anymore, I think it was called an Artemis) had both a tail strap and two leg straps. The leg straps were completely detachable because they clipped at both ends. I have used the tail strap and no leg straps on this blanket since I bought it 3 or 4 years ago, and never had an issue with it shifting.
PE blanket #2 (acquired a year ago) is a Buster turnout with a high neck. It has leg straps and a tail strap. The leg straps, though, clip at one end, but are (I think) sewn on at the other end. I have not removed the leg straps, and use both the leg straps and the tail strap.
I like both of the PE blankets a lot, and I think they’re very good value for money, I’d say better value for money than the Rambos and Rhinos I’ve owned.
I also have a Rambo (original cut) sheet and a Smartpak Ultimate sheet. The Rambo has held up pretty well but, frankly, given its cost, it should hold up. The Smartpak I got as a replacement for another Smartpak ultimate sheet whose chest strap broke. Smartpak was great about honoring the warranty.
I’ve never had a tail cord tangled. There’s the big back end strap thing and the other smaller loop thing that I also don’t use BUT you give me thought that I should just cut that off. My mustang is PSSM2 and blanketed during crap weather and he does like to rub on fence posts etc. It could get caught somewhere.
I’ve always thought it to be consistent too. I could buy any Rambo 75" for my previous horse and they’d always fit. I don’t know that I’ll be able to stick with Rambo with this one if his 75" 100g is too short and the 78" is too…weird.
Rhino is too short and sometimes tight on him. The Amigo Bravo is ok-ish. I think I’ll have to sell of my Wugs too. They’re too tight on his neck. I think he’d fit an Optimo well, but the one I tried was too big, so maybe if I sized down.
