North American breeders of sport ponies?

I am in the market for my next prospect. Willing to buy anything from weanling to 3-4yo, in the GRP, Weser-Ems, connemara, or even welsh areas. Temperament+.

Goal is to be my adult amateur dressage horse for 4th level+. Large pony size or slightly over.

Can anyone recommend a breeder who targets this type of breeding and size? I have found a few, but they mostly seem to stand a stallion and not necessarily offer offspring - or they are breeding a smaller size.

Cannot afford an imported project but budget is healthy for one that is on the ground here already.

We breed large Sport Ponies for the hunter/jumper and dressage markets. We predominantly breed Welsh & Welsh Cobs, but also get in ponies of other breeds as well. We have a fancy Section D Welsh Cob in right now. Priced right and looks like he will be a fabulous dressage competitor. Super quiet and absolutely no spook. Well handled and well loved. Excellent ground manners and the perfect temperament for an amateur or junior rider. He is also eligible for USDF Awards through the Welsh Pony & Cob Society of America.

We also have a couple of fabulous large sport pony foals arriving in a month if you are looking for something younger. Both by ISR/Oldenburg approved Sport Pony stallion Daventry’s Power Play. One mare is a Welsh/TB large pony who has competed successfully in hunters and dressage and the second is a lovely 2nd level dressage Dutch Warmblood/TB mare.

We also have two Welsh Cob foals arriving this year as well. One will be a purebred Section D Welsh Cob arriving in a month. 50% chance of the foal being palomino, buckskin or smoky black. The second is out if ISR/Oldenburg approved Welsh Cob stallion Goldhills Brandysnap and out of a Dutch Warmblood mare by Olympic Ferro.

I bought my lovely Welsh Cob filly from exvet. Princess Fancy Pants is very smart and so far easy to work with. Her daddy has a lovely temperament. You can see pictures and video of her in my blog in my signature line. This is my first pony and I’m a petite-ish adult.

We just started a Riding Pony / Sport Pony breeding program, but I’m afraid the first foal crop of non-purebred ponies doesn’t arrive until next year! Of people I know that breed crossbred/sport ponies, Diane Jackson in Canada (Arnaby Farm), Sara McCormick in SC (Orchard Hill Ponies), and I’m sure there are tons others that I’m missing!!! There is a new booming market for them, I’m sure there are a bunch of breeders will be chiming in with people they know.

Thank you Daventry - That is why I commented my first foal crop of non-purebreds (who will be mediums and larges) will not arrive until next year, and made suggestions of other breeders who may have what she is looking for.

Is this Melissa Rose Mulchahey (in California)? I have seen some very, very nice Dressage pony stallions that she stands at stud, such as Golden State - Westfalen Pony Stallion and Golden West - Westfalen Pony Stallion. She would be a great contact to add to this list, maybe she could help?

Hi -someone nicely pointed me to this thread - much appreciated.

I do stand 3 GRP stallions. 2 of them are here in the USA - Golden State NRW and Petit Marc Aurel. One is still in Germany, Golden West. I do not have any mares or foals however I do help the mare owners who have bred to my stallions sell their foals. All of the 2014 ones are sold but there are several coming (or already born) for 2015 that will be for sale. You can PM me if you want me to connect you to those foal owners.

I do breed ponies for dressage! We are located in MA. I currently have a fabulous Hanovarian/sport pony yearling filly( SummerSolstice), By Schroeder, out of TLF Crown Jewel, will possibly go a bit over, super fancy mover! And will have a Golden State foal this summer, filly option for sale. Mare (Macarena) is a Hanovarian/welsh by Ridley. Will be a large.
Almost forgot to add, I have a 4 yr old, just started under saddle, TLF Bejeweled, by Benno’s Dream, out of TLF Crown Jewel. Is a large. Super nice mover!

A sport horse breeder friend and I breed one or two sport pony foals a year mainly geared to the adult market. Currently, we have two half Welsh two-year-olds that would be good candidates or we will be breeding our German Riding Pony mare by Benno’s Dream again this spring (her first foal by Bodyguard sold last year before weaning to a student of Michael Barisone’s).

At 12.3 hands (as advertised) B’s Lunar Eclipse is a section C not a section D.

Thank you Pocket Pony for the mention; however, I do not have anything left for sale. I’m keeping my 2014 colt. We do not plan to breed our stallion this year since my daughter is working on earning her bronze and silver which she should have her bronze out of the way as of the next show. I do plan to breed him next year to a couple of outside mares and one of my own.
