November Sales

California Chrome doesn’t seem to be well received, though he only had 3 in this book. There are more in the later sessions.

An Honor Code, a Lord Nelson, and a Cupid, each seemed nicer than their hammer prices.

Loved the More Than Ready filly.

Another nice Lord Nelson.

It makes a big difference when you can see them from all angles. Plus, the xrays and scope also have a huge influence on prices.

Is it common for weanlings to have a bad scope?

I’ve always loved this mare.
John went to 3.2M to buy out the partnership & take TCB back home. She’s currently in foal to Justify.
He also bought her weanling (by Tapit).

I remember her racing days. She was great.

No, but some do. However, young horses change so much as they mature that it’s not unusual for an iffy scope as a weanling to be fine when the following year as a yearling.

I didn’t think that many would. I’m surprised that they scope weanlings.

It seemed that people payed more for the weaners that looked like yearlings, and of course anything by Into Mischief.

Everything buyers can figure out how to test, they do.

Regarding Belvoir Bay:

I didn’t watch the live feed of the Breeder’s Cup (can’t get the cable package), just the replays. Was this background history talked about in the TV coverage? (I may be very late to the party here.)

I am looking for video of her in the sales ring, wondering what her legs look like now–scarring still visible?

Interesting that smoke inhalation (which she must have suffered) seems to have had no long term effects.

I didn’t notice any scarring but I’m watching online and I wasn’t looking for scarring. There are ways to minimize the appearance of scars.

You might find her on Fasig Tipton’s youtube videos, but she isn’t there yet.

That was a lovely Mastery colt out of Shriek. You must be proud of her @LaurieB .

…and they like him too. He was RNA at 220K.

I had no idea that Verrazano was sold to interests in Brazil. I liked him.
Oh well, I guess Brazil needs good horses too.

She is with terrific people and they do a wonderful job of picking stallions for her.

I knew she sold and you were happy with the people who bought her.

Wasn’t she a homebred of yours though? I thought you bred her. Perhaps I was thinking of a different mare.

Yes, we bred Shriek and also most of the rest of her immediate family. We have had fillies from three generations of that family for the last 17 years.

Well done. Was she the one that had the stunning Arch foal that you sold at Keeneland?

No, that was a mare from a different family. We currently have her latest filly in early pre-training.

I like the Mastery weanlings.

About 10 years or so ago, I went to a fall Ocala breeders sale that had broodmares.

Do they not include broodmares any more?
