Thanks Wire! I’ll update if I find out anything new and if anyone hears anything, I’d appreciate your posting. Wishing you many Wire to Wires!
I will see what I can find out.
He was a nice horse once upon a time and even though I’m in the business I hate seeing horses like him hitting the bottom of the barrel.
Grumpy is on the vets list as unsound and is not listed in the stewards minutes as having been euthanized. Hopefully he’s getting the care he needs for whatever ails him.
If the jockey rides for that trainer regularly he is going to know if he is still alive at least. I don’t think they update those stats that quickly, at least as far as I know.
Thanks so much, Wire & Calamber!
Well wishes to dear GSM!
You can watch all his races at Cal racing. com. If you are serious call the race office at Golden Gate and leave a message for the trainer to call you. As a trainer myself, when someone inquires about one of my horses, I always follow up. Don’t let too much time go by.
Thanks so very much, Fly!
When you say “serious” you mean . . . what, exactly ? I am not in position to have a horse, though, as I’m dealing with huge & permanent injuries of my own. Perhaps some of wonderful COTHers might want to inquire about this sweetie, though?
What a great site, btw. I had to register but it is free. If you go to race replays, then there is another tab to type in the horse’s name and you get a nice list of all their races to watch. Superb.
Seems GSM got hurt after the race and it did not “look” too terrible (crossing fingers). The jockey was wonderful in how he handled it.
Pulling up after a race is a very tricky time, exhausted horses, a stumble and that’s it. Jockeys that feel it right away and jump off have saved many a horse.
When I say “serious” , I do mean prepared to take the horse. I didn’t watch his last race. But there are times they get vanned off for a bad bled or maybe a grabbed quarter. Lets hope it isn’t too serious. I am looking to private purchase a horse that ran in the same race as Grumpy’s last start. If I get a chance, not very likely, I will ask my contact person if he knows anything. I can only ask if it seems appropriate, but I will try.
I am all about rehoming. Any horse I own personally I keep till I find the right after life for him. I buy them back if the first home doesn’t work. So I am hoping this guy has a soft landing.
Fly, I truly wish I could but nowhere in this thread did I say I was looking to see if I could get GSM. I truly wish I could and if I didn’t have a very, very broken body (permanent injuries, too), I’d be all over it. I think I started this thread to see if anyone knows him, etc., and maybe in some way, it would help him out. You all have been most helpful and I truly appreciate it. And we know a little about his crazy (yet endearing) name now, too.

Absolutely perfect. Big thanks!

Bless you, just . . . bless you. May all the good karma come back to you.
Yippee!! I just got notice in my Virtual Stable that he had a workout. I’m so glad that he was able to recover (or so it is appearing). Much credit to the jockey who was able to pull him up quickly after his misstep in his last race.

What a fantastic update!
Could someone tell me how to create the ‘virtual stable’ mentioned in this post? I’d love to be able to follow some favorites. Thanks in advance
Go to www.equibase.com and from the toolbar at the top, click on “Horsemen”. You will find Virtual Stable as one of the choices in the drop down menu. It’s easy to get started from there.
EXCELLENT!!!
Oh, so fantastic!! Bless you, Youbetter!! And, many thanks for the update! Give him a big kiss from all his fans here at COTH!
To those that are interested he is 9 yrs old and sound. He is the sweetest most “chill” horse I’ve known. He trail rides, western and english. Rides bareback in just a halter. He is now learning showmanship. He has been so wonderful with my timid riding son and given him confidence. He must be naturally a good guy because from what I’ve heard they aren’t big teachers of manners at the race track, and he is beyond polite and careful.
Can anyone tell me what race he was hurt in I can not find it
